Re: [ANN] The Official Thread for COLU a Colored Coins protocol API
by

Nice to see some progress in colored coins development.

I've tried Coinprism wallet recently and it seems to work fine for me. But I noticed that there is very few people using current Open Assets protocol. Why?

Most people trade shitcoins or some strange tokens on various alt-chain like NXT, counterparty, bitShares and  MaidSafeCoin.
What's MaidSafeCoin anyway? Why should I trust some pre-mined alt-chains for asset management?

Sorry for these stupid questions, but I think that the solution for trust-less asset depository must be based on current Bitcoin blockchain, if we want to keep it safe.
What am I missing here? Is something wrong with current Open Assets Standard?
Will COLU protocol be compatible with current Coinprism wallet?

Most bitcoin investmenst are scam. But if you really want to lose money, you can do it with style.
I've created virtual company for Dr. Zoidberg and I need test subjects for this experiment. You only need to buy some shares, they are very cheap  Smiley

This is not regular scam. It's double scam.

Re: Bitcoin TLD in Public-root

Sorry for late update, but you don't need to worry about security, because this project seems to be dead for few months :-)

DNS servers should be still working, but in very restricted mode, very few IPs are whitelisted and recursion is disabled.  It can still work if you use DNS provider which resolves Public-root domains, but your chance is slim. Last time I checked, there was only one Public-root server running, so I think that there is no point to run bitcoin domain in alternative root.  Also demand was very low, I actually received more complaints from hosting providers, than domain registrations :-)
For some reason, running idle open-recursive DNS servers with no restrictions attracts bad people, who use it to for DDOS amplification attacks against even worse people.

It was fun, but now I want to waste time and money on different projects. If someone is able to get oficial ICANN domain, it would be nice. But I'm afraid that market is very small. Non-bitcoin people will not give a fuck.

I love your site, but there is a bug that seems to change the label of one address to the one either above or below it. The only way I can fix this is to wipe all the address and start over again, adding one address and labeling it, then the next and so on.

However if I delete an address then add a new one it always gets labeled as the one above it or below it. Can you look a little closer into this and let me know what' going on.

Thanks. Love the site othewise.

I have the same problem. This service is great, but this bug is very annoying. I've just sent very small donation to help with funding of development needed to fix it  Wink
If this issue gets fixed, I will consider to send same donation again. If Bitcoin price will be uder 5000 USD by then, I can even remove one leading zero from the amount:-)

I have recently seen some work done on namecoin to use it as  an alternative, decentralized DNS and not just as an altcoin

Dear all,

Im the one of the provider like TLDs.name,   our company website is www.internet2tlds.com

you guys really confused about tlds.

1) top level domain names were sold by two parties ICANN normal route, INAIC alternate root.

ICANN gives TLD for 185k + 25k per anum charges and you can sell and buy domains

INAIC only Sells Public TLDS and charge 1k and 250 per Annum, you can still sell the domains and they wont be available for all public, those who has enabled small program to enable their comuputer, if you are living in USA i belive you dont need to enable with this program, because Internet2 is enabled in USA.

please feel free to ask me if you have any questions,

you dont need to go and ask credit card provider as you cheated  or some one make fraud, if you really got the bitcoin pTLD and wish to sell it then i will found some people you just only transfer the name to new provider.

Thanks,
Hari Krishna

Thanks for info, but I'm not selling this domain now. I've just started to offer registrations. If there will be demand then I will extend the infrastructure and maybe build custom DNS server application for it. More info here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624038.0

Bitcoin TLD in Public-root
by

on 25/05/2014, 00:08:31 UTC
Good news everyone,

I managed to setup DNS servers which are resolving Bitcoin top level domain.
It's an experimental project and now it's in early test stage, but I decided to write down this post so anyone can test it, join development or just let me know that this whole idea is incredibly stupid.

About this project:
I don't really know why I registered this TLD in first place. But I remember lot of beer and business plan for selling domains which cannot possibly fail Grin
Because this domains is in alternative root, it will be hard to get it widely recognized. But on the other hand I think it's not as impossible as it may look.
It's great opportunity to make DNS system little more decentralized, but still compatible with official one. The ultimate goal is to create a platform which will handle name resolution, domain registration, payments and disputes from single interface.
If possible, I will try to get this domain into official root servers, but I'm definitely not going to pay ICANN fees.
Any ideas or contributions to this project are welcomed.

Basic facts:

  • This is not gTLD recognized by ICANN (www.icann.org). You will need to change your DNS settings to use it.
  • Domain is registered by INAIC (inaic.com) registrar tld.name (alternative to ICANN) as pTLD (public TLD)
  • DNS records were successfully added to Public-root servers (public-root.com) (alternative to official root servers, available for public use)
  • Two name servers with TLD zone are running and are available for public use
  • Any DNS compatible with Public-root should be able to resolve this domain (+many other pTLDs and cTLDs from INAIC)

DNS servers:

ns0.bitcoin128.127.111.25
ns1.bitcoin77.78.104.136

Test page: www.bitcoin

Because this project can easily go wrong, I delegated all responsibility to Dr. Zoidberg. You can trust him, he is a doctor.

http://zoidberg.eu/ZoidbergTrust.jpg

Current offer:

  • You can register domain right now for 0.025 BTC, just PM me or mail directly to Dr. Zoidberg (doctor {at} zoidberg.eu).
  • You will need to provide your desired domain name, email address, bitcoin address (you have to be able to sign message with it) and DNS records you want to set up.
  • There is no expiration time for domains registered this way. Precisely speaking this domains will expire if this project is discontinued.
  • Lot of things can go wrong, there is no guarantee of service availability. Use this service at your own risk.
  • If you need access to your yourdomain.bitcoin website from regular Internet, you can use our famous plumbing services and access your site through yourdomain.bitcoin.plumbing. Ask Dr. Zoidberg to get your plumbing functionality enabled for free.
  • There are no terms of service right now, service is operated by incompetent crustacean on non-regular basis. When in doubt, please respect our policy:  "All hail Zoidberg! The king with the box!"
  • This offer is valid until canceled.

Project status:

  • only 2 DNS servers are operational
  • domain registration is manual
  • no interface for DNS record changes yet, just Zoidberg
  • no website yet
  • only IPv4 supported

Makes me think of namecoin

Quote
Namecoin (sign: ℕ; code: NMC) is a cryptocurrency which also acts as an alternative, decentralized DNS, which would avoid domain name censorship by making a new top level domain outside of ICANN control, and in turn, make internet censorship much more difficult, as well as reduce outages

Unfortunately Namecoin is used more for trading than it's original purpose. Maybe we should consider some hybrid namecoin/public-root DNS in this case

The site you registered with is not correct for a REAL top level domain.

The real ones had a round of applications which ended in the last year. Those applications cost $185,000 and auctions for conflicting domains.

Real TLD applications are only performed through http://icann.org

For all the real details check out http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/

I spent 14 years in the domain name industry.

Thanks for warning. I'm new in domain name industry and I see it needs some changes.
Who will pay $185,000 for 7-letters TLD domain? It's just crazy. What is real benefit for average domain holder? You save few letters when you type URL?

I know that tld.name use alternative public-root DNS. But It seems to be better choice for Bitcoin than over-regulated ICANN.
Maybe it is just scam, everything is possible - but their terms of service seem reasonable and I have no reason to trust them less than you. Your nick doesn't help either :-)

Let's see which DNS system will be "real" in few years. I know it's risky investment but It is probably not good idea to wait for bitcoin TLD domain to be approved by some over-regulated corporation. I tried to find some useful infomation on ICANN website but it seems that they have more board members than root DNS servers.

Even if tld.name and whole Public-Root DNS is pure scam I will not lose more than people who had more than about 1.75 BTC balance on Mt.Gox.

The $1K was just an application fee.  You are asking to create an entire new TLD and the requirements and costs are significant.

If I undersand it correctly, it's just 1 year registration fee. But I don't need to built custom Registrar service right now. I can agree with any existing Registrar or just sell the domain. I think that worst thing that can happen is that I loose 1K USD.

.BITCOIN waiting for INAIC approval?
by

on 01/03/2014, 22:39:17 UTC
Hi all,

I tried to find some funny-looking Bitcoin related domain I can use to test very small project. Everything was reserved so I went for bitcoin.plumbing.
Then I found TLD.NAME offers registrations of TLD domains. I typed "bitcoin" into check field expecting some info about state of this domain. I was really surprised when I saw that .bitcoin domain is not registered. I was little wasted so I didn't bother to do much research and just filled the form, paid registration fee by credit card and get this confirmation email: (invoice info removed)

Quote
Thank you for registering TLD: .BITCOIN.
Your TLD request is submitted for approval to the INAIC Council. The INAIC Council shall not refuse to approve TLDs, except for TLDs that might cause conflicts in the future. If the INAIC Council does not approve your TLD Request, your registration fee will be refunded.

TLD.NAME invites you to subscribe to TLD-News. TLD-News is a newsletter published by the INAIC. TLD-News provides complete coverage of the fast changing TLD industry. As soon as a new TLD is created it will be announced by TLD-News. To subscribe to TLD-News visit: http://inaic.com/index.php?p=tld-news
If you have any questions about this email, your TLD or the registration fee, please contact, please contact TLD.NAME support: site@tld.name

Regards,
TLD.NAME
Approved and Accredited by the Internet Names Authorization & Information Center (INAIC)

Your TLD Request:
pTLD: .BITCOIN

TLD-Server 1: tld1.public-root.net
TLD-Server 2: tld2.public-root.net

Motivation:
I'm supporter of Bitcoin network and I've just tried to find a domain for my Bitcoin related activities. Unfortunately it seems that all pre-orders for good bitcoin domains are already taken. Just by coincidence I noticed that TLD for Bitcoin in available to register at your site for 1000 USD. If it is really true and domain speculators forget to register it, I would like to buy it myself and save it for Bitcoin community before somebody hostile to Bitcoin will take it. I plan to resell domains for BTC exclusively just to people who have trust of Bitcoin community. I will consult it with Bitcoin Foundation and trusted individuals like Andreas Antonopoulos.

Remarks:
I have no prior agreement with any Bitcoin related business about this domain. I'm not even member of Bitcoin foundation. I'm not regular domain speculator but as active private investor I see this as long term investment. I probably accidentaly sent this form under TLD zoidberg which I opened in next tab, please ignore it :-)

Did I just registered this domain or did something incredibly stupid?
If INAIC Council approves it then we should start to think what to do with it. I would like to avoid selling .bitcoin domains for highest bid because it will end up messy like any other domain. I think it should be implemented in decentralized way using blockchain. Or should namecoin be used?

Any ideas are welcomed. If it gets approved I would need help from people specializing in DNS services. I'm SmartCard and crypto oriented developer and I think I will GOX it if try to implement it myself. Also I have almost no free time to handle such big project.

Hi,
I'm sorry for stupid question but I didn't watch this forum for a while. I need to check if I understand recent development correctly. I have 20 chips from this list and paid order at Burnin's eshop. Do I need to do anything (update this order at CryptX eshop) or just wait for my Bitburner XX to be assembled and shiped directly by Burnin?

Thanks,
chrocht

I was on phone with burnin since i had to sent him a new list of chip owners because of some errors i had done. He mentioned when the production foundry is fast he could get the boards on wednesday and could start shipping them. If they are fast enough of course.

zefir wrote me the 1015 chips are with him and he wanted to send them today from germany to me. Theoretically they should with me on monday.

Here now a list of all 9430 chips that should be sent to burnin. Please take a look that i didnt do an error. In case you dont have an assembly ordered yet please care for it.

I tried https://www.smenarnabitcoin.cz/ and successfully bought 2 BTC for CZK, It should work also for convesion from BTC to CZK (didn't try yet). They use regular bank transfer (FIO Banka).
