Re: [Boxing] Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao WBC Welterweight Title - July 19

I don’t really get why Mayweather is suddenly being brought up. Yeah, he beat Pacman, but he’s been retired and there’s no sign he’s coming back.

It's because they are arch-rival and they should have fought when Manny is still in his prime. But Mayweather chooses to fight him when Manny was already beaten and so for us he could have at least given Pacman a rematch. And the thing is that even Manny himself said that he wants to fight Mayweather. So his name will always be there for discussions.

After seeing Pacman’s fight with Barrios, you can tell he’s still tough to beat. Since he already tested himself against a taller opponent, maybe next time he can go against someone closer to his size, so we can see more of a toe-to-toe kind of fight, not the usual defensive style.

And honestly, no need to worry about his age. Manny’s already proven that age is just a number for him.

And so we wanted for Manny to at least make another fight. I've heard Romero or even Pitbull Cruz? Not sure if Manny wanted to fight either of the two, but if the money is right as I read that he gets close to $20 million and then Barrios at $3 million, then maybe another fight might also be possible for the legend to accept anyone who is more willing to face him to get a good money.

Re: The "Lottery Ticket" Mentality
by

on 24/07/2025, 07:02:30 UTC
Lots of people have a lottery ticket mentality in life. It is actually sad and a little pathetic. People think that getting rich is easy or that they can just luck their way into riches. Life just doesn’t work that way and the people who try end up losing all their money and being miserable. If you want riches, work for it. Trying to get it easily will cost you.

Yes, I still remember one of my dad's friend, who he can't contradict in front because his friend will go against the odds and look for the underdog let's say in a horse racing. But then when you compute all the money that he had lost because of that mentality and then one or two underdog wins, then it is still not enough. But most likely I do agree that most of us might have this kind of thinking, however, I don't know if it is bad or not. There could be argument that it might be good to try it from time to time. But it might not be a smart strategy in the long run as you will really end up losing a lot of money. Might be better though to being smart most of the time and then have the lottery ticket if you just feel like scratching that itch from time to time.

Re: When gambling what do you measure? Luck or chances?
by
cryptomaniac_xxx
on 24/07/2025, 05:24:55 UTC
Different gambling activities have different chances attached to them and when I mean chances I am referring to the probability you have for actually win the bet or hit the jackpot in games like crash and slots. This is basically because sometimes unrealistic bets can sometimes play out as a win and some other times bets that have a high winning chance can eventually become the losing bet.

I believe people who gamble on sports may understand this better since sometimes in sports betting some gambler's prefer to go for the smaller odds that usually have a higher winning chance and sometimes they can still end up a losing game however some prefer to go for the big game with big odds and smaller winning chances.

What's usually your pick as a gambler since sometimes some persons are luckier than others?

It is impossible to calculate the odds in slots, because it is like a "black box" about which only RTP and the maximum multiplier are known. The odds can be known in advance in roulette, as the game is completely transparent to mathematics. Based on this, various strategies are used. For slots, the more spins there are, the greater the chance of getting a big multiplier that will outweigh the House Advantage. However, the stakes are small (because the bankroll is limited). You can make big bets in roulette, because there is no point in a large number of spins (this works for House Advantage). If we draw an analogy with betting, then I would rather prefer high odds. A small chance of winning can be increased by several bets of this kind. At least it's more interesting than betting on favorites all the time.

That's why it is said that slot is the worst kind of game for us, because of RTP and the odds are pretty much against us except maybe when you have all the luck in your side. The thing is that it's one of the most played games as the attraction is visual and audio and we all know that as humans we have that kind of liking. And so maybe when we play slots we just rely on our luck to win big or at least risk everything in just a couple of spins and see how it goes. Of course, we prefer high odds, so perhaps games like baccarat or black jack might suit us. I also love to play roulette, high adrenaline, but if there will be games that I would regularly play then it will be baccarat + strategy and you might end up winning big.

Re: Bitcoin bubble pop
by

Well isn't it what the historical logs of Bitcoin shows? I mean it's a speculated asset for all we know, and then we will have the bear (market is down) and the bull run (price is pumping). Same story with altcoins although we have seen that it has decoupled already with Bitcoin so who knows what's going to happen for them in the long run. But for Bitcoin market, the only thought we have is that we might see super-cycle. But for me it will still be the same pattern or cycle, we will have a huge bull run every 4 years. Supply is going to dwindle overtime and so there will be a race for us and those hedge fund companies to get as much as they can. And as what Saylor preach, just continue to accumulate, the longer the bigger and then HODL. So bubble pops and then the a new cycle begins. Unlike the tulip bubble centuries ago, when it pop, it didn't have the chance to recover because of the circumstances.

Regarding a possible Joshua Vs Paul fight, Tyson Fury announced that he will be putting $1 million bet on Jake Paul:
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/tyson-fury-prediction-joshua-paul-35585913
I don't believe he would though, and it's likely just a sh*t talk, as there's some bad blood between him and AJ going on for years.

Eddie Hearn (AJ's manager) confirmed there are talks about making that fight happen, but I find it hard to believe that Paul would really go for it. On the other hand, losing to an active top-heavyweight would bring him no shame, unelss he gets KO'ed in an embarrassing fashion.

I don't think that he will feel humble if ever he get KO'ed the way Francis Ngannou was knockout by Anthony Joshua. We will just reason out that he lost to a bigger and heavier puncher and that he has the balls to face a active heavyweight. Although it might contradict and expose himself that he can only beat up wash up former boxers. But if it will make a lot of money for him, then why not? He has no shame as what you have said, and it's all about the money. Although I might prefer to see a match between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in Wembley before any of them announced their retirement.

I’m from Philippines and we are one of the country with many active gamblers. You can refer to this site https://www.pagcor.ph/regulatory/industry_statistic.php for the statistics of PH gambling since PAGCOR is our regulatory board dedicated for casino.

Gambling here is so popular that our senators already trying to implement rules of total ban of gambling including social media promotion due to the damage it gives to normal citizen.

And talking about the Philippines and SEA in general, here is the data that I found,

https://seasia.co/infographic/20-biggest-gambling-countries-in-asia-2024

I was surprised to see that they have a lot of casinos? More than the Macau itself? So no wonder there are a lot of problems right now in the country as the proliferation of land base casinos and offline casinos are rampant.

Re: 2025 NBA Season
by
cryptomaniac_xxx
on 23/07/2025, 21:41:35 UTC
There's going to be serious competition in the West again. A lot of teams strengthened themselves this off-season.

The Thunder kept most of their championship core together. The Rockets got stronger by adding Durant. The Lakers brought in Smart and Ayton. The Nuggets solved their depth problem by adding Bruce Brown, Cam Johnson, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Valančiūnas. The Clippers signed Beal, Chris Paul, Brook Lopez, and Collins.

All these teams, which finished in the top five last year, made these upgrades without losing any key players from their rosters. It's going to be a very tough battle in the West.

I'm confident the quality of basketball will improve next season, and it will be a fun season to watch. Considering both the teams' improved rosters and the Pacers' style of play, I feel like we're returning to the NBA era of the 2000s.
Of course, the rules are different, and we're thinking of this place as a company now, but perhaps a year filled with hope awaits us. I'm especially curious to see what the Rockets will do. Alperen Şengün and Durant will be really good together Smiley

Nah, you mean there will be tough defense next season? I doubt that, we are already in a era wherein defense is not being played or it's easy to score basket as compare to the era of the 200's. Players now are more of taking long shots even center unlike before. Definitely though I will agree that it's going to be fun and interesting as there are a lot of transfers like Durant going to the Rockets. But there are a lot of star players that are also out, like Haliburton, and Tatum and Kyrie. So there will be someone to step up with that teams. And then the rookies too, maybe we can see that there will be a close fight for that ROTY award this season.

Re: "Is Bitcoin the ultimate savings tool?"
by
cryptomaniac_xxx
on 23/07/2025, 08:39:18 UTC
Most people generally think of Bitcoin as an "investment for profit". Again
Many Bitcoiners see it as a savings tool – especially those in developing countries. Because it holds value for the future and is personally controllable. The total supply of Bitcoin is 21 million and it has historically held its value for the long term. This makes it relatively easy to send remittances and Bitcoin can be seen as a "digital savings account".
There are price fluctuations in the financial markets.
But I think holding it for 5–10 years will actually be profitable.
By putting aside some regular portion, just like fixed deposits used to be. It is a type of investment or opportunity to make a profit. "Buy low, sell high" is an asset that you hold for the long term, not something that you "buy when the market is up and sell when it's low".

I think it's safe to say that Bitcoin is one of the best investment tool that we have right now. But don't get me wrong, it's not that easy to make a lot of money from it unless you are are early bird investor or holder and didn't sell during it's early years. I would also agree that at least one full bull run holding is good for everyone to test it out how good Bitcoin is. Nevertheless, it's not that easy to do that, unless you really have that mentality and willing to sacrifice and not being tempted to sell when you are in a profit already. So there is no secret formula here, look for the bigger picture and you will all be good. Specially right now that the supply is really dwindling, and with that the price is going to skyrocket in the future, the basic supply and demand in works.

Re: Does the novelty wear off?
by

on 23/07/2025, 07:41:39 UTC
If you are extremely rich and you can just gamble up to your heart's content, does the novelty of winning wear off? Like would you get tired of gambling since there's really not much risks because you can gamble with any amount and still receive little to no consequences?

No, I don't think that the novelty will wear off even for people who have a lot of money to burn in gambling. Just look at Drake or Dana White, this two has a lot of money but they still chooses to gambling. Maybe they really wanted to feel the risk or the adrenaline rush when they gamble so they continue. Maybe they will take a break or something, but then will go and continue again. And it's really hard to quit gambling when you have a lot of money. And we all know that there are psychology on gambling itself, for us maybe we are competitive inside and we don't want to lose. So there's a lot of reasons, maybe it's not just about money.

Re: Usyk - Dubois Rematch July 19 Undisputed Heavyweight, Wembley, London
by
cryptomaniac_xxx
on 22/07/2025, 09:20:17 UTC
I expected Uysk to win via UD, where Usyk will dominate by outboxing Dubois since he is a very technical boxer, but damn, the guy went up and beyond and got a knockout. This fight just cemented that Usyk beats Dubois without any doubt.

I saw a thread weeks ago about the possible match-up between Fury and Usyk. I wouldn't be surprised if Usyk ended up winning against Fury and leaving Fury with 3 losses in a row from the same boxer(which would be rough mentally if you ask me).

Someone is ready to pay for this? At the moment, Fury is who at all? If he had battles against Joshua or someone and won, then it could make sense to spend the third battle, but now he is just a bag-pensioner.
However, I see in the news that Usik earned 133 million for the battle with Dubois ... Now I understand why Dubois agreed to battle (having probably 99.9% of the confidence that he would be beaten).
Maybe, I mean, according to the article from this thread "Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk trilogy fight April 18 2026, Turki Alalshikh said that "Fury would come out of retirement next year" and "I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026". It is also mentioned in some of the articles that Fury said if he didn't get the fight with Usyk, then it would be Joshua.

Yes, it's all over the news that Fury is going out of retirement for the Nth time and fight a trilogy with Usyk. Although I will say that the majority of us here could be seeing the same result that Usyk will win. And with what he shows in this fight, who knows, maybe a knockout is now possible as Usyk has power specially with that left hand. But the good thing is that Fury is really close to HE Turki and that's why he is more willing to offer big money for Tyson to fight Usyk again. Actually both of this fighters will get a well deserved paycheck again. But I'm still interested on the Fury vs Joshua fight. I mean both might be in their primes specially AJ. But they have been domestic rivals and so for for all the marbles of it, we wanted to see a all British showdown before they hang up their gloves.

The small Japanese star just got signed by the Bulls.

Breaking: Chicago Bulls Sign Fan Favorite Yuki Kawamura
Quote
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Bulls and Kawamura have agreed to a two-way contract for next season. Kawamura posted averages of 9.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 2.2 steals across five Summer League games coming off the bench. While Kawamura could've signed anywhere, he's staying put in Chicago.

His numbers probably came from garbage time since he barely gets used, maybe because of his size. But this little guy’s got talent for sure.
He got some attention during the Olympics when his team pulled off a few upsets. Hopefully with the Bulls, he’ll be used more effectively.

Good luck to him.
He's sure got some talent and I am happy that he's signed by the Bulls. The Memphis has wasted his talent when they've got him already and just let him go. He's actually a good substitute when Bane was no longer with them. But then, we have to move on and wherever he is right now, it's the Bulls that took care of him and given him the chance to showcase his capacity even in the Summer League. If it's not with the Summer League, he would probably go back to Japan and just go on with the B League but the risk and time he's put and taken is worth it.

Yeah, at least he was given a contract to show his talent again. Admit it or not, he is a fan favorite because of the manner on giving passes or assists to his team mates. He is small but he can read plays and again a good passer. CP3 and Lillard story, they are going back to their previous teams, and it might be historically good for them as they could retire for good for their old team and most likely their jersey numbers are going to be hang in the rafters. And who wouldn't forget about the Lob City with a prime Blake and those posterize dunks? Love to see CP3 with the Clippers, although I don't think that he will get the minutes as they got Harden. Although I'm thinking if there is still a beef with those two? I mean when they are team mates with the Rockets, it was said that Harden was the one who tells the management that they should get ride of CP3 because on how they've lost the Warriors that time.

Re: [Boxing] Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao WBC Welterweight Title - July 19
by

on 20/07/2025, 10:27:16 UTC
For someone who was retired for several years and only had months to train, Pacquiao gave a great show. To be honest, I didn't expect it to be a draw, I thought it would either be a win or a loss for Pacquiao (I already saw people saying Pacquiao won the fight tho ahaha). Also, you can see in this fight how age has caught up to Pacquiao.

Pacquiao wasn’t so dominant, but it was clear he was ahead on the scorecards that he landed the cleaner and heavier shots on Barrios. Still, a draw is fine I guess. It just means Pacman’s effort wasn’t enough to take the belt this time. In the rematch, which Barrios already said he’s open to, I hope Manny goes all out from start to finish. Now that he’s no longer busy with politics, he can really focus on the fight.

Yes, I do think that Manny was robbed again in this fight, for me he should be ahead in points as he control the latter part of the fight. And I don't think that Barrios leads or did better in the championship fights as others might have suggested. So I can't imagine those two judges, they didn't see that Manny is scoring and getting the better of Barrios. You can see the disappointment on Manny and some of his fans as we all know that he could have really be the winner and his hands should be the only one being raised. I have nothing against Barrios, but as what we have speculated, he is the weakest of the 147 lbs. So he remain the champion, but we will have to see what will be the next stage on Manny. He is still well love by fans around the world and I think he can still give us a good fight.

by

It's all over guys, Usyk proved his superiority again by knocking out Dubois in the 5th round. And when we thought that Dubois will make it a great fight, it seems that Usyk went on another level and deliver one of his best performance with that left hook that sent Dubois in the canvass twice. So there is no debate right now as who is the best heavyweight in this era. And with this win, Tyson Fury might be wanting to continue his retirement.  Grin. Although there is a report already that there will be a 3rd fight between the two but we might consider that it will still be the same result. But this time Fury might lose via knockout. I just look at the votes and it seems that this is one of those fights that most boxing fans here got it wrong as most of us voted for Dubois to win.

Well, I kinda agree with you about GSW, but they would be way above the salary cap. The question is, are they willing to go that far just to get James? but that would be lit. Imagine Curry and James playing together as Warriors and during a farewell tour at that. I can already imagine ticket prices skyrocketing, especially at their home court.

This is impossible if GSW will not give up Jimmy Butler. Curry, Jimmy and Green already consume most of the salary cap for GSW.

I doubt Lakers want to straight trade Lebron to Jimmy Butler since they can get much better young players trade with that salary to build around Luka.

The best team Lebron can land are those who have lots of 1st draft picks and mid star player.

GSW would have to just eat the luxury tax and spend 200 million extra to add Bron. He said he’s only going to Dallas, Golden State, or Cleveland.

Marcus Smart is headed to the Lakers after being bought out by the Wizards. I don’t know if he can still ball but he adds a lot of toughness to the team. If nothing else he should keep DeAndre Ayton in line.

Yes, that was the latest news that I saw, Smart is going to the Lakers and it was said that this is what Luka has suggested to the management to bring a tough defender. I think the Lakers needed this type of player in their roster. Someone that is tough specially if the game is on the line. Smart is not just a defender but he can also score if needed. So I think this is a good move for them, from getting Ayton, to signing Hayes. In any case, I'm still waiting if there will be a team that will go and get Chris Paul? It will be good if he can retire as a Clipper though.

I don’t know, something tells me Dubois will jump on Usyk from the opening bell and try to turn it into a slugfest, which Usyk will likely try to avoid.
I think the best tactics would be aggressive start without saving stamina for late rounds.

But Dubois isn’t agile enough to stick to this tactic from the start to the end of the match. It’s more likely that he’ll be the one completely exhausted, not Usyk. Heavy punches to Usyk’s body might be a more effective approach. His trunk has proven to be something of an Achilles’ heel. If Dubois can take away Usyk’s breath, he might be able to break through at least on the scorecards. Still, I believe Usyk is well-prepared for this clash, and I’d probably bet on his win.

Same here. Gonna bet on Usky to win because he has proven that he is the undisputed champion who has defeated other boxing champions,

Bookies are also favoring Usyk, but the odds for his win are too low. Surprisingly, the odds for Dubois are also relatively low, though slightly higher than those for Usyk. Betting in boxing is definitely a risky business, I must say. I usually bet on football matches, but today I’ll test my luck in boxing. It seems like the majority are backing Usyk, so it would probably be unwise for me to go against the hive mind.

Well there are other options not just ML and I think most of us here might take a big risk on that. Maybe per rounds, or round range, or if the fight is going to end on KO or by decision. It's because that Usyk is the undisputed HW champion right now, all belts belong to him but Dubois is like a new and trying to make a new for himself by fighting Usyk. This is not the first time that they are going to fight. The first fight though ended up in controversy, so a rematch should happened. And this is a win win for fans, as we will also seen another great fight in this date. I haven't check the time though, but I'm hinting that the Usyk vs Dubois fight might happen earlier than the Pacquaio vs Barrios fight. Maybe some bettors here might have a plan to do parlays to increase the odds.

It is nice that you have your emotions towards gambling under control, and it could be said that you can easily control yourself and gamble moderately that you do not get addicted. Once in a while, taking a break from gambling activities could help one reduce their urge to consistent gambling, or maybe stop an impending situation such as addiction, which could set in at any time. As a gambler, putting yourself on track would be okay, so that you could put the excess of your gambling lifestyle in check.

I think that is the key here, we really need to take a break from gambling as it will have a positive effect on us. Specially mental health, as many of us could have been symptoms of depression when we are in a losing streak. I mean it's hard to get off the bed when you suffered consecutive losses, like when you play online and you are are unlucky and then you go out with your friends and try land base casinos, but still no luck. So with that, it's better to really just stop and then try to control yourself not to lose anymore and then just get back the confidence that you once had in your life without the any gambling noises.

I don't know but what can you say about Manny's physique? It is still the same as before? Seems to be though that his abs is not as defined as it used to be. So maybe that is already a sign of aging.

In any case, good luck to those who have put a bet on Manny as he is a big underdog here.

2.5B is a whole lot of money lost, but we have to consider that bybit exchange lost $1.5B of that and Cetus exchange lost $220m, so if these services had invested in their security, then the losses would surely not have been this high. So as people learn to secure their funds from scammers, they should obviously not store it in any third party service, because they could easily lose it there, not your keys, not your coins.

I will till give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they really invest some money on their security, but we all know that this cyber threat will always be there. And we have seen that this criminals are targeting their employees, and do reverse engineering so that they can have access. If there is one thing that they would invest, then it should be in their employees to learn that they are now a target. We can't really avoid exchanges as most of us are trading and wanted to make profits. So we should be trading on exchanges that we know that funds are safe, or at least SAFU so that we can get back our funds although it might not be 100%. But at least their is some compensation and yeah, withdraw your funds right away if you reach some threshold as far as your profit goes.

Based on the Sportsbet.io contest here on bitcointalk, most people are picking Barrios to win.
I can't find this match on stake, I'm sad that even if I want to bet for Pacquiao on this match, I cannot. I think many doesn't believe in Pacquiao anymore because he has aged already. But I still think that he's got that power in speed although might be slower nowadays. We'll see if the younger caliber is going to win against him or it's still the pride that Pacman has got in winning this fight.

Pacquiao is the huge underdog and so we understand why some bettors will for Barrios to win this fight. I mean he is young and probably in the prime of his boxing years. As compare to Manny, who is old, admit it or not. You can even see the white hair on Manny, a obvious sign for Asian that they are really that old. And I do believed that most Filipinos are going to bet him for sentimental reasons. Nothing to be ashamed to admit that. But it might be very hard for Manny as he is a long shot unless he still possesses that power and speed that will knockout or knockdown Barrios. And this is the only way that Manny can win, test that chin early and then show his footwork and speed and power. But if there will be fans that are not going to beat because they don't know or don't want to bet on Barrios, then maybe they just want to enjoy this fight.
