Get ready for... sideways forever.

Did I call this or what?

You called it. Side note, Estimated Next Difficulty:    197,309,358,560 (-7.58%). The greatest hash rate/difficulty drop in recorded history (or Bitcoinwisdom recorded history, at least Smiley)

The diff was

196,061,423,940 between June 8 and June 20
It went up to
213,398,925,331 by July 4 ("last push" of the obsolete hardware to make what they could, pre-halving)

...and if it goes to 197 it will be still higher than what we had 5-7 weeks ago, when the daily supply was double... what a "disaster" huh? Cheesy

I hope you didn't misconstrue my shared statistics as a cause for concern. -7.58% (pardon, -7.67% now, went up a bit since I posted last) hashrate drops happen all the time...

...well, maybe not all the time, maybe like once a year, at least...

...did I say once a year? I meant once every couple of years...

OK, I lied. So sue me.

Nothing like this happened since 2011, when BTC wasn't worth anything, and consequentially, the price *TANKED* following year. You got me!

Sorry... where was I? O yeah, nothing at all to worry about Smiley

Ha, you should tell me how to insert VBA code into a comma separated file.
I hear Bitcoiners are good with computers. (good one tho. If file has a .CSV extension, it must be a harmless comma-separated file. Nothing to worry about at all, I'll just go ahead and load it right up Smiley)

Difficulty dropped 18% in October 2011. 1,468,195 -> 1,203,462.

Pretty tricky, Sis! The old Excel VBScript exploit Angry

I'll take your word for it. As i said, "or Bitcoinwisdom recorded history, at least."

Nobody appreciating Blockstream corporation's new acquisition?

http://www.coindesk.com/blockstream-wallet-greenaddress-sidechains/
Blockstream is a giant decentralized stream of blocks and private individuals. You should stop thinking of it as a corporation.

Looks like 656 is the new 666.

Do you have 2 accounts to talk to yourself???  Cheesy

I'm a dull, unexceptional man, of slight means and modest expectations.
But in my dreams, I'm wild and free ... as a bird! to roam with my Roma clan in my quaint colorful Gypsy caravan, bewitching the burghers with my drunken Gypsy dance, befuddling them with my dark Gypsy witchcraft, and ... whoa!! where's your wallet?! Where is it? Presto magico, bitch burgher! Abracadabra. Your wallet is gone!

You think we'll break 660 today? We're kind of due for an uptic.

podyx, thanks for the explanation.
Check the 1.5k volume bar on this chart. You can see the price going up in almost a straight line during that trading period. I assume that means the ask side got eaten into. If the price had gone down in almost a straight line I would assume the opposite.

You're looking at (at a glance) 15 minute bars? One bar != 1 transaction. Try 5, 3, or 1 minute resolutions here: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd, and you'll see that 1.5k bar get broken down into a bunch of little ones.
As podyx pointed out, it's not that simple. You'll see green 1k bars from 499 market sells/501 market buys, for instance (1 BTC "ate into the ask side"). If the ask side is thin, you'll see the price shoot up.

It depends how you classify low volume. I can see two big bars on the Bitfinex 24 hour chart, and each of them is above 1000 Bitcoins and mostly buying.
Is buying possible without selling?

No but if the ask side gets eaten into it's considered buying and selling if the bid side gets eaten into.

Ah, gotcha. How does one tell if the ask side got eaten into by looking at the volume bars?

Turkish currency suffers due to coup attempt...

http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TRYUSD%3DX/news

Bitcoin users not affected Tongue

Is the coup attempt real or some false flag government made to justify they staying forever in power and the state of exception?

BTC users may laugh today, but tomorrow the Internet may be controlled and BTC forbidden or restricted

Already on.
"Access was restricted in Turkey on Friday to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube shortly after news broke that the military coup was under way, according to two internet monitoring groups." https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/jul/15/turkey-coup-attempt-military-gunfire-ankara

Since when have I been pimping Megacoin?
Your avatar. Look at it.

Don't doubt it. The only way you could have made money on that coin is by pimping the shit out of it (what you're doing here with Bitcoin), getting rubes to buy, and then dumping it into their laps. Leaving them with the bag.

Did you mention credibility?

note to self pay slightly more then the recommended fee.  Tongue

I did a bit more checking and it looks like they bundled my transaction with 2 others.  The other 2 just got included in the 9th block but mine is still unconfirmed.  WTF how is that possible?

Tim Draper bought $19 million dollars worth of BTC around $600, then it fell to around $200. He was still buying. It cracks me up that so many people are uninformed, and think we won't see $5 grand anytime soon. Who do you believe, a billionaire with a massive record of success,

noting happened. yet Wink

Yes, the price will slowly up when miners realise that price now cant fill mining cost
So it will not like when we use TNT and boom everything destroyed

The miners are businessmen, with millions invested. Trust me, they don't need to realize anything -- they know.

You just post to scratch out some change from your shitty signature ads, right? Don't bother reading first?

Look at the date of OP's post. Was it made 3 months ago?
No.

No it was not. It was made a few days ago. So WTF does a rise over the past 3 months hav to do with anything?
That's right, nothing.

Was there a price rise since OP's post?
No.
No there was not.
Was it therefore a good call, taking into account that people were promising new ATH and panic buying at the halvening?
That's right, it was a good call.
Which is what I said.

If the amount of sunshine were permanently cut in half by 50% overnight, the weather would change radically.

To go with your analogy, "the amount of sunshine" is not "permanently cut in half by 50% overnight."
The amount of sunshine is still increasing, but increasing at a slower rate, TooDumbForBitcoin Smiley

Once the sellers have sold, they cannot sell the same coins any more

No, but the buyer could. And his buyer could. And so on and so on.

If the buyer sells at loss, he cannot continue for ever (he is out of business at some point). If he sells at profit, the coins get redistributed to new stronger hands.

1. If the buyer sells at a loss, it means he doesn't want to sell at a bigger loss. See all failed alt coins; see DAO; See Beanie Babies.
If your reasoning is sound, it should work for those too.
The buyer doesn't need to "continue for ever (he is out of business at some point)." He has unloaded his failed investment, minimized his losses, now it's the next guy's problem.

2. If the buyer sells for the same amount that he bought it for, it's called "using Bitcoin as money, as intended by Satoshi."

3. If the buyer never sells, the money spent on bitcoin is simply lost money, as good as flushed down the toilet.

Was there 50% less mining power 3 months ago? No, there wasn't.
About 20% lower hashrate, not quite 50%.
But the price also didn't double since then (that would be ~$800).
Quote
25*350$ = 8750$ and 12.5*640$ = 8000$ so miners are making almost the same now that they made 3 month ago
Well no.
