Re: Project Mainstream - So we got Bitcoin on Alex Jones. [Link Inside]

Stunts like this only serve to make bitcoin look like the currency in the Looney bin, focused efforts on well planned outreach and the construction of new business and enterprise to take advantage of this new economy is what's needed.

If Bitcoin was slightly more well known, I would agree with you totally and I do agree with you a little bit.

But the fact is, whether he made it look like a currency of a looney bin or not, he got the name out there. Right now, that's what's needed more than anything. People just need to know about it regardless of how they know.

Plus, there is there is a huge portion of Bitcoin that probably deserves to be in the looney bin anyway. Too many people are seeing it as a method of subverting the government, or being an anarchist currency, than really seeing the big picture of it just being a standard form of internet currency for E-Commerce. If you want to bring it out of the looney bin, start working on this here, rather than pretending like it doesn't exist. You see it everywhere around these forums. Normal people don't give a shit about being anonymous. Normal people don't give a shit about subverting the government.

I'm gonna go protest the color Purple instead. I wish to have it removed from the spectrum.

The sad thing is, my lone protest against the color Purple probably has a better shot at getting something accomplished than these OccpyMyStreet guys have.

I  could probably write one myself, but I'm sure there is one out there with more time in it than I would be willing to spend.

However, I don't know where I could find it if it did exist. Does anyone know? Just something to quickly show what you should buy/sell at to make a profit or anything extra.

I think he was referring to Bitcoin Markets, or w/e torrents you had up, being the pyramid scheme and not Bitcoins.

As you said, they have left other Bitcoin related material alone.

:rolleyes at "nothing illegal"

Technically, it's not. I guess it could be under some hacking laws, but I don't think I've seen any cases about individual virtual personal property being taken to court, just DCMA violations.

However, it is pretty much the definition of "black hat".

I don't think he's referring to the exchanges, but rather the fact that you can't put money into Bitcoins like you can on 95% of the rest of the internet. You have to go through backwards hoops, use sites you've never heard of to get funds into your account so you can use the Exchanges.

This is a problem that someone seriously should find a solution to. If you have a large investment in Bitcoins, it would probably be in your best interests to find a solution to this,  more people would be apt to buy bitcoins and drive the price up. From what Iv'e seen on the forums, is that everyone is content with the things are now, because they've already gone through the hoops and hurdles of these sites. Newcomers still have to go through it.

What's Walmart? Not everybody is an american, you know?

It's a department store with cheap crap.
Look up "World's Largest Companies" and you'll see Walmart at #1 by about a $75bil/yr lead on #2.

I posted links earlier in this thread as to why everyone is trolling him. Instead of trolling the trolls, based on nothing, I'd advise you to take a look at those links.

Trading with fake money is the best way to get a good understanding of it. It uses real-time market data and you buy and sell just like you would with real money, except it's fake. It's not really a "practice" program, so much as it's just using fake money. It's the real thing.

When you do go for it, don't go for high leverage. I made that mistake I ran 1:50 (I think?) and gambled away about $2k over the course of about 6mo. I actually got that up to about $8k at one time, but it slowly dwindled away from there. I think I pulled out with $500 or something left. It's a great feeling to see your money multiplying with leverage, but the same happens when you lose money too.

I just don't get it. How is the act of giving some guy bitcoin a plug for bitcoin, or in any way sharing it with millions of youtube users?

Honestly, I don't get that or how the OP is connected to him. I guess I threw you in with the other guy who was just trolling because he posts on SomethingAwful or something like that. lol.

I'm not connected to the OP nor do I even understand what he's doing.

who the fuck is Freddiew?

is this a joke?

Really? You don't know Freddiew?

I think he may be the second most famous guy on Youtube. He's actually the only podcast (I guess you call it?) that I actually watch.

My favorite is the real life Aimbot. :-D

This thread is nothing but pointless trolls. 2 more people to add to the ignore list. Who gives a fuck who posts where? Seriously. Get over yourself.

Re: Domain for rent - BTCPlay.com
by

renting a domain is insane, basically they are inevitably going to have to pay more and more rent if their business succeeds

I've honestly never herd of anyone Renting a domain, other than paying their yearly fees to ICANN.

Sounds ridiculous to me. Domains are basically the name of your business. Like you said, if the business succeeds then basically the person you're renting from has you by the balls. Since you won't even be able to inform your patrons that you will be moving if they jack the price up too high, the renter will just change nameservers and you're pretty much SoL.

Re: Revolutionary new system for Bitcoin
by
Richard Rahl
on 23/09/2011, 19:42:11 UTC
I could see it being something worthwhile if it was easily attached to their existing registers. In small stores/bars/restaurants where you only have 2-3 employees max, I could see it being great. However in anything larger, it's quite a bit of overhead.

Are the employee's supposed to have their own smart phones? Alot of employees at places like restaurants, may not want to spend money on a smartphone because they make just over minimum wage. Most smartphones are going to be almost a full 2week paycheck. Alot of them have them, sure, but you're talking about a requirement now and that makes things different.

Is the business supposed to supply them? The store has to put up a huge investment in something that's not even stable yet when they already have a proven register system that works well and is widely used.

Once again, with alot of these new things with bitcoins:
Is it cool? Yes, absolutely.
Do I wish it would take off? Of course.
Is it going to happen, with the present implementation? Not a chance.

Now, one of the steps for bitcoin to succeed, is to be widely used and widely known. To be widely known, people have to know about it. If the small businesses out there, who are Bitcoin enthusiasts, start picking up these systems, then it could potentially lead to the spread of Bitcoin. If you're a small business and own a smartphone, then there is really no reason not to.

Re: thunderstorms

Proper surge protectors should be good enough and most proper surge protectors have warranties on the equipment that is attached to them. There is really no reason to shut off electronic equipment during a storm.

The world doesn't shut down because of thunderstorms. Stores don't close. The internet doesn't go down (unless your local area got hit). Stuff keeps running. I see no reason why a mining rig wouldn't be the same. Especially if you lost a whopping 10% of your mining time. A small chance of losing a $50 surge protector doesn't seem worth it to me.

I really see no need for a UPS on a mining system, unless you're using that system to type up important documents that you need to save if the power goes out.

I live in Dixie Alley and I never shut any of my computers off during even the worst storms.

Never heard of anything like that. I did transactions the instant I signed up on MB.

Same here.

I didn't say anything, because I haven't done anything with them in over a year and I signed up to the service several years ago. I do remember that when I signed up, I sold a WoW Account and the money was in my real bank account within a week of signing up.

I did some searching after the first reply, but I couldn't find anything about them holding money for 30days.
