I hope to see the 106-124 slot over by maybe early next month or even this month ……maybe up to the $140k speculated price in October

Eager to see how the price goes in October  Cool

But based on your opinion, do you think the price will reach $140k in October…?

you fit store your coin in a Hot wallet which is connected to the internet but this storage method dey risky because hackers fit hack your wallet, storing your coins in a cold storage is much safer because e get enhanced security against all online threat because it is not connected to the internet.
Do not advice anyone that wants to hold their coins to use a hot wallet for it at all, it should be hold on a cold wallet.

Thank you @Charles Tim for the correction, but I was trying to imply that you can store it in a hot wallet when you dey buy am small small before you transfer it to a cold wallet after you have accumulated the amount you want to Hodl to reduce transactions fees. But off course you should store the coins you want to Hodl in a cold wallet for security and better still for security you can still transfer any amount of bitcoin you buy to your cold wallets directly without keeping it in a hot wallet to avoid any mistake or threat of storing it online in a hot wallet

Good day everyone, so I decided to create a topic about bitcoin hodling for long-term. This topic will serve as an informative introduction to bitcoin hodling for newbie into crypto space for their first time, so if dem get anything wey I miss you fit add am for this thread.

What is bitcoin hodling

Bitcoin hodling is the way or strategy of investment in bitcoin that requires buying or mining  and keeping bitcoins for a long time without any regard to the rise and fall of the price.

How bitcoin hodling works
Bitcoin hodling works by:

1.Acquiring the bitcoins: if you want to Hodl bitcoin you go first need get the coins wey you wan Hodl either by mining the coins or by buying the coins from exchange or from a friend. You can buy bitcoins in fraction or as a whole depending on the capital wey you get.

2.Storage: the next step after acquiring the bitcoin is the storage which is a very important part of the hodling because if your coins are not stored in a very secured place you might end of losing all your investment. As a starter who has not yet acquired plenti coin, you fit store your coin in a Hot wallet which is connected to the internet but this storage method dey risky because hackers fit hack your wallet, storing your coins in a cold storage is much safer because e get enhanced security against all online threat because it is not connected to the internet.

3.Long-term holding: after you store your coins the next step is the hodling for long-term by ignoring short-term market volatility and price rise and fall. You will need to be more focused on the long-term appreciation in the bitcoin price and the value it will have in the future.

4.Monitoring and re-investment: as you continue your hodling you can still be monitoring the market trends and continue re-investing in bitcoin for the long run.

5. Target selling point: as a hodler you can manage your holding by having a price target that you want to sell your coins so you can take profits and re-invest again based on your financial goals.

Benefits of bitcoin Hodling

Plenti benefits comes with hodling bitcoins for long-term and some of those benefits  are:

1.Price Appreciation and higher returns of profits: bitcoin don prove to be very appreciative over time as it is with the case of people that invest in bitcoin ten years ago, they have more profit than even people who invested in tech companies and startups, even though people wey dey trade also gain profit but the profit thay gain is nothing compared to that of hodlers.
So as a holder you gain a lot of profit at the time you decide to sell your coins after long-term hodling.

2.Reduced anxiety over market volatility: the market dey very volatile and if you be hodler you don relieve yourself the anxiety wey dey come over short-term market trends.

3. Having a share of the limited supply: all of us know say bitcoin get limited supply of 21million coins and almost 19million of this coins have already been mined, so if you dey hold bitcoins e mean say you dey hold assets wey go dey very scarce in the future when plenti people don adopt am. So I’m the future wey the demand go high and the supply go dey scarce, holding some part of the scarce supply get plenti benefits.

4. Growth: if you are a hodler, you can take advantage of acquiring more bitcoins during price dips and you go fit use profit wey you get through your holding for some of your finances

5.Simplicity: long-term hodling no require active trading and monitoring of the market and e go help protect you from making bad decisions based on short-term trend.

How to avoid FUD

Fear, uncertainty and doubt nah one of the things wey dey challenging to people hodling bitcoin but below are some thing that will help you fight FUD:

1.Developing a strong and determined hodling mindset:building a very determined mindset about hodling bitcoins will help you fight FUD and your strong mindset go help you avoid being affected by negative information.

2.Engaging in forum discussions: taking part in this forum activities dat concern talks about long-term hodling will help you grow more perspectives about your journey and e go help clarify you on issues wey fit create FUD for you.

3.Making calm decisions: if you dey follow emotional response and feeling you go fit end up making bad decisions. You can share what you dey battle with about your FUD in this forum and you will get the necessary support and information wey you need.

4.Limiting exposure to social media platforms that share rumors that create FUD: if dem get one social media platform wey you notice say Nahim dey always bring you FUD, e better make you limit the time you spend on those platforms and focus more on platforms that will give you reliable information like this forum.

5.Diversifying your investment:diversifying your investment will help reduce your FUD about your bitcoin holding and e go still give you backup plans.

Securing your investment

Bitcoin is stored digitally and so dem get plenti risk wey dey associated with it but to secure your investment you will need to be very cautious and triple check transactions before confirmation and most importantly follow up news about the new scammers way of stealing coins to protect your investment.

Another important thing is your seed and passphrase because many people lose their investment because dem forget their seed or passphrase…having multiple backup(physical backup) is very important to avoid any problems that might cause you your coins. storing your physical backup of seed in a very secure place is very important because someone who know your seed can easily steals all your coins.

Quote
Not your keys, Not your coin

A popular saying in the forum.

Investing in bitcoin like other investment is risky, so before deciding to Hodl bitcoin you go first need do good research (probably in this forum), understand the risk in it and the level of risk tolerance wey you get(invest what you can afford to lose) and most importantly is being ready for the journey: the setback, the growth and the processes………….and furthermore using strategies like the DCA method will help in your hodling journey.

Have more thing to add…..?
Go ahead and post them in this thread…

I no dey pay attention to all these self acclaimed crypto expert and financial advisors online because none of them fit predict the future 100%. Bitcoin na hot topic now because of the spike in price this year, everybody get something to talk now but last year them no fit predict say bitcoin go reach this price.

Expert or financial advisor no fit predict the future 100% but dem fit use analytical tool based on historical trend to speculate and predict some fraction of the future and everything they say is based on probability, like in this case the prediction was influenced by the closing of the market four year cycle and even him talk say it might not be the case because of the presence of institutional investors and ETFs but based on the cycle, we are approaching a bear market and so the price fit dip but maybe e no go crash go as low as $50k, Nevertheless the future will tell.

@OP you have said it all but the things wey I go like add to this be say make we dey avoid sharing our wallet address publicly (especially if u no dey use Electrum wallet) because e dey increase the possibility of this dust attacks…and you go still fit consider mixing services or using coin anonymization tools to safeguard your privacy but you gat dey careful when using dem…..and make we dey very cautious about every small or large transaction wey we wan do and make we make sure say we keep track of our unspent UTXOs.

This dust attack dey very complicated and so we need to understand how these attacks dey work and make we implement the protective measures wey we know to avoid losing our privacy.

I’m considering that but I don’t know where to find an authentic and real cold storage wallet  here in my local..but I’m still searching for it, I hope I find one soon because I am trying to hold it for as long as I can..

Real? Authentic?
Yh because I heard that they are fake cold wallets out there and I will like to have a good one.

Quote
It seems that you don't know much about cold storage; it should be a device that is completely disconnected from the internet. Electrum can be used as a cold storage wallet and must have a separate device.
One device should have no connection, and the other one should have internet connection for watch-only wallet.

Read more here: https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html

Okay ……..I appreciate your effort on this…

Make sure to store those backups in a secure place because as you can see anybody who gets their hand on your seed phrase can recover your wallet and take your coins. Therefore you should know that storing it digitally is the least safe. A physical backup (write it down and keep it in a place where nobody can access) is a lot better.
How to backup a seed phrase ?
Securing your Bitcoin wallets.
Bitcoin security guide.

Three guides for OP on Bitcoin wallet security including wallet backups, what to do, what don't do.

I appreciate that….
I was lucky it finally worked out and I access my coins again, I will make I sure I have multiple backups of my seed in the future..

What's your plan with your funds from your current Electrum wallet?
If you are planning to keep it and hold it, I suggest you better create a cold storage Electrum wallet for safety purposes.

Since you already recovered your old wallet from an online device, we can't guarantee the safety of your wallet.
Having a cold storage wallet is way safer than with your current wallet.

I’m considering that but I don’t know where to find an authentic and real cold storage wallet  here in my local..but I’m still searching for it, I hope I find one soon because I am trying to hold it for as long as I can..

You don raise better point about knowledge of younger ones, especially about the economic situation many people are facing today. I go like talk some important thought to consider:
1.Knowing Wetin cryptocurrency be: as we dey see now cryptocurrencies dey become popular this days, so young people suppose know everything about the risks and volatility wey dey inside the investment to avoid mistakes wey elder ones do.
2.Investment mindset: if young people get investment mindset early e go help dem for the future well well. And if pesin get investment mindset e go get confidence to start the investment with the small amount wey him get.
3.Mentorship: having mentors wey go help you through your journey and provide you with more networks dey very important for young pesin wey wan grow.
4. Learning from personal mistakes and mistakes from others: as young pesin wey dey grow you need to dey learn from mistakes wey you make and the mistakes wey other people make to improve in your development journey.

Good day my country people, as I dey read through my feed nah him I see this new for crypto.news say bitcoin and crypto analyst Joao  wedson talk say based on analysis bitcoin will reach a price of almost $140k in October and after October bitcoin fit crash reach almost $50k in 2026 because it is approaching a bear market.

Joao Wedson talk say bitcoin fit dip to $100k before e pass $140k in October and the crash is expected in 2026 bear market but Wedson talk say e fit still go up because of ETFs and institutional demand.

Here is the link to the news: https://crypto.news/bitcoin-could-crash-to-50k-in-2026-after-october-top-analyst-warns/

So what is your take on this: does it mean 2026 is the year to purchase bitcoin for the future because many people might have FUD and will eventually sell their coins.

It is because I don’t want to make any slight mistake that will make me lose my coins.
You already put yourself in a situation where you could have lost your bitcoin by not making multiple backups of your seed phrase. Luckily, everything worked out in the end.

Have already downloaded the electrum software and I now have access to my funds
If you are going to continue to use your Electrum wallet, ensure that you back up your seed now. Don't put yourself in the same situation twice. After you open Electrum and unlock your wallet with your password, click on Wallet>Seed. Enter your password again and the software will display your seed. Back it up physically on multiple pieces of paper or metal. In the future, that seed is all you need (plus the Electrum software) to regain access to your funds. You don't have to go on a search for wallet files on your drive. The same is true for any other non-custodial wallet.

I was lucky it finally worked out and I access my coins again, I will make I sure I have multiple backups of my seed in the future..

Thank you all for your contribution and attention  to this…I appreciate it.

Nigerian tax reform: Does it affect people wey dey earn through crypto?
by
Hypnotizer
on 07/09/2025, 09:43:15 UTC
I greet una my country people, una good day…by now I hope say everybody don hear about the new tax reform wey the government wan implement by next year on the 1 January 2026.

But Wetin I wan discuss for here be how the tax reform go affect people earning through crypto. The new tax reform don make an mandatory for everybody earning above N800k annually to pay personal income tax with the highest personal income tax reaching almost 25%.

Most people here earn above N800k annually and e mean say almost all of all here go dey pay tax by next year. Below is the breakdown of the tax bracket and the tax they are supposed to pay:

First  N800k- 0%
Next  N2.2million- 15%
Next  N9million- 18%
Next  N13million- 21%
Next  N25million- 23%
Next  above N50million- 25%

So with what we can see above, it mean say pesin wey dey earn above N50million annually go pay 25% of the money wey him dey earn to the government as tax.

People earning through crypto- How the government go take know their income?

As a pesin earning through crypto, the government go know Wetin you dey earn if your dey do transactions wey exceed N5million monthly through the new law wey dem put.
Quote

Nigerian banks have been mandated to report all customers accounts with monthly transactions exceeding N5million to the tax authorities.

The new law mean say if you dey do transactions wey pass N5million monthly, the bank wey you dey use go report your account to Nigerian tax authorities. At the end of the year you will be subjected to personal income tax by evaluating which part of the money is your income.

As someone struggle with the small money wey you dey get through crypto, and your  annual income exceed N800k, the new tax reform will make it mandatory for you to pay your taxes if they know the actual amount of your annual income but if they don’t know your exact annual income they might not be able to impose tax on you.

The only way the government will know your income is you, you will be the one to allow them know you exact income and if they do, you are mandated to pay taxes.

Nevertheless payment of taxes is an obligation on every citizen of the country.

Re: Do you consider bitcoin as a currency or as a digital investment asset
by
Hypnotizer
on 07/09/2025, 07:20:06 UTC
Have you tried typing what is Bitcoin in a search engine online? The answer will be digital currency to be precise but while going deep you will find more use case, e.g.

1. Decentralisation
2. Store of value.
3. No extra printing like money (Limited in supply)

Now it's left for you to pick a side as to what you really need Bitcoin for, use it to your liking, many have comfort in using Bitcoin to make payments online like using credit cards and I do that too but store of value is more interesting to me than anything else.

Bitcoin is for sure a digital currency for peer-to-peer transactions  but I’m talking about the perception of people about it nowadays, different people have different perception about bitcoin, some use it for both the store of value and payment whine others use it for only the store of value.

The definition of what bitcoin is doesn’t matter in what the perception of people will be and that is why people pick the side they are more comfortable with, there are people who exchange the payment they receive through bitcoin to fiat immediately.

This topic is created to know the perception of people about bitcoin nowadays and how  they prefer using it.

Do you consider bitcoin as a currency or as a digital investment asset
by

Lately I have been thinking, what do people nowadays consider bitcoin to be: as a digital asset for storing value and investment or as a currency which was the initial purpose of its creation.

I did a bit research and found out that the perception of bitcoin vary among different individuals.some consider bitcoin as an investment asset, other consider it as a currency and some people consider it as a revolutionary financial tool.
The majority of people consider bitcoin as an investment asset and they Hodl their coins for a long run. The other who consider it a currency keep it for their transactions and some business also accept Bitcoin as a means of payment.

I have a feeling you are overthinking this thing.

It is because I don’t want to make any slight mistake that will make me lose my coins.

It’s a Electrum software and I still remember the password I used back then, I just need some detailed steps and procedures on how I can restore the wallet.
To be clear, do you have an electrum wallet file or seed phrase and not an "electrum.AppImage" or "electrum.exe" file saved in that archive?

If it's a wallet, just copy it to the correct directory for convenience and easy access: Copy it to your "wallets" folder, do not cut nor move (default location)
Then follow the instructions in the reply above, "Choose..." button will open the wallets folder by default.

If it's a seed phrase, just do this: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/restoring-your-standard-wallet-from-seed/

If you're online, you should have a reliably safe machine.
You may choose to do either of those on an "Air-Gap" machine for safety (highly-recommended),
And just follow this cold-storage wallet workflow to spend from it without exposing the wallet online. (at least until you've spent all)

Thanks for the suggestion and I have already start the restoration processes.

The steps are simple: download the app from the official Electrum website, electrum.org, verify the downloaded file with the signatures (the instructions are in the download tab), and then proceed with the steps shown in the following images:

Now, if the wallet is correct, you can use your funds.

Have already downloaded the electrum software and I now have access to my funds

Which one, actually, you ask? How to restore a wallet or how to restore someone's wallet?

Because if you are asking for a procedure to restore a wallet, we have some guides here, but it depends on what wallet. Is that Electrum, Bitcoin Core, or any other wallet?
Adding more details can help us to know if that wallet is recoverable or not.

If that's other people's wallet, you should have some experience before offering a recovery service.

I’m talking about restoring my personal wallet,I will like to have the guides you have so I can restore my wallet and it is Electrum and I stored my bitcoin in a Trezor cold storage wallet.

You should probably start by telling us the kind of wallet software you used back then to keep your Bitcoins. What's the file name or file extension of the wallets files (this could give a clue about the kind of wallet software you used)
Did you encrypt the wallets? If you did, you might want to remember the passwords you used back then.

It’s a Electrum software and I still remember the password I used back then, I jus need some detailed steps and procedures on how I can restore the wallet.

Is it fair to assume that you didn't make a backup of your seed? If you have your seed and optional passphrase and know the derivation paths where your bitcoins are (in case they are non-standard), then you don't need the actual wallet file to recover your coins. Bitcoin Core is an exception to this rule.

If the wallet file is encrypted with a password, you will need to remember it to decrypt the wallet. A password can perhaps be brute forced if it's really simple or if you have a good idea of what it was and perhaps you are only missing a part of it. If it's a really complex and long password with all sorts of characters, it might be an impossible task.

Probably yes because the wallet was missing almost five years ago, what I need currently is jus the procedure or guide I can possibly use to easily recover my wallets and have my bitcoin back..

My wallet got missing almost 5 years ago and I did not bother recovery the bitcoins in it, and then recently I found the wallet in my archival stuff. I need suggestions and some more detailed procedures  about how I can restore the wallet from other people that had same experience.

Any suggestions or advice will be helpful
