Etcetera: 4days Open Smart Contract testing on Rinkeby Ethereum testnet
by
EtceteraTeam
on 23/01/2018, 14:32:53 UTC
Hi there!

This open testing will last until Jan-26-2018 08:50:57 PM UTC+0

Please have a look at our official ANN thread if you don't know what Etcetera is yet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2691131.0

Now we need the help from our (future) community for testing our smart contract on the Rinkeby testnet.

Our local tests with the Truffle framework and the first tests on the Rinkeby testnet were successful. Now we are inviting the community to test our smart contract with us.

You can check the progress of our 'testsale' here: https://etcetera.ltd/api/

The current variables set are:
start date: Jan-21-2018 08:50:57 PM
end date: Jan-26-2018 08:50:57 PM
price: 1 ETH = 1000 ERA
there is no current bonus

What's in it for you?

If you fill in the form for our marketing bounty campaign (campaign 2 and/or 3) you can get 50 stakes for tweeting

"Requesting faucet funds into 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000 on the #Rinkeby #Ethereum test network. Etcetera Open Smart Contract testing until Jan-26-2018 08:50:57 PM @EtceteraCards #cryptocurrency #gift-cards"

where you replace your rinkeby test adress with the 0x00..0.

Please follow this small guide to help you help us Smiley please do state if it worked and especially if it didn't!

1. Make a new account on the rinkeby testnet: go to https://www.myetherwallet.com/
(if you're familiar with Mist or anything else, please use as you wish, for the purpose of this demonstration I will use MEW)

2. Set rinkeby as the testnet:

3. create new account and set new password:

4. save your keystore file (mew requires it) and for ease of acces, copy your private key into a text file (or something)

5. Log into your newly made Rinkeby Ethereum testnet account by clicking on 'Send Ether & tokens' and filling in your private key (or keystore file and password if you should choose so)

6. You get to see your current balance and your adress, copy your adress:
Here you can also add our testnet ERA token by adding this contract adress:
https://rinkeby.etherscan.io/token/0x8c4c0776c9c52f0e976a75388c38454288cb1ffa

7. Ask some Rinkeby test Ether through PM or from:
https://faucet.rinkeby.io/
You get some test ether if you tweet
'Requesting faucet funds into 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000 on the #Rinkeby #Ethereum test network.
Etcetera Open Smart Contract testing until Jan-26-2018 08:50:57 PM @EtceteraCards #cryptocurrency #gift-cards'
and replacing the 0x000...0 with your own adress
(the part starting with Etcetera is not need but gladly appreciated and rewarded if you're part of the bounty campaign!)

When you have tweeted your message, copy-paste the url here:
(you get asked how much you want, if you only plan to use it for this, please just use the lowest amount (the time is when you can claim again))

And you should retrieve your test Ethereum almost instantly.

8. send some test eth to our smart contract and verify you get the tokens: (use at least 100k gas limit please!)
 send it to address: 0x8e2184ACafa7b8549373884685a74A236D83F1d2

confirm:

And now you wait! Look here for your adress:
https://rinkeby.etherscan.io/token/0x8c4c0776c9c52f0e976a75388c38454288cb1ffa

Or with our own back-end: https://etcetera.ltd/api/

Please let us know if something doesn't go as it should. We will update after this little ICO test sale ends with the results! Thanks for having made it this far and we hope to see you at the real ICO aswell!

Kind regards!

Etcetera

Yeah, the 6% is getting me too.  Its just too much.  Token holders should get a portion, or lower it.

What markets is this targeting?  What countries?  In the US would you need a disclaimer with possible tax implications?  I can imagine a grandpa buys it for his grandson in November and gives it for Christmas.  The change in value should be taxed now.  Which is ridiculous but is what it is this year at least.

How will it reach stores?  Do you have to individually market it to each store or are there groups that handle getting gift cards into the store?

Please also bear in mind that we plan to target the people not able of purchasing cryptocurrencies through the current ways, or simply for encouraging people to gift eachother cryptocurrencies in the form of a gift card in order for them to start learning how to use/trade/send cryptocurrencies. And given the (current) market fluctuations, we are confident this fee will be insignificant considering we estimate that more than 50% of the cards won't be redeemed within a month after purchase.
We will of course constantly look into new coins to add to our platform and perhaps even add them as a separate gift cards, next to our current Bitcoin, Ethereum and Etcetera cards. Community input will be very important here.

As for taxation etc.:  we will look into every country separately, as Ief (@crynvestor) said, we can't disclose any information regarding this at this moment, but we will of course start with the countries most eager to accept and allow cryptocurrencies. Legal talks will go better in one country than the other, but we will update our community transparantly upon official (contractual and legal) agreements and we will of course follow world wide regulations closely. A quick google search will get you just as far, but here are some of the latest regulatory articles regarding cryptocurrencies we have been following:
https://www.crypto-economy.net/the-ico-regulations-worldwide/?lang=en
http://www.businessinsider.com/blockchain-cryptocurrency-regulations-us-global-2017-10?international=true&r=US&IR=T
https://www.coindesk.com/2017-in-review-how-the-world-regulated-crypto/
https://news.blackmooncrypto.com/cryptocurrency-regulation-cross-country-analysis-67452f1df80e

As for the markets we're targeting: cryptocurrencies and ICO market combined with the gift card market. I guess the market for cryptocurrencies will not have to be explained here at BitcoinTalk, but as for the gift card market we have shared this article on our social media platforms not so long ago:
http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/3352089/

Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Great project! This will certainly make it easier for the general public to get into this space.  I'm a bit worried about the 6% fee, however.  I think this may break adoption as it is much higher than other entry points into the market.  I understand the convenience and familiarity aspect of buying a "gift card" containing BTC and other currencies, but what's stopping any other big exchange from offering the same product at a lower rate?  Coinbase for instance charges 4% for credit card payments and have already established an exchange.  They would also not require an intermediate coin for the transaction.  What do you think?
Hi there!
We offer a new option to buy cryptocurrency for everyone locally, next to for example Bitcoin ATM's. Where you might think that 6% might seem steep, please have a look at the following links:
https://coinatmradar.com/blog/bitcoin-atm-fees-2016-revision/
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/5j66q2/bitcoin_atm_fees_2016_revision_average_buy/
https://coinatmradar.com/charts/#fees

Coinbase charges 4% for credit card payments but we will distribute hard-plastic gift cards in local stores world-wide, and in order for us to make this a sustaining model in the long-term, regrettably we will not be able to distribute these gift cards under a 6% fee.

Also note that we will implement a burn of 1% of these 6% fees until the total amount of available tokens has reached 20'000'000 (due to our burning).

Please let us know if there is anything else unclear!

Hey!  I really like the idea of this project.  The only two items that are keeping me back from being a day 1 investor (as opposed to post-ICO) are the token utility and the 6% fiat conversion rate.  If I purchased 1,000 tokens, I do not see what that would get me or why I need Etcetera tokens.  I was thinking about this the other night, and if 5.5% of the rate went to Etcetera and 0.5% went to token holders (staked or not), that would alleviate both of those concerns, and make the Etcetera token one of the most desirable on the market.  I do like that part of the tokens are burned and that its not a large supply.

Really looking forward to this project and hope it is smooth sailing for each of you!
Hi there and thanks for your interest in our project!
Our ERA tokens will be used during every offline transaction. This will of course increase the volume during the world wide roll out of our project. Of course it will also be tradeable on our own exchange. We can't disclose any pairs at this moment however...
Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Last updates:

- Etcetera is now listed at BitScreener: https://bitscreener.com/press-release/etcetera-plans-to-sell-cryptocurrency-in-local-stores-worldwide!
- We added a copper membership here at BitcoinTalk in order for our images to show properly well before ICO start.
- Our Bounty campaign is close to being ready for its launch on the 15th of January. This campaign will last untill the end of the ICO. (15th of March or after 27M tokens have been sold)
- Progress regarding our smart contract: for those following our twitter already had the update that we'd be testing on the rinkeby Ethereum testnet. Where it is not fully functional yet, we did manage to 'buy' some tokens from a ICO test contract. When we believe we get to a point where it's stable enough to test it publicly, we'll update it here!

Have a fine day!

Why is BitShares still 'under the radar'?
by
EtceteraTeam
on 10/01/2018, 23:07:52 UTC
Not sure how many of you actually gotten to know BitShares and all of it's aspects, but we were wondering what your thoughts about BitShares are?
Do you know it?
Have you used id?
What are your thoughts about BitShares, its past and its future?

The one thing that many people don't know about BitShares are the market pegged assets. And where this may sound difficult, it means nothing more than:
- there are BitShare nodes keeping a list of prices (and calculating the corresponding worth in BitShares) at all times
- this makes it possible to make 'new' assets on the BitShares blockchain (such as bitBTC, bitUSD, bitCNY, bitEUR, bitGOLD, ... ) that ALWAYS hold the value of that underlying asset, in BTS (BitShares native token)

This makes it possible to have a coin or token outside of the BitShares blockchain, and 'peg' a certain value to them by actually 'shorting' your BTS into that underlying asset.

For those interested into learning more about BitShares, I invite you to take a look at the following link https://steemit.com/steem/@ash/steemit-how-to-s

Are there other similar products out there? Please state them here!

What do you prefer a bounty campaign pays you in?
by
EtceteraTeam
on 06/01/2018, 01:16:10 UTC
For general info gathering. Thanks for answering!

And if you have the time, please have a look at our project!

We plan to sell cryptocurrency gift cards in any local store world-wide, just as you currently have Google Play Store cards or Itunes store cards...

Official bitcointalk thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2691131.0

Our unique selling points could be summarized by:
- Our effective selling points (our Points-of-Sale) will be the first to sell gift cards to which cryptocurrency will be send, upon payment at the register!
- Our offline buyers of gift cards can choose any top-currency (bitcoin and ethereum at first, more later) or our own ERA-token to buy in any local store, with any payment the store accepts
- The combination of our future API, exchange en mobile wallet will be the entry point for millions of new crypto-currency buyers and holders!
- Because we will constantly follow and choose what top-currencies to add (or in the future perhaps delete) from our platform, we will also profit from the fact that we're providing and holding these top-currencies ourselves.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you should have any questions do not hesitate to contact us!
