Re: Linux VS Windows
by
d.kevin29

Been using Windows ever since my first PC without any issue. Of course, I've had to go through a few lessons and learn the hard way, but that was way before Bitcoin's existence.

I tried different Linux distros & I just can't get used to them. Being used to Windows makes an OS switch pretty hard and there's also the advantage of having about any software you need supported for your Windows PC.

The problems appeared when I wanted to start mining. There were a few cgminer versions available as Windows binaries and later they vanished away. My Windows Defender automatically removed the binary files every time.. annoying as hell. Tried moving to Linux to mine using GPU but gave up shortly after..

I believe if you've been experimenting with Windows a lot and know what to avoid and what not to, Windows is fine too. Linux is safer and as far as I know is very hard to be infected. For now... I'll be sticking to windows. Although I keep contemplating about moving to Linux again... Grin

Re: How is Bitcoin living up to Satoshi's original vision?

Bitcoin is still going through lots of phases of doubt. With only a decade of experience, any circumstance brings in a mixture of FUD and FOMO. Halving, war, pandemic, recession, elections, gold price soaring etc. Be it whatever event you wish, people still do not know what to do about Bitcoin during certain events. That shows how young this market is. Look a minute through the Bitcoin Discussion and Speculation boards and see for yourself how many are in doubt. Questions like "What happens after the third halving?", "Does BTC price follow gold's?", "Would Bitcoin rise during a pandemic?" etc are exactly what I mean. Doubt.

I think the focus is spreading out too many ways at the moment in the market. We're switching focus from Bitcoin to scams like X10, then when Bitcoin soars we're switching back to where we were before. Too many markets, too many coins, too many scams. We need a cleanup and a start-over. There's absolutely 0 utility in having a total of 3k coins & tokens with different features if they're all on different exchanges, some with close to 0 volume. These need to go away, too many have learned that cryptocurrency means joining bounties and supporting shitcoins to get rich.

BTC might be open-source and all, but that does not equal continuous revolutionary updates. I think just the fact that you can cross borders with a billion dollar in your pocket sitting inside the code written with your own hands on a piece of paper is mindblowing and revolutionary enough. Then we have the entire Blockchain structure and all. It was revolutionary enough to bring big names in the game. But it's still too early to know if BTC actually has the future Satoshi envisioned or not. We need to go through a few phases, like @gentlemand said.

I do get your point OP, and the more the price soars, the higher the fees will probably be, right? If we had a $100k price per BTC like many speculate, that turns the fees you've mentioned in the OP into +$2. That's 200% fees for a $1 transaction and remember, the higher the price is, the less a dollar is worth in BTC. So we're looking at a price of 1000sats for $1. Think about $1M/BTC and that turns your fee into a whopping $20. This is where my suggestion comes in, one that I have mentioned in a post from a few days ago: adding more digits to BTC (like ETH) so the fees would be pushed back by a few digits. I might say nonsense right now but wouldn't this be possible through a BTC update or second layer? Nobody's answered me on the other thread so I'm reviving the same idea now.

Not going to accuse them of anything, but.. A very quick google search resulted in this:
https://www.hellopeter.com/coindirect (1.95 stars out of 5.00)
https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.coindirect.com (1.9 stars out of 5.0)

And then the Google Play app has an average of 2.9 stars out of 5.0...

The first thing you should do before using a service/platform is check what the community's voice sounds like.

And I wonder how he became a millionaire..  Grin

Unfortunately, you've fallen into a scam trap. There's no such thing as "generating 20 satoshis/sec". The only thing close to that is Cloud Mining, which is a scam itself.

The only thing you can do is report him to the authorities.. Did you sign any agreement or something? If not, that was a silly move to send 20k CHF to a complete stranger who claims to be a millionaire and could multiply your money. If he had the ability to generate 0.5BTC/month, he wouldn't take $400 from you to do it. He'd reinvest every time and generate a sh*tload of Bitcoin, which sounds too good to be true.. well, it is.

Mining goes like this: you buy mining equipment, and you use electricity to mine cryptocurrencies with it. Depending on what equipment you own, how much a kWh costs in your region and a few other factors, you will be able to approximately calculate whether you'll make a profit off that or not. Cloud Mining or Bitcoin generating from $400 to $4500 in a month is 1100% profit. Nobody would do that task for you..

Take more care, my man. Our world is full of crap and scams, you gotta avoid them.

Re: Bitcoin halving.
by
d.kevin29

Halving is supposed to be for the limitation of mining rewards. This is the same with the actual mining of precious metals and stones. The longer the mining is being done, the scarcer the reward goes because there is only limited resources. Just like Bitcoin, there are limited number of Bitcoins to be mined. Due to this, the value will also grow because of scarcity. This is in theory. In reality, the price is still determined by the public.

You're right, but you're missing one thing: Bitcoin's max number of coins to ever exist is known. Gold and silver's is not. Maybe one day a huge lot of precious metals will be found under the ground.. the same thing cannot happen to Bitcoin. When 21M coins are going to be mined, nobody will ever be able to recreate another new Bitcoin. Gold might be recreated in the labs one day through science, Bitcoin can't be. I do agree the price is determined by the public though, and I wonder what would the price be if whales were not into the game.

Putting "bitcasino scam" into google could have avoided the hassle! Smiley

Putting "bitcasino scam" into google leads to your game-protect scam.

OP, nice try. Trying to accuse someone of scams when you've in fact done not one, not two but at least three double-spending scam attempts. Looking at the Trust on your profile is sad. You've even given your own alt trust calling out the "nice double spend" crap you're doing.

Re: Forum Ban

What can I say, it doesn't even look like you're scared of a ban you might get for something you did/are going to do..  Roll Eyes

I don't like harsh punishes, but I don't like this forum being mocked either so I'm oscillating between whether a temp-ban before a perma-ban is a good idea or not. Most threads about ban appeals are started by people acting innocent when, in fact, they know they did not respect the rules of the forum.

The only reason I'd prefer having a temp-ban before a perma one on this forum is due to the fact that there might really be a few users being banned for something they did not intend to do. A change is possible, but it rarely happens. However, when I see ban evasions, I wish these users had an IP ban of the forum just so they could learn their lesson. Seeing users avoiding bans is disgusting and shall be punished as deserved.

If you need reviews asap, post this on services sections and pay them 1 mbtc or so. Not sure if anybody is going to give a try and risking their phone with a new app for free.

Yeah, need reviews for a new app nobody would trust to try? Pay some people to review it so others could blindly trust your app based off the paid reviews. How is that going to help in any way..?  Roll Eyes

Re: Bitcoin halving.

I suspect that a lot of people who invested money into crypto around the end of 2017 will have probably cashed out already.

It takes some strong hands to hodl from those highs. That said, anyone who already sold may have already bought back in to try recoup their losses.

All my friends who've bought in late 2017 haven't sold their BTC, nor have they bought more. I wonder how many of these many addresses holding since 2017 have had any BTC received since then.

I think holding happens more often than selling when a price crash occurs. My friends' mentality is "I'll wait until the price rebounds to an ATH to recover my loss", rather than "Let's buy more to lower the average BTC price I invested at". Remember, many of the late 2017 investors have put their money in BTC hoping to get rich overnight. Unless you sell, you still haven't lost anything basically. You still own the same amount of BTC. This is speaking from my real life experience though, anyone else's could be different..

Re: How find links in bitcointalk in an easiest way

I rarely go through my phone's Notes app. I think the best and most comfortable way to organize them is by bookmarking links. You're on your browser anyway, so why bother creating notes and having to switch between apps when you can have a folder with all the links you need right inside the app you're using to browse BTCTalk?

Re: BTC could reach 6 figures (rational explanation)
by
d.kevin29
on 28/01/2020, 07:39:39 UTC
50 years later if BTC still lives, it may be 6 figures. I'd be long buried by that time. But the moment the price hit 6 figures, it will eventually plunge because most of us are just going to take profit til the market recovers again. The bear market will take place for long years again. I really do hope 6 figures will come to realize, I wanna buy myself a helicopter too like Kobe Bryant.

That's a very long target. If it takes 50 years for Bitcoin to get to $100k+, that means we're going to see a very powerful resistance in the market so I doubt it.

We're probably going to see it sooner than you expect. Especially with today's global debt and inflation.

It truly depends on the way markets develop. We cannot have a $2T market cap if the number of investors and holders doesn't continue to grow.

Re: Bitcoin transaction dispute
by
d.kevin29
on 28/01/2020, 07:27:46 UTC
The transaction now has enough confirmations to consider it confirmed 100%.

You've sent BTC to an address that exists, so there's no room for the "you've sent it to the wrong address" excuse. The address you have indicated (12xYef9W528E1LqTRyjejFWWackwGEz6p4) has had a total of 1.72508121 BTC received, out of which 0.00816938 BTC (~$75) was received yesterday. This is the only funds the address has not spent yet, and that means the money is still sitting there.

Even if the address was empty and had 0 BTC in it, if it's the address he indicated then it's not your fault. He either has a wallet out of sync, is lying to make you send him another $75 or might've been subject of a phishing scam (clipboard virus) if he copied his address from PC and it's infected with such malware.

Anyhow, if your client said "12xYef9W528E1LqTRyjejFWWackwGEz6p4" is the right address, you have done your job the right way and have nothing else you can do except showing him the txid.

It's been probably more than a decade since I learned not to use an antivirus software anymore. With AdBlocker and enough care when clicking on a link or when downloading/installing anything, you can stay away from the threats of online malware.

Internet is a creepy place. I always double or triple-check any link or file before opening them, just to make sure nothing is about to happen..

I'm going for two scenarios: Bitcoin will either go through the same cycle it went in 2016 & 2012 or this time would be different.

I believe there might be a difference due to the wave of new investors. We've got +1M addresses still holding their coins... so when the next cycle comes, these address might become active. If they do, it'll probably be a huge selloff from those who invested @20k.

On the other side, it could go through the past cycles which means a parabolic price increase followed by a bear market for a long term.. I'm ready for both scenarios anyway. I'll just accumulate alts & BTC and be ready to ride the next cycle the right way. Grin

I have seen more connected profiles, i just didn't have enough time to dig further... Looks like you don't belong here.

To save you some time, mainconcept has done a research a few months ago.

plusworknet, plusworknet1, oleksiii777, BryanK, cryptomaniya, BryanK12.. how many new accounts are you going to create and how many times will you ask the same question?

EDIT: looks like these aren't the only accounts. Cydrick was registered on a bounty spreadsheet using the same Telegram account (@cryptobigbog) as OP's. The more you dig into it, the more accounts you find apparently...

EDIT 2: Oh, God  Shocked
We have another finding! Wenwen.. using the same telegram username..

Oh wait, do we have another account here?

If a new account asking you to go first on a transaction isn't sketchy enough, then you (speaking generally, not to you OP) are silly. This is common sense: don't trust a complete stranger. It becomes even worse when someone trusts a stranger nobody else around knows either. And knowing the Bitcoin transactions are irreversible.. what could go wrong, right?

Thanks guys! The learnmeabitcoin.com tool is exactly what I was looking for.

For some reason I can't load walletexplorer.com at the moment but I'll try again later.

WalletExplorer has been loading & working pretty slow most of the times during my last few tries too. I get the results I need, but I have to wait a few minutes for pages to finish loading up. With a bit of patience, you'll do it.. unless there are a ton of addresses you wish to link.

Middle men do NOT provide protection to both sides. Nothing is stopping a person in the middle holding money to run off with $500-$2500 are you guys seriously that naive?

I said trusted middlemen, as in those with the best reputation on here.

"I can even accept MM for first few orders as my capital is low atm" Just to build my trust for now.

Depends how much it is, say if you send $100 in BTC
You would get $90 after my fee
Then minus 2.5% + $5 WU fee
You would receive total $80+/- $1/2

Got it. TIL "MM" stands for middleman
I'd recommend using escrow/middleman not just for the first trades though. Reason being a trusted middleman eliminates the possibility of scams from both sides.

Just wondering though, why does your other offer (fiat => crypto) have a smaller premium of 6%?

I don't think anyone would be interested in going first on a trade with a Newbie here. Even some trusted traders cannot convince their customers to go first without an escrow, it's logical thinking.

Sounds cool, but how are you going to ensure me this works both sides (I deposit BTC and receive the fiat) and not just one-sided (I deposit BTC and nothing comes back in return)? I'm sure you wouldn't trust me if I was to ask you to go first.. Roll Eyes
