Has anyone successfully compiled this in 2024? Seems to use a lot of libraries that are now deprecated. Wonder if it might be better to compile using an older version of Ubuntu in a VM.

Questions about the favicon
by

Firstly, I remember the favicon disappeared for a while a few weeks ago but now it's back. Has anyone else experienced this?

Secondly, what is it's copyright status? I am thinking of creating my own Bitcoin-related site(s) and the one used here seems to be the best one I could find. I tried generating my own using Bitcoin images that I found on the web but they don't look very nice at 16x16 resolution. Sad

It seems that RSUnit has been delisted from Coinmarketcap. The price has collapsed too.

Why does the IRS want bitcoins?
by

Why does the IRS want bitcoins and what is it that they plan to do with all of these bitcoins?

I can understand taxing someone who converts BTC to USD. But why should BTC that remains BTC also be taxed?

Huh

I'm getting errors here. First it keeps loading while displaying the message "Loading the world's most popular Bitcoin gambling website..." followed by the message, "Oh no! An error occurred! You may have a bad connection or our servers are down. You should try again later."

I was able to try PD3 out a couple of hours ago just after it first launched and it was pretty awesome and it is still the site's first day after all so I understand there might still be issues with the site and server, so I'm not really complaining.

I still can't get on the site. Is it working or not working for everyone else?

It's working fine here. I'm using Firefox 30 on Windows XP.

Just saw my account has a balance of 0.001 BTC. Was 0 BTC before. Haven't deposited anything yet and only played the faucet twice and don't remember winning anything. Is it possible that someone sent me a tip via the chat? I think I posted a couple messages there.

Re: Please tell me if my computer will be ok for mining or not

I dont think any computer is fit to mine alone, unless you are using it to install the mining pool software etc.

This is definitely true nowadays - at least for SHA-256 coins such as Bitcoin, but it wasn't case before SHA-256 ASICs arrived in 2013. Someone even mined hundreds of bitcoins on an old Pentium 4 back in the early days of Bitcoin. And even up until 2013, people were using high-end gaming rigs with expensive GPUs to mine.

Re: JUST IN: Air Algerie loses contact with plane over Africa
by

on 24/07/2014, 10:28:09 UTC
More information:

Quote
New agency AFP reported that the missing aircraft was a DC-9, which can seat up to 135 passengers, chartered from a Portuguese firm.
Quote
An Algerian official said the plane is an airbus A320 carrying 110 passengers to Algiers.
Quote
Flight AH 5017 had 110 passengers and six crew on board, officials said.

It seems planes are dropping out of the sky like crazy these days. Very sad. Sad

Edit: Also there seems to be conflicting reports about whether the plane was a DC-9 or an Airbus A320. There are also reports that it was a Boeing 737-200:

Quote
Air Algerie said it lost contact with one of its aircraft nearly an hour after takeoff from Burkina Faso on Thursday bound for Algiers. The plane, a Boeing 737-200, lost contact after taking off, officials said.

Edit 2: It was an MD-83 apparently:

Quote
MADRID, July 24 (Reuters) - Spanish private airline company Swiftair on Thursday said the plane on route from Burkina Faso to Algiers it had lost contact with was a MD-83.

An Algerian official had previously said the missing Air Algerie plane was an Airbus A320. (Reporting by Julien Toyer; Editing by Tracy Rucinski)

I actually have five bank accounts. If any one of them decides to do something funny like the OP's bank, I could just spread the money around or close that account. It's a free market after all.

Strange to hear that a bank doesn't like its customers keeping too much money with them though. It's kind of like a supermarket getting mad at someone for buying too much groceries. You'd think that it would be great business for them.

I'm currently going to University to be a pharmacist.. I hope I earn more money!

I once knew a pharmacist. He made really good money if I remember right. He didn't have a permanent full-time job, but he would fill in at various pharmacies in the area once or twice a week and still seemed to live really well.

Not a bad life. Working only 1 or 2 days a week and having the rest for yourself would be pretty good. Sort of like the opposite of what normal people have to go through. I wonder why more doctors, surgeons, bankers, etc. don't do this. I know a dentist who is 62 but is still working at his own clinic for the past 30 years. He even works on Saturdays and works until 5 o'clock. With that sort of income, I would have paid off my student loans and retired in my 30's.

Bytecoin has a large group of miners. Just BCN developers doesn't spend much time to promote coin as they are more interested in improving it technically

LOL

Look at the right-hand column and rethink your fucking strategy.

What do the left and right hand columns represent? Which one is the total network hash rate?

Re: What is your favorite car?????

I wish some day I could afford it because of my BTC activity.

cars are a pretty bad investment, you could always lease or rent one instead, I wouldnt buy one with you btc cus that would defeat the purpose of investing into btc  Cheesy

New cars are a pretty bad investment because their value drops by 1/4 to 1/3 within the first year of buying it. If you want to be smart with your money, then buy a used car. Those don't tend to drop in value nearly as fast and sometimes you can even resell them for a profit.

getting that job to pay it back when your 55 years old.

Well, it's a matter of degree as well. I know people who borrowed 6 figures for an undergrad degree. That's crazy. But borrowing 50% or 100% of a year's salary? That's not that crazy.
It really depends on your degree. If you are getting a degree in finance that can pay 6 figures after 2 years then borrowing 3 years salary would not be a big deal as it can be paid back and the salary is much higher then that if you didn't have a degree.

What I think is crazy is people paying anything at all for degrees like history or English as these degrees are generally worthless.

History professor? English professor? History teacher? English teacher? Although for the latter two, you might need a teaching qualification as well.

Re: Oldest Man: 126 Yr-old Brazilian, Smokes Pack a Day

I thought Jeanne Calment was the only person to reach 120 years:

Quote from: Wikipedia
She is also the only person verified to have lived for 120 or more years. The person who came closest to this age was Sarah Knauss of the United States, reaching 119 years, 97 days on her death on 30 December 1999.

Interestingly, she was a smoker too:

Quote from: Wikipedia
Calment smoked from the age of 21 (1896) to 117 (1992), though according to an unspecified source, she smoked no more than two cigarettes per day towards the end of her life.

She died aged 122:

Quote
On 4 August 1997, at 22:45 Central European Time, Calment died, aged 122. After her death, 116-year-old Marie-Louise Meilleur became the oldest recognized living person.

Going to college actually spend more money then making more money. You can use the 5 years time in college to work as anything and most probably manager level after 5 years.
700 euro per year for 5 years = spending more than earning? Hm.
This might be in the US, but only insane people go live there.  Cheesy

700 euros per year is very cheap for a college education. It costs about 5 times that where I live.

Interestingly, North Korea was actually considered the more successful country of the two and was richer than the capitalist South until around the 1970's. I wonder what went wrong.

Don't forget 9/11. It happened in 9/11 and 911 is also the national emergency number. 9/11 is also Emergency Number Day and the 11 look like the twin towers. One of the planes was American Airlines Flight 11.

It's very easy to reach Jr. Member status. Not sure why you want to buy one.
