Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy Opt-in?
by

Possibly some errors occured in Opt-in or later ... ?

https://forum.nem.io/t/symbol-opt-in-when-should-i-expect-to-see-xym-in-my-wallet/29061/25

Was there some XEM limit for Opt-in accounts?   E.g. if the account  had too few XEMs, then for it is not created the XYM-account?

Hopefully there is not anything "fundamentally" wrong ...  it should have been quite straightforward after the Symbol-accounts were defined.
E.g. in February I found my XYM-account from the account explorer with the importance 0.017282 % and everything seemed to be ok.

Now I cannot acces that XYM-address in the XYM-wallet, tho gave the correct mnemomic.
And the account is not found from the http://explorer.symbolblockchain.io/accounts/NCEW6I*  ... just saying "This account does not have a public key yet".

Was there some XEM limit for Opt-in accounts?   E.g. if the account  had too few XEMs, then for it is not created the XYM-account?
(Before the snapshot I moved most of account's XEMs away, coz had unidentified problems with Win10 and the XYM-wallet)

Edit: if there has happened some error, then here is one guess/solution: the reason was in the loop, where some items were removed/skipped Smiley
As a reward I could receive the silver coin fund's content Wink

I hope You didn't move Your xem before the snapshot happened? It needed to be in Your opt-in account at the time of the snapshot! I think the minimum was 100 xem, so if You didn't have at least 100, the account was not recorded in the snapshot.

Grin  Ah OK I see now.  The official Xem wallet is available on their site nem.io too, but it looks like nemplatform is Xem and NemTech is for Symbol

NemProject I'm not sure of.  I think its an older repository of the core team from before Symbol was started, but they are mainly active on the nemtech repo.
But latest wallet release here https://nemplatform.com/wallets/#desktop is from NemProject:

NemTech is the core team developing symbol core systems.
nem group limited is the current nem community leadership body.  They replaced the defunct Nem Foundation, have community funds to spend on development.  They are in charge of what will be the official symbol wallet.

What were the relatively massive volumes about a month to 3 weeks ago all about?

I read that volume spike on CMC was a volume reporting glitch from OkEX and not accurate.

I noticed the Bittrex wallet maintenance as well since Nov 28.  Their FAQs suggest blockchain upgrades are one of the main reasons this happens. https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000233911-What-does-it-mean-when-a-wallet-is-in-maintenance-  They will need to upgrade their xem wallet, so let's hope they get around to it soon.  Usually wallets will be frozen like this for a while.  I just hope they are preparing to announce opt in support!

From the final development contract notice dated March 31st 2015 (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_0Z9jDGHPxPbndmbm96eW1XaEk/view)

2.1.2 Silver Coins for Distribution to Initial Stakeholders

Based on community consensus, physical silver coins will be minted and distributed
to initial NEM stakeholders .

The silver coins shall be distributed as an asset (colored coin), effectively giving all
initial stakeholders a parallel, silver-backed digital currency that shall reside on the
NEM blockchain. To claim one physical silver coin, one whole silver coin asset is
needed.
Note: The execution of the silver coin project is not guaranteed and will only proceed
providing that XEM market cap and liquidity are sufficient to cover the expenses with
the allocated stakes. If this condition is met, all initial stakeholders will be issued
their silver coin asset. If the allocated stakes do not reach a high enough value to
fund the project (to pay the mint and cover all costs [shipping costs etc.]) until V1 is
released, the complete fund will be transferred to the community fund. "A high
enough value" can not be exactly fixed at this time, but to get a feeling: it is
estimated that the fund should reach at least USD 260,000 to be successful.

There are 211,885,446.63 XEM in the Silver Coins for Distribution to Stakeholders - - Dev-Fund

Even at today's price that is worth approx $7.5M (more than the $260K noted above).

If this was distributed to the original stake holders, they would get a few thousand dollars worth of coins each.

I hadn't read this, or perhaps I just forgot.  Honestly a physical silver coin shipped to remaining original stakeholders with access to their accounts is logistically messy.  As much as it would be great to just split up the xem and send send it to original stake accounts,  it seems like adding the silver fund to the community fund is inevitable.

Do I have to have XEM coins in personal wallet to receive same amount of new SYM coins? or can I just stay on the online exchange and receive the new SYM coins?

I think it would be a good idea to have Your coins in a personal wallet.  Then You can choose to opt in early or wait until later.  No exchanges have said they will do the swap for their customers, and since it is opt in it will be very complicated for them to do so.

Again the question: Is there already a planned fork date or is it still under discussion?

There is not a date set yet.

Hi guys,

im not continously following this project but i just saw that there is a swap? or fork?
Is there a source where i can followup in laymens terms? the announcement on the website is quite confusing.
Thanks in advance for tips!

It is being debated how it will exactly work and not a final plan yet.  The FAQ on their forum is probably the clearest
...

This discussion shows once again, what is missing from the clarity of defining processes and procedures - in NEM and also in other cryptos.
Are the all blinded by the "distributed processes" Smiley  and they like that the information is thrown to many different places.
No, that distribution is the wrong solution here - the information must be "centralized".

In this Topic's (NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs) first post should be a clear link to the main information of the Catapult and all these NEM related issues.
Now there is only the mention that "Its expected release is in 2019".

Also Catapult info must be in one page or even in one post, which is updated while the discussion goes on. Ofc not all the details cannot be updated to that, but such things, which are already decided or which are important issues and may affect to the decisions. (The feedback about NEM "redeeming" should have taught something)

Nightmare! Should all people be professional cryptographers to avoid losing their coins?
Have Your xem in Your own wallet when the snapshot is taken.  It seems simple enough.  I agree that whoever is in charge of this thread needs to update the title post to keep people informed!  It isn't very active here at all lately, but it's a good chance some xem holders come here for updates.

It is being debated how it will exactly work and not a final plan yet.  The FAQ on their forum is probably the clearest.  Basically when Catapult is released, they take a snapshot of all nem1 wallets, and those wallets can opt in to redeem that amount of Catapult.  You can either pre-opt in to get them right at the initial release, or redeem them at a later time.
Did You check out the Catapult Migration FAQ at the forum site? support.nem.help/hc/en-us/sections/360007012931-Catapult-Migration-FAQ
It's not totally clear but hopefully helps a little.

Is there any news on the long overdue silver coin for initial nem stakeholders?

It's been 5 years ...

The priority should be getting Catapult out and people developing and using it.  I don't think it's overdue but it has been a wait.  The silver fund is still there, and Yes, it would be great if after it is released that plans for the fund get disseminated to the stakeholders could be realized.

I just updated my wallet to v 2.4.4 and I'd like to use the wallet I have in local storage. However I am not sure where it is stored. Can someone please advise?

I will try to post a support request on the NEM forum as well, but this is what I can do right now.

The easiest way is this if You still have the previous version.
Open the old version and backup/export your wallet .wlt file from there. Then You can import into the new one.

The auto update/installer for java only gives you 32 bit.
The only way to be sure is to go to the oracle manual download sight and download the 64 bit version to install.

lol at overstock!

I think the finals poll is a great idea.  Mainly because I'm still very torn between which I like better!  Obviously those were the main contenders from the other poll.
How long is the polling period to be?  It would be good to get as many votes as possible to reach a consensus, but some probably don't really care that much.
