Yes, one time, when Bitfinex was hacked. I had actually been holding ETH on there. Not all of my crypto but a chunk that was very painful to lose. I had only been holding it on there for a week and was already thinking I should get it off now because it's so dangerous holding it on an exchange. That happened to be the week that Bitfinex was hacked and tons of their customers' BTC was stolen. They repossessed 100% of my ETH to pay back the people that lost their BTC and gave me "Bitfinex tokens" or whatever they were called. Saying that it was their goal to make them worth $1 one day and thus repay everyone but for now they could be open sold on the market. So I didn't trust that Bitfinex would stay solvent and sold them at $0.30, which resulted in a 70% total loss of funds. Better than nothing.

Bitfinex did end up coming through on their promises but I'm staying away from them forever since that incident. My own fault anyway, I knew well enough that leaving stuff on an exchange is high risk.

Ethereum is here to stay, a lot of companies rely on it by hosting their token on its blockchain. The development of Ethereum is still continuing steadily and we'll be going into PoS which is going to be a huge move for the platform.

If you can't just withdraw them, couldn't you just sell them for BTC and buy the currency somewhere else? I think it would be better than waiting on Poloniex to fix the issue.

I doubt you'd see any retribution for your problems with Poloniex legally. It would be such a hard thing to prove that they took your funds and that you didn't lose them trading or something since there's no immutable ledger of trades.

I don't know about TenX. Their apps feel very amateurly coded. They still only support using BTC as a backing currency for your card.

I have a TenX card and used it almost exclusively for an entire week while abroad, it worked fine. I just don't really what see TenX has done differently compared to any other normal BTC based VISA debit card just yet and their app quality doesn't inspire that much confidence in their development team.

Use MetaMask with EtherDelta and only put money on it temporarily for trading and that's it.

Most alt coins trade in BTC pairs. There is no direct fiat pair value, thus the price of the alt coins are directly correlated to the price movements of Bitcoin.

Put simply, the price of most alt coins is converted from BTC to USD, thus if the value of Bitcoin drops, the value of the alt coins appear to drop.

There is no hard limit but there it will not go over 100,000,000 total supply any time soon due.

It's the non-decentralised part of it that was hacked, the weak point, the DNS.

It's simple, you install the MetaMask extension in your browser of choice, be it Chrome or Firefox. Then you can create an address in MetaMask that you can use or you can import an existing one. Once you've created an address, websites can ask MetaMask to sign transactions.

It's a bit safer than using EtherDelta's built in wallet system because if the DNS was hacked and redirected to another site, it would have to request you to sign the transaction using MetaMask and you'd be able to see if it was doing something different to what the malicious EtherDelta said it was doing. I.e depositing all of your Ether into another wallet which is not the action you were taking on the website.

With that said, there are some risks with using MetaMask as well. So make sure you don't put that much money into your MetaMask address.

Honestly, if you are new to crypto and you haven't been researching cryptocurrencies, their usage, the fundamentals etc. Then I would simply take the safe bet which is a nice weighing in the top 10, top 20 at most in a few currencies that you like. Ethereum, Bitcoin, Monero, Cardano are all decent bets.

You should spend time to look into what you think is a good idea. Honestly something like what Iconomi's index fund is probably best for a beginner who hasn't gone deep into each crypto and gained a strong understanding of the entire market. You don't necessarily need to use their platform, just copy their automatically balanced cryptocurrency index fund for your portfolio.

Cardano looks like a good bet at the moment. Ether is good too but I think Cardano will have a higher return because of its lower market cap right now.

What exactly will DDoS coin do? Decentralised voting on who to DDoS by the holders? Sounds good to me.

Market capital and trading volume is much more important when determining what a low value cryptocurrency is. A cryptocurrency can easily cost $0.10 but be very expensive because it has a $100 billion market cap. It will take a lot more incoming capital to significantly move that $0.10 cryptocurrency with a $100bn market cap than it would to move a $500 cryptocurrency with a $1m market cap.

Thus your major view of what a "cheap coin" is should not be based on price but on market capital. This is why that is the default ordering on pretty much every website showing a list of cryptocurrencies.

On top of that, you need to look at the team, their goals, have they written any code, do they have any credibility etc. What makes this crypto different? Why should you invest in it? You need to look at a crypto and answer those questions to see if it is worth your time.

This is a disaster. This is why we need decentralised DNS and decentralised hosting of files. We need an entirely new decentralised web where this simply cannot happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the DNS provider was the weak link that fell prey to social engineering and handed over control to the hacker.

I sold 2400 ETH at $23 per ETH a year ago and didn't have a chance to get back in on time for the real pump.

I also mined 100 BTC a long time ago when it was easy to mine on your own GPU and the difficulty wasn't so high. I spent it all on games at the time. Those were some expensive games .
