Re: Vega 56 NITRO+ Power Consumption issue

Hey,

just got my nitros and plugged them in today. Quick question, is the bios firmware locked or is there just no modded bios available yet?
Polaris bios editor wouldn't even open the bios. Or perhaps there is no need to change the mem straps?

trixx recognized a vega card but other than that i couldn't change any clocks or power settings.

is wattman or miner config the only ways to undervolt/boost memory for now?

sry i hijacked your thread Smiley

cheers

Hey mate, I found out how to change the values on OverdriveNTool (but more importantly, also the SoftPowerPlayTables within REGEDIT) if that's what you're looking to do, which is as good as modding the bios.

I couldn't mod the bios, let alone even read the original roms on either Polaris or SRBPolaris, both of which I used for my RX580's for my ETH rig...

Anyway, if you're looking to use it for cryptonight algo, I'm happy to point you in the right direction!

I recently got my VEGA 56 NITRO+ as well, and I have the same questions as RetardationNation... if I don't get an answer soon enough, I will probably have to refund all 8 of them

Re: How to make rig connect to Wi-Fi in case Ethernet fails?

Get a load balancing router. Hook the router up to at least two independent internet providers. I bought this one "TP-Link TL-R470T+ Load Balance Broadband Wired Router" on eBay for $21 (was brand new in the box too). I have it hooked up to my DSL right now and I'm going to get a LTE router (that uses Verizon) and run a cable to the TL-R470T+ so it will be able to use the LTE if my internet goes down -- which has frequent outages...

Sounds like a great idea, but I don't think the scale of my mining warrants two independent internet providers

Are you using the second wireless AP as a bridge, meaning your Internet connection comes in on the other one, and then you're using the second one to get ethernet to your mining computer (it's bridging the two points with WiFi)?  If that's the case, then you're really not doing ethernet, you might as well just run WiFi on the computer mining and be done with it.

Personally I would replace whatever is taking down your ethernet - if WiFi is more reliable than ethernet, something is seriously wrong with your setup and you're better off diagnosing that then trying to do some sort of failover to another connection.

No that's not what's happening, there are two WiFi hubs that are connected to phone lines via ADSL, and I happen to have a mining rig connected to one hub, but I was thinking how it would be possible to get mining rig to connect to the WiFi downstairs whenever some issue comes up with the top router/hub.

There's no specific reason why the ethernet is being taken down, I've just noticed that sometimes the router just needs a reset, and I can do it via 192.168.1.1, so if ever I'm away, I could still connect to my mining rig and then since it's ethernet cable is connected to the top hub, I'll just reset it from there remotely even though I'm not home. But if both are down, then bad luck obviously.

How to make rig connect to Wi-Fi in case Ethernet fails?
by

I live in a place with 2 wireless routers, 1 of which I have connected my rig directly through Ethernet.

However, sometimes the Ethernet (or the router that provides the connection) dies... and yet, my rig doesn't seem to automatically switch to the available wi-fi connection...

Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Good news!

The coin burn the 10th of January will be 20% (!) of the whole supply.

To the moon!!!

Oh really? Do you have a link?

20% coin burn would mean a 25% increase in value!

Hi. Sorry to ask this this way, I'm not the kind of guy that asks other to the research for him, but I had a pretty messed up day with my family (my mother had an accident and my grandmother is dying  Sad ) and now I'm trying to catch up with cryptos, but obviously I have to take care of these important events. I've read a few comments about TRX and some where saying congratulations! or that we are going to be rich and everything. I know that yesterday there was live stream from Beijing, but a few posts said that it didn't met up to the expectations. I'll get to work now and try to understand this, but please could someone explain me what this fuss is all about? The price and market cap is below yesterday's value (if, after the streaming TRX has a bright future, then it's time to buy), when I read the posts I thought that a MAJOR rise had occured, but nope. Or was all this because of the spike it had a couple of days ago? Has something fundamental changed with TRX after the streaming? I'll research, believe me I'll do it, but could some kind soul please tell me in little words what happened? If it not were for my family issues, I would be reading my ass off and posting my own opinion (which I will). Familiy comes first, but a little help here would be much appreciated. Thanks!

yeah buddy family comes first

my grandma passed this morning...

I do this all the time. Not sure what the dig deal is

In claymore you add  -di 0123, to indicate the first 4 gpu’s will mine that. The you can start another instance of claymore with -di 4567 for the next 4 cards to mine whatever else you want.

Ahh! I think I get it now! Thanks!! Cheesy

Oh right, my rig is gonna be 8 AMD cards, and 4 NVIDIA cards!  Shocked

Will that be a massive problem?

How do I manage my devices? Can't I do it all on one monitor and use dummy plugs whilst managing the overclocking?

which is why 12 card rigs can be stupid

there are a few ways  to do it

if you want to mine on nicehash

you can run multiple instances  and setup the nvidia to one coin and the amd to another coin

but in the end  both coins will be auto converted to btc.

I run  a cpu and an amd on nicehash doing cryptonight

I then run a second instance  for the 2 nvidia  cards for zec

on one I check the cpu and the amd

on the other  check the nvidia   but in the end they all become btc

Okay... my 4 NVIDIA cards haven't arrived yet, and I can still amend the order...

Should I order AMD ones then?

Also, would it be easier to run 8 of the AMD cards on CryptoNight, and then the other 4 running Ethash?

I'm guessing that it'll still be better than having a mix of both AMD and NVIDIA on one rig?

Don't try mining Cryptonight AND Ethash on the same GPU since both algorithms are very "memory hard".
You'll see very poor hashrates on both sides of that idea.

Do you mean that I shouldn't do it simultaneously?

I was thinking more that I'll give it a rest and switch it from CryptoNight to Ethash, would that be okay?

most importantly, do not start to mine on the same rig with the processor and hard - it will start to breathe fire)

Okay, but how do I set them up? Any ideas where I can get a guide? I'm decent with hardware, I built my own PCs since I was 12, but I've never tried moderating or managing GPUs.

Just always settled with one good GPU for gaming, that was it lol

It IS still low. It will go even higher, their projects are just starting. You can easily get 5x-10x if you buy now imho

If you check out their website it's domain is getting expire in the end of 2018 is it safe?

Good point. Even though I hold them and I made a profit, I am rather skeptical about it all...

Apart from the big four, I think there are many others with a focus on privacy such as ZCoin, Aeon and Verge. I'm sure there are many more, but these are the few I really like.

How private is Verge though?

I'm thinking of building a 12 x GPU rig, 8 of which will be running CryptoNight for Electroneum, 4 of which will be running Lyra2REv2 for Vertcoin.

All 12 of which could also be used for running Ethash to get Ethereum probably.

The equipments are on their way and I will be setting it all up in the next few weeks.

Would this work out alright?

It is possible, but the complexities listed by other users add additional (and mostly hidden) costs that you may want to avoid.

What kind of hidden costs?
