What miner are you using to get 458 MH/s at only 985MHz?  It takes me like 1010MHz to hit that number with the phatk 3% mod.
I use phoenix with phatk 2.2, I think its mostly due to using a headless Linux setup. I have a Windows machine with a 5870 that only gets 445 @ 985 though its my daily workstation and has Aero and other crap enabled.

how did you get the 6990 memory to 600? flash bios and running linux?
Bios is flashed on both the 6990's & 5870's, I did have the 6990's sitting at 150hmz mem clock but I was worried it would cause damage so I upped them just in case.

Here it is, I finally got around to getting the camera out.
This is my home made/bodged/ghetto cabinet I threw together one weekend.
It was an old glass cabinet I found in a skip which I ripped all the glass out apart from the door and replaced with some perspex I had lying around.
It cost me nothing to make, apart from buying the bathroom extractor fans.
4 x 5870's in the top & 2 x 6990's in the bottom.
I had some real trouble cutting that perspex with a jigsaw causing some splits and cracks (easily fixed with good old super glue) Until I discovered some spray grease and covered the blade and perspex to keep it cool while cutting.
And yes, that's a pair of my mothers tights I stole to use as air filters!
I salvaged an old computer case for the hdd bay & the power switches for the side. (it was such a pain leaning inside and using a piece of plastic to flip the switch)
You can't really see from the pictures but I used to use cardboard to wedge the 5870's apart for airflow, but I have upgraded to a length of meccano which works perfectly (hence the little meccano spanner)
This is running happily in my garage which is about 30m away from my house, I bought some old routers off ebay and set them up as access points to get internet in there.

do you run them under linux?
Yes, headless Ubuntu, works great.

PS: Invest in a big box of smoke pellets like these:

They are great for working out what your airflow is doing.

Is that really wise? Is the smoke "clean" or does it leave residues? I would love to see some pictures of someone testing the airflow of a mining rig with smoke.
The smoke didn't leave any residue on my fan blades or the inside of my case so I assume it is safe, they are usually used for testing cooker vents and such things like that.
If/when I have to test it again I will record a video but it won't be for some time now as everything is setup and working perfectly.

Sorry, don't mean to show off... ok maybe a little  Cheesy

Yeah your rigs are the inspiration for the ideas I got in my brain.  I was thinking of having the twist of mounting MB "standing up" so the GPU "exhaust" (I use 5970s exclusively) points "up".   Best way to describe it would be blade server meets mining rigs. Smiley  Cold air would flow under the bottom of MB, be pulled into GPU intake, warmed up, and blown out the top where it would have nowhere to go except the exhaut out.

I wanted to makes some changes to my garage anyways and now my wife has seen other people have "organized" rigs it might happen soon rather than later.
That could work, depending how many motherboards you have in your rack and how you separate them and airflow, my only concern would be the motherboard temperatures. I went for the simplest option to cool mine and my motherboards stay around 40C.
People say that hot air rises, which is true to an extent, but you can manipulate it with fans and ducting to go where ever you want.

Dry ice is pretty hard to come by in the UK, well at least that's what I've found. I don't seem to be able to get it from any local shops or via any kind of mail order.

It's almost fully covered... too much heat will stay inside.

Force air cooling.  If you force cold air IN unless you trapped a blackhole inside the hot air will be forced out.  Now you are right if you just slapped together some shelves and cards that would be bad.  It would require some "ducting".

Don't laugh at my ASCII "art".
Code:

hot air out pulled out
^
 <- bank of GPUs   <-
 ----------------------
 <- bank of GPUs   <-
 ----------------------
                                 |
                                ^ (cold air forced in)

All the ^ are fans indicating direction of airflow.
Only two banks shown but more could be used.
Hooking all the fans to a fan controller with some temperature probes in each bank could be used to optimize cooling.  Upper bank would need higher airflow because air is lazy.

Sorry, don't mean to show off... ok maybe a little  Cheesy
My first one, might be for sale. Uses 6 x 5" extractor fans, 4 as intakes; 1 in the top ducted down to the middle of the gpus, and 3 on the opposite side blowing air onto the back of the gpus. Then 2 fans sucking the hot exhaust heat from the front of the gpus.

And my latest creation, same kind of idea as the first one but much more refined and awesome looking. Using 3 x 6" high pressure long life fans, 4 spigot intakes that are split 2 fans to each two sections, then 1 fan on spigots and ducting extracting all 4 outlets.

Got a 5870 out on miner1 and hoping for a replacement soon then ill have to do something to sort out the cooling on the second 5870 on miner1 as its a bit high.

Air in, air out, as simple as that  Smiley

I've just finished my second cabinet, I had some 5970s come in and thought I should expand a little and combine everything to take up less space in my garage.
Maybe I will sell the other one on ebay  Undecided

Sorry for the crap picture quality, it is taken on my mobile phone and I have literally just finished it, I might have to tweak a few things here and there but I was excited to show you guys  Cheesy

It currently holds 1x 6770, 1x 6990, 6x 5870 and 6x 5970
1000m3 air in via 2 fans split between each 2 sections, 500m3 air out via the 4 exhaust ports.
I have only had it mining for around 30 minutes so far, so I won't quote temperatures just yet, but its looking good so far. (Will have more time this weekend to play around with it and get some proper pictures and temperature readings)

It has come to my attention that the power bill for the Hydra data center has not been paid for the months of November or December.  This is a significant amount and the delay in payment is causing Mississippi Power to have some concern.  Joe and I were able to negotiate the deposit down from $150,000.00 to $50,000.00 but our failure to pay the bill in a timely manner could cause that deposit to go up.  I was told this morning that a disconnect is scheduled for Jan 16 if the bill is not paid.  Please let me know something by the end of the day so I can relay the message to Jeff Beaty at Mississippi Power.

Thanks,

SEC investigation stuff https://groups.google.com/a/geniusesatwork.com/forum/#!topic/ocf/17lXN1FDJ7E

Quote
Due respect and following the legal advice, but isn't it an "investigation?" And that being the case, are we not misinforming of the situation, which may have negative impact in the world in which we live? People, including us, are splitting hairs between "inquiry vs. investigation."

This version speaks the truth of the scenario:

"Yes, there is now an investigation being conducted by the SEC. As such we can not comment on any active investigation. We are complying with all requests made the SEC and are cooperating and working with them."

Wouldn't this blend be a bit more "transparent:"

"The company is currently responding to an SEC [investigation], and is fully cooperating with the SEC.  At this time we have no further comment per company policy concerning ongoing matters of this nature."

I may be misunderstanding based on literal meaning of the word "inquiry."

noun, plural inquiries.
1.
a seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge.
2.
an investigation, as into an incident:
a Congressional inquiry into the bribery charges.
3.
the act of inquiring or of seeking information by questioning;interrogation.
4.
a question; query.
