Re: Someone Random Trademarked "bitcoin" : Now we can't use the term?

maybe we can just avoid all this nonsense - change the name - and do it right this time.

Bah. Honestly it would be seriously counter to the spirit of Bitcoin if we trademarked the name. No one person should hold licensing rights to a decentralized currency that we all helped build.

uh...so what do we do...keep changing the name so we don't get into trademark wars?

It has already been mentioned that the term bitcoin has been in use in the public domain long before the Trademark was filled.  I don't think the TM has a leg to stand on.  Also, anyone with bitcoin in a domain name should not have to worry about this TM if their name was registered and in use before the TM was created.  The person with the TM should not be able to get those names that is known as "reverse domain hijacking".

ok, fine. but still, this is an issue we need to think and talk about. how many of us honestly saw something like this coming?

I didn't see it coming and you are right this is an issue that does need to be talked about.  I'm not a TM lawyer, so I guess my opinion really does not matter, just the law, wish someone would step in and chime in on the subject with more knowledge.

Ahh, so true, except its been regged since 2000. ;p  Now, if Godaddy would just let us see for certain if the contract on it ends when the current registration does here at the beginning of 2012...

How does it normally work when valuable domains expire? Is there a known second when they become available and the person with the best internet connection and a lightning script gets the name?

Pretty much any name worth picking up from a drop is grabbed by sites that auction them off to the highest bidder.  You can place backorders on names.  For names with backorders, they go to the highest bidder to ones with backorders.  That is the gist of it anyway.

Looks like the peak was mid June (the 11th, 12th, 20th) and trending down since then.

Re: Is tradehill.com really hosted on a shared hosting account?
by

Unless they prove them self or have someone as a security expert, it will be much safer for them to use shared hosting rather than a VPS/dedicated server.
Why is that?  How is shared hosting safer than VPS or a dedicated server?  I don't know much about these things but I have been told that if you have a shared hosting account your site is more or less only as secure as any other site sharing that server.

VPS is a step up from shared hosting, but really, I am surprised to know that they do not have their own dedicated server.  A dedicated server is only around $100 to $200 USD a month.

Someone made a comment earlier today that tradehill.com is hosted on a shared server, was that guy having a laugh or is that true?  That would be  scary if it is true because you cannot have a secure site when you are hosted on a shared server.

Are you using an escrow service for the transaction? What exchange rate are you asking in USD/BC?

I have not used either yet but I think MtGox is the biggest and Tradehill is a lot newer.
I do like the way Tradehill displays the current prices over MtGox, much easier to read.
There is also https://www.bitcoinmarket.com/ but they are invite only at the moment.

The only options I see, allow you to deposit real money into the system.

https://www.tradehill.com/DepositOverview/

What if you wanted to sell your BTC?

I signed up for a Dwolla acount, took a few days to verify my bank account.  I have deposited money with them but it is still not
in my Dwolla account yet.  Once it is I think I should be able to deposit the money into tradehill and buy/sell bit coins.  Please, anyone,
correct me if I am wrong.

How would payment be made?  What price are you selling at?  How can someone be sure the transaction is secure?

Easiest way is to buy them, but you are broke, so I suggest finding a second job or a first one.  Roll Eyes

i cant since most places wont hire until im 18 im 16 and 1/2 right now

In that case, try finding work around the neighborhood.  Get a paper route, clean rain gutters, mow lawns.
Course, that is what I did back in the day, now you can probably find work online.

Maybe you could try http://fiverr.com/

Use very strong passwords anywhere where money is involved online, and DON'T use the same password at multiple sites.

Agreed, so many people underestimate the power of the password.  To make one really secure, use special characters like #, !, &... that
makes it real hard to crack.  Also use upper/lowercase and alpha/numeric.

Any amount would do, I am new to bitcoin and wanted to see if its worth it.

here is my bitcoin address

Leeches like you have no place in a True Free Market, these posts should be bannable.
No. Nobody is to dictate whether this man has value or not besides the individuals who are capable of donating themselves. If people want to donate to this guy for just existing, so be it.

Leeches and parasites will always be a cancer on a True Free Market, he and anyone who enables him should be removed.

I don't like beggers but don't they have a place in a Free Market?  The market will decide if begging is worthwhile venture.  Hopefully this market says it is not.

I'm new to the forum and sort of new to BC been following it a couple months.  Not really kicking myself that I didn't get in when it was under a dollar, no sense in that.  Just here to learn as much as I can about, interesting concept.
