Re: Why everyone keeps selling their long waited ASICMINER USB?

Plug in 333 Mh/s for $250 into any of the calculators that take into account an exponential rise in difficulty and you will find that these never break even. If the difficulty is rising exponentially, which there are strong indications that it is, these items will make less and less at a rate that means they never pay for themselves at any power use or electricity cost.

I plan on running some and selling some on Ebay. Profits from Ebay means I won't need to cover the cost of the ones that I do run.

Assuming the price of bitcoin will remain the same... - if, in a years time from now 1 BTC = $500 dollars then these little usb gizmos will have been a steel...

doesn't work that way. you could just buy 2.2BTC instead and have no energy costs and make 1100.
at this rate, a USB miner won't ROI, ever.

But where is the fun in that?

Looked at from a purely financial aspect, these are not a good purchase unless the USD price per unit stays the same but the BTC --> USD value increases or the BTC price of the unit drops.

These are selling on eBay now for around $280 - $300, down from ~$400 a couple weeks ago.  Some are not even selling, either.

Re: How many THs delivered & deployed by KnCminer this year?

I wouldn't put any thought into the "Available" number on their website.  It's just a number they plug into their database.  If the over-order, they'll likely just refund people.

Playing with KnC's order system I get this message:

http://i.imgur.com/KLV96js.png

Sam said recently that they will just manufacture and ship hundreds of units per day, so even if you are not in the "first 500" Jupiters you will get your units in September. He also said they are not producing "closed batches", just manufacturing and shipping sequentially following the order backlog. But it looks to me they are indeed making batches, as there are only 1,487 Jupiter left to be ordered in their system.

We have people in here that is very close to them. Does anybody knows how many TH/s are they planning to ship and deploy from September to December 2013?

This is crucial information in order to be able to calculate ROI.

It's looking like difficulty will be stable at least through the next change.  The drop in BTC price probably had something to do with that, since it made a whole bunch of miner's unprofitable, and thus were taken off line.  If the BTC price stays around $100 or drops even further, difficulty will likely remain stable or more linear and less exponential, at least until all the unprofitable GPU's go offline and BFL ASIC's start getting turned on en masse.

If you could, but right now they're going for BTC1.99.  I think they could make a reasonable profit off them as low as BTC0.5.  I don't know if they intend to mass-produce these or if they're a one-off kind of deal.

hmmm but they make like .01 BTC per day, if i can bulk buy them @ 1 BTC each, 100 days and they paid for themself

today I'm going to experiment with a bunch of these fans: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OJN250/

I got one of those fans and took it apart and modded it into my desk so that I can exhaust hot air from the computer compartment without having a separate plugin for the fan.  It just plugs into the computer and when the computer is on the fan is on.  It's pretty durable and quiet at its lowest speed.

As cool looking as these are, and as much as I want to get into ASIC, it looks like these will probably never earn you your 2BTC.  At current difficulty, it would take something like 240 days to recover your investment, but we all know difficulty is shooting through the roof.  Considering the basic chip is around $10 in bulk, the whole shebang should be going for around $50.  I know you didn't set the price Canary, but that's my .02 BTC.

Have you asked both of the lucky Jalapeno owners yet? /snark

Have any of you lucky Jalapeno owners tested your new machine on any sha-256 alt coins?

I've searched the forums for new jally owners opinion's on this and have come up empty.

Just Curious

Have to agree with this.  If you already have the equipment, mine away.  But otherwise I wouldn't invest in new GPU equipment right now.  I've been mining with a 7970 for about a month or so and have earned a whopping 0.5 BTC.  Whoop-de-freaking-doo.

For starters, I would just not bother, It's too volatile and difficult to get any sort of ROI on your equipment, For one gpu, Say a 7990 will make you around 0.02BTC a day, If difficulty stays at it is (which it wont) the card will pay for itself in about 2 years assuming you have free electricity, And the card survives that long.

Personally, I would just put your capital you want to invest, And just buy BTC, The value will go up quicker than you ill be able to mine it.

If you really want to be a miner to support the network, I suggest FPGA's, Slightly more expensive but a lot cheaper to run and maintain.

Video's can be faked.  Hell, CGMiner is an open-source code, they could have just compiled a custom version that shows "Something" mining at the spec'd speeds.

I have purchased 2 butterfly lab ASICs. I purchased the first one a while ago and the second one more recently (which i feel is more of a mistake now). I still have faith they will deliver their units though as i read they had their ASICs linked to an android tablet mining at a bitcoin conference in the US for everyone to see. They have a few videos on youtube showing their concepts and I hear they have been waiting for their boards to arrive (supposedly).

I'm keeping my faith, although it does seem there are A LOT of speculation they are just running a long term scam. I can understand if they don't want to ship out all their mining rigs at once in fear of watering down the price of btc (and i guess it makes sense they're shipping out the low end 5GH/s models first then moving onto the higher end ones). Incredibly frustrating but patience is a virtue.

Really hope these do come to fruition!  Huh

What does the community think?  After BFL's fiasco, I'm rightly hesitant to believe any ASIC company will have product until it actually delivers something.  Is KNCMiner sounding like they can legitimately deliver?

Just to throw my .2BTC in here...

At today's difficulty, it would take you around 10-15 days to recoup your initial investment (in $USD).  It'll take you much longer to recoup your BTC investment, but it will probably still be around 6 months to a year.

I'd keep it and mine it if it was me.  But it's not me, it's you.

If you want to sell, you'll make money immediately, but if you keep it it will probably be worth more in BTC over 2-3 years.

Building a 4x 7950 rig would be ~$2000, give or take, would hash ~2Gh/s, and would take about 6 months to pay off at the current difficulty.  But we can probably expect the difficulty to be up by 50% in six months, if not more.  If I could build it for ~$1000 it would make a better cost proposition, but at twice that it's not very effective against $300 5Gh/s miners coming online now.

No.  I have determined that, for myself, it's cost-prohibitive and would probably not net any profit.

So, anyone building some new rigs?

Same here... I'm targetting the services industry rather than mining or trading; hoping to get a few more games etc online Smiley

Are you guys not doing it because of the initial cost for building GPU rigs or because of the looming threat of ASIC? I made my first two rigs last month, one with four 7950s and one with two 5970s. They've been pumping out about 4gh/s and I've made about 4 BTC. Subtract the cost of electricity and one of the 7950s has paid for itself already. I also didn't have all the cards up and running on the same day, more like a week in between the first and last two 7950s. I expect this month to be a little better.

Sometimes you gotta throw your money at a lot of stuff to make something stick (and work).  The government routinely does this, and does it even more during times of war.  Music labels do this, as do sports agents, etc.

The truth is that there is no real guarantee that anything you throw your money at will work.  If you're evaluating BFL as a business, as a VC, it's probably not going to look very good.  But it could, so you take a chance.

I am sure there are many epic fails in the history of mankind, but how does another fail make the BFL fail any better?

I would personally go with a LGA1155 Intel board unless you're biased against Intel.  If you get a good one, you can start with a Celeron for @$50, and later move up to a quad-core if you're into gaming that much.

Also, where are you getting the Radeons for $329?  Best price I could find on them was $399 or so, paid $409 for mine.  Although I hear 7950's are the best power/price right now.

Hey Guys
I know this has been asked a thousand times but i'm overwhelmed with the amount of info out there. I would like to take a gamble with bitcoin mining and my primary goal is to cover my costs and if i dont like it to have atleast a decent gaming PC at the end Smiley

Money is not a problem really, i just want to have a decent bitcoin rig and be able to convert it to a excellent gaming rig if it doesnt work out.

So what are your thoughts on the following setup?

Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card         323.99x2 or x3
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard                       141.98
AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail           161.99
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10)   99.95
Corsair Professional Series HX+ 1050W '80+ Gold' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020033-UK)      170

I already have a case, hd and cooling sorted.

Id really appreciate any helpful thoughts or suggestions. Thanks in advanced.

Regards

I'm hoping to score some ASIC love for Bitcoin, and when, or maybe if, that happens, then I'll switch my computer to Litecoin.

Hi,

I'm the newbie of newbie's.

If the PC is no longer adequate for mining, what set-up is?

Can you point me to a link dedicated to the intro of building mining rigs.

Thanks so much!
