You don't need to be root to clone the repo. Also, cloning the repo is not always a good idea, because you don't want to be on the bleeding edge.

If I'm not mistaken the command to unpack a tarball is 'tar xfvz litecoin.tar.gz'. There will be some instructions in the release.

PrimeCoin, ElaCoin, YaCoin are the ones I know about.

You're shares will only be counted after the block has been confirmed (120 confirms). That can take up to 6 hours.

There was no premine: I mined block 200 something. On the contrary, you could say that the launch was not completely fair, because the source was not released a couple of days before the actual launch.

I found 12 blocks just in the first hour. It got rapidly slower though. The amount of orphaned blocks was huge (>99%). I regret that I didn't go on for a lot longer.

I was lucky to spot the announcement within half an hour. Mined quite a lot of coins in the following hours. All I'll do now is wait until the price is high enough to sell them.

I love BitCoin because it makes daytrading very accessible.

Je zou op een centrale computer/server het programma 'stratumproxy' kunnen draaien. Als je dat in de morgen afschiet, kunnen de miners geen verbinding maken en gaan ze dus niks doen. 's Avonds start je het programma weer op, en de miners gaan weer aan de slag. Dat kan natuurlijk makkelijker geautomatiseerd worden.
