It's a token on Ethereum, so there should be no issues with simply sending the Ethereum around.
In short, the idea is that you can lose your Ethereum transactions trace by using the protocol.
So people can just send you the Ethereum and you will know the balance. Then you can privatize the Ethereum which you received if you really need to.

If you search for it on uniswap you get many different tokens presented with a warning about potential scammers. How do you actually buy some without too much techno babble?
You are on the right path, just make sure it's the right contract. Simply ignore the UniSwap warning, I think it's there for the most tokens anyway.
It doesn't seem to mention how you know, when someone claims to send you X BUCC, how much BUCC you actually received?
There are "Decrypt" and "Partial Decrypt" functions in the dapp (note this will issue a transaction) under Tortuga which reveal your balance.
Running Decrypt will deanonymize any private balance you have (so only run it if you don’t remember/know what balance you have).
Partial Decrypt will deanonymize any smaller balance you input that is smaller than your total private balance.

Dev announced yesterday that he will be updating the dapp, so maybe that's causing temporary hiccups. Today, dapp takes a while to load for me as well, but it does load eventually if you let it.
Otherwise everything should be working.
