Problem persists, even when I re-open Electrum 5 times, it always stays offline. The internet connection is working fine, though. Anyone from the Electrum team willing to weigh in?

Thanks!

I can confirm this problem.

I had never used electrum before and tried a fresh installation on Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Electrum 1.9.5 and 1.9.6), and Xubuntu 12.04 (1.9.6), with two different internet connections.

Electrum always stays "not connected"...

Is there any problem with the auto-connect feature and/or the electrum servers?

Re: Can I print a wallet file in notepad as a backup?

Yes, you can print a .key file (Tools -> Export Private Keys).

If you want to restore the keys, re-type it (or scan/OCR it) and use Tools -> Import Private Keys. Take care never to store your keys only in one place (i.e. print twice and keep one in your flat and one at work or at a friend's you trust).

Yubikey does not offer additional security in this case. Hardware wallets such as Trezor (http://www.bitcointrezor.com/) will, however, when they become widely available next year.

BTW Jim if you read this - it occured to me that "reset blockchain" is somewhat misleading and sounds more dangerous than it really is.
What about renaming it to "reload blockchain"?

Not necessary! Reset blockchain only reloads the blockchain!

Of course, backup are always a good idea.  Wink

You can directly edit wallet.info in the multibit settings directory.

Or you just use the Bitcoin network to transfer the coins, which is more user-friendly...

Maybe you did not delete the Multibit settings directory? Which operating system are you using?

Re: Switching from Bitcoin-Qt: How can I import my wallet.dat?

Easy:
Just transfer the coins with bitcoin-qt to a new Multibit wallet (you can create several in the same MultiBit instance and keep them open at the same time).
This is the safest way to do it.

Hard:
Export each private key and import it into MultiBit. There is no automated procedure AFAIK.

Hi, I also get the "Signature fails!" message every time I try to change my settings. Does anyone else have this problem again?

My bad...it has been working all along. An error message such as "you are signing with the wrong address, idiot" would be nice though  Wink

I am using the standard QT wallet for this also.

EDIT: signature fails every time.

It looks like the bitcoind used to verify the signatures on the web server crashed for some reason last night.  Please try again!  Thanks.

Thanks for opening this thread.
However, judging from the low SNR of the main KnC thread I would suggest to close this thread and restart it as a self-moderated one before it is discovered by the trolls and people that post their ROI calculations for the 100th time, etc.

Re: sending BTC to myself?
by

This is the way Bitcoin works...actually there are no "accounts" in Bitcoin, only transactions.

When you send someone money you take a transaction output, or several, you control (from previous transactions) and make it the input of a new transaction. You have to use all of the previous transaction output. As the transaction output becoming the new input is often larger than the amount you want to send, the rest will be sent back to your addresss!

If you want the nitty-gritty details: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transactions

Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service
by
mjb
on 28/08/2013, 20:45:46 UTC
With ASICMINER today announcing blades for as low as 3.5BTC, it appeared that Avalon chips that do not mine today are not going to break even any more. While those blades went already out of stock after some hours, the new price for mining rig is officially set. Essentially this means that if Avalon does not ship the remaining chips fully within the next two weeks, they become worth less than their shipping costs.

After reading the above in another thread I would like to ask whether burnin could offer some kind of upgrade option for existing and paid Avalon orders to BitFury chips - in a way that he retains his well-deserved profit, of course.

It is really a pity that his excellent work is overshadowed by Bitsyncom's inability to keep its promises.

I have a question regarding the number of public keys that the blockchain has "seen":

Code:
select count(pubkey_id) from pubkey;
+------------------+
| count(pubkey_id) |
+------------------+
|         16794956 |
+------------------+
1 row in set (3 min 50.15 sec)

Is it really only 16.8 millions (as of a few days ago)? Or is there something wrong with my database?

Try Tools->Reset Blockchains and Transactions...

Are you really sure that 184TT1NuXdEFJXaJYg3XCgaW5aRWxCis3u is the address that is in the Multibit wallet?

Can you post a link to the transaction in question?

Did you check whether Multibit can connect/synchronise with the Bitcoin network? (state Online - synchronised with network in the status bar at the bottom)
