Everyone should check out the Poloniex Twitter account: https://twitter.com/Poloniex

Click any of their recent Tweets and have a look at the comments.

If you have substantial amounts of money in Poloniex, you won't sleep well the coming night.

i'm now hearing so many of these complaints across different mediums, that i'm now becoming very concerned that this is cryptsy 2.0. this time, way more money is on the line. Undecided

I'm really interested in your findings. Could you pinpoint me some sources, e.g. Tweets, Facebook posts, Forum threads, Reddit discussions, etc?

exchanges do this for days and weeks on end without making any effort to begin resolving the situation. i received 3-4 such boilerplates over 7-8 days from coinbase the last time i had an issue. when a real person finally responded, they basically ignored my emails and were obviously still referring to a templates of boilerplate answers.

from the sound of peoples' recent experiences at poloniex, it could take weeks to resolve even this small deposit situation. if it gets resolved at all.

Do you think they got hacked and had their coins stolen? And now they're delaying deposits and withdrawals to cover it up? Could it be my ETH were used to finally process another user's delayed withdrawal request?

A bit of positive news on my case:

Contrary to many other reviewers here, I got an answer to my Poloniex support ticket after 18h 13m. I consider this an average response time, so no reason to complain on that.

On the other hand, despite the answer to my support ticket being really polite, it reads like a copy 'n' paste they send out on a daily basis. And more important: My funds still haven't been credited to my account.

I'll keep you posted.

Does anyone have negative poloniex experience here? What escalation process actually get's them to answer a ticket? Do we have any poloniex reps here?

3rd time that my ETH deposit has been delayed... Sometimes it works, sometimes you need to wait DAYS...
They never respond to tickets, even if you are a verified user with ~10k BTC trading / month.
Best : Deposited ~500ETH when had good prices on poloniex, had to wait 2 weeks till they credited it to my account. Price went down about 30%...slowest shit ever!

Did your ETH deposit show up in the deposit history page as pending during these two weeks?

A few days ago I found a batch of ETH in an old paper wallet I once created and forgot about. So I decided to bring these coins to Poloniex and do some trading with them. I even bought the Leonardo Trading Bot just for that. (I don't have the brass neck needed to do day trading with my remaining Bitcoins.)

As I had an account freezing issue in March 2016, I decided to evaluate recent feedback on Poloniex first before I entrust them with a significant amount of ETH. So I did a Google search for strings like "Poloniex deposit problems" or "Poloniex Ether problems" and applied a filter to only show results not older than three months. By doing so a rise in complaints surfaced, but not a such big rise that it would have justified a red alert. I supposed it was just the result of a rising demand.

However, the increase in complaints at least justified to do a trial balloon first. So I decided to first deposit a few ETH to Poloniex, do some trades and then withdraw my funds as ETH, BTC and XMR. Just to get an impression in how smooth the workflow on Poloniex is right now.

And know what? My suspicion was well founded! The deposit didn't make it through! It's not showing up in my Poloniex account, neither on the balance page nor on the deposit history page. And of course I sent more than 0.5 ETH to the correct ETH deposit address. Hours passed since the transaction and it has now 500+ confirmations on the Ethereum blockchain - but still nothing.

After years in Cryptos I had many problems with frozen accounts, delayed withdrawals, hacks, scams and bankruptcies. But a missing deposit is new even for me.

If this doesn't resolve quickly, it will be the last time I used an exchange outside my own jurisdiction.

No. An Electrum server has no way of knowing your actual identity or MPK, but does know your IP address, wallet addresses, and balance. That's all.

Thanks for clarifying this.

Does Electrum communicate the master public key to the server?

A few days ago I decided to switch from Bitcoin Core to Electrum, as running a full node when firewalled by a NAT is quite ridiculous.

As far as I understand, an entity knowing a wallet's master public key can identify all used Bitcoin addresses (e.g. all the addresses with a transaction history) of this specific wallet on the blockchain (plus all addresses that will ever be used in the future), but can't spent any funds.

So my question is: Does Electrum communicate the master public key to the server it is connected to? In that case a malicious server operator could severely compromise the privacy of Electrum users...

Btw: In case I got something completely wrong; please enlighten me!

Good news: I got my coins back during last week!

Sorry for the late feedback - I was on easter vacation.

No explanation was given to me on what had caused the delayed withdrawal.

Bter.com doing a fractional reserve scam? ("Waiting for balance...")

Just signed up to bter.com because the exchange looked quite legit.

As always with cryptocurrency services, I tried them out with a small amount first before sending in more money.

Exchanged some BTC (Bitcoin) for XMR (Menero) and tried to withdraw the XMR. And know what? It didn't work!

Seriously guys, is there even ONE exchange that doesn't hold your funds hostage?! Angry

On Bter's XMR withdrawal page my withdrawal is listed with the following status: "Waiting for balance..."

To me this looks like a fractional reserve scam, i.e. Bter doesn't have enough XMR in their pockets to meet all [actual/possible] withdrawal requests.

Opened a ticket on their support page and will report any news on that issue the same way I did with my (now solved) Poloniex problem: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1261707.msg14163860#msg14163860

My issue was finally solved.

6 days after opening the ticket I got this message from support:

Quote
I am very sorry for the delay, please log in to your Poloniex account and fill your profile level 1 information at:

https://poloniex.com/profile

Please use the same information you have previously used.

Let me know when you are finished and I will send it for verification immediately.

I did as told and my account was re-enabled quickly.

Withdrawing my BTC also worked well.

Update on my situation: I just got an answer from Poloniex support staff member Johnny Garcia:

Quote
"I will investigate this and be back to you as soon as possible."

So they are a bit slow right now (replay took ~35h) but they respond. Will update when I get an explanation for my situation...

Yesterday my Poloniex account got frozen. When logging in it displays the following message after entering the correct 2FA code:

"Your account has been locked. Please contact support."

See a screenshot of that error message here: http://www2.pic-upload.de/img/29996237/Poloniex-Youraccounthasbeenlocked.Pleasecontactsupport..png

Of course I wrote to support immediately, but so far no response for more than 24h.

See a screenshot of my message to support here: http://www2.pic-upload.de/img/29996238/Poloniex-HelpdeskFrozenAccount.png

It's the second time in a row I'm having problems with Poloniex. The first time was just a few days ago, when a BTC withdrawal was automatically put on "WAITING APPROVAL" after I clicked the confirmation link that was mailed to me. Staff made the transfer get through 15h after I wrote to support - and also advised me to activate 2FA, what I did thereafter.

There never was any transaction spamming from my side. I wanted to put a larger amount of BTC to Poloniex for lending (safe and steady income), but decided to tryout Poloniex first with a smaller sum (1 BTC) first. Trading on the exchange and lending worked well, but they disappointed me with that manual approval thing. Withdrawal problems make me feel goxxxed instantly! But after getting my money back I thought: "Hey, that 2FA thing is quite sane, let's try it again!" So I sent 1 BTC to Poloniex again ... and wham-bam my account got locked.

I could imagine different reasons:

  • Using VPN (not Tor) with many different IP addresses: I change my VPN servers frequently to watch TV content online from many different countries (Germany, Switerland, US, Japan, etc).
  • Stuck Verification: I entered my (valid!) data for tier 2 verification but the verification failed and I was told to use tier 3 verification instead. But that sending of an image with me holding my passport is a step too far, I will definitely not do this. So I decided to stay with verification tier 1 for now.
  • Maybe I entered a wrong 2FA code. It's unlikely put possible.

Will update on the situation...
