I'm kind of surprised I didn't see anyone mention gemini.com

I personally prefer it over coinbase because the fees are cheaper and you can do 30 withdraws a month for free.

Coinbase and there fees are TERRIBLE, though there is a way around it, I just don't like coinbase that much imo.

Re: [ANN][BCC] Bitconnect Coin - Decentralized Cryptocurrency
by

Interesting, all who bought @ 0.20-1$ and sold @ 200$+ also unhappy? people, this is crypto, look @ coinmarketcap, bitconnect from 0.12$ to 400$+ and people started talking that its a scam at begin,we have winners and losers, someone got lambo, someone bought him that lambo, thats all,you can write whereever you want, but if i got that coin @20 cent and sold it to YOU for 200$+ its your problems, not mine.

the problem is these kind of scams hurt crypto or other virtual currencies, that is what we want to prevent.

I hope this gets delisted, so all these whiners can forget and move on.

I understand, but would i see one who invested 200 000$ and got profit and cry here that its a scam? its like ,when you invest money and get profit, its fine, but when you loose its a scam,i see this with every ico, with every coin that bought by someone on price peak, even from those who bought bitcoin @20 000$+ now they cry . IF people do not understand how things work here, better dont put money here, but everyone wanna get easy cash in cryptoworld. I lost a lot of profit myself, but its how things work here for now.

No no no no and NO!

Not trying to be harsh, but that's not how "things work here for now".  Bitconnect was not a normal situation, bitconnect was a wolf in sheep's clothing and was a scam from the beginning even with all the profits people were making.

It was a true ponzi scheme.  Honestly anyone who didn't see that needs to freshen up on definitions of ponzi schemes.  The first/top people ALWAYS make money and make profit and try their best to bring in the next idiot.  As long as you're not the last person getting in and you've made profit then you "win".  Once the money dries up it's gone aka why Bitconnect shut down.  Heck I literally thought about throwing $100 of gamble money into myself at one time even though I KNEW it was a ponzi scheme because I felt there was enough dumb people out there to fall for it to keep it around for a year or two at least!  But not once would you ever see me promoting it.  I even stated that in multiple posts I've made around the net - I'd gamble with some small change for fun before it explodes, but I'll never promote it and risk losing my credibility (craig, trevon, cryptonick)

Oddly enough they gave out some stupid response of "why" they decided to shut down lol.  Ok well if you truly had a autobot bitcoin trader (which they never did) then you wouldn't have to shut down no matter what people complained about or if only 2 states gave you a cease and desist or a DDOS.  If you're making $$$$ you keep the company alive and FIGURE out how to pivot around the issues and move on.

But please don't put Bitconnect and normal cryptocurrencies will real world changing technologies in the same boat my friend.

Can anyone guide me on how to setup devices or deny devices in the .bat file?

I got a 1070 and a 970 on the same rig and want to run the 1070 with hsrminer and the 970 with another one.

Possible?  I assume it is....

Just wondering if I can focus on one device like d=0 and only run one card.

thanks!

PS - So far loving this new miner!  Added about 400 kh/s just by switching to this one!  Shocked Shocked Shocked

What is going on with Asch XAS?
by

on 06/09/2017, 19:03:54 UTC
So I browse coinmarketcap.com from time to time and just happened to look at Asch - XAS late last night.

I click on the social part and it says nothing for their tweet feed....odd

I see a post on this forum saying convo is closed: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1880303.800

Odd x 2 now...

I see a reddit post by the same user saying that's closed: https://www.reddit.com/r/AschPlatform/comments/6ydfx0/this_section_has_been_closed/

OK wtf...

Twitter account...GONE: https://twitter.com/Asch_Global

Now I posted this everywhere on the net asking people who are more in the know than I am and literally NOBODY is talking about it.

I've tweeted about it, talked about it on steemit, in discord...nothing.

Only thing someone came up with is the CHINA ICO issue and maybe they're trying to rebrand.

Asch by no means is "huge", but they're top 80 in market cap with over 50 million.

So what the literally heck is going on?

If anyone knows more please do tell!

Re: No "cash out" option on some pools
by

Some pools are willing to manually cash you out if requested, but a cash out button would allow others to cash you out anytime they felt like it since your stats page isn't private.  The only way it would be feasible is if the pool made you register and you had to log into your account to see your stats, then a cash out button wouldn't be a problem, however most people don't want to register like that.  Mining in a pool is basically completely anonymous.

hmm this kind of makes sense now because the only pools I've noticed this occurring on are pools that don't require a login/username.  Sooo basically if I ever stop using their pool I'm always "leaving coins on the table" but oh well....

No "cash out" option on some pools
by

on 17/07/2017, 06:18:56 UTC
I've noticed that some pools have a "cash out" option to pull your coins out at pretty much any amount and others don't.

It almost seems like the ones that don't have a cash out option keep you coming back to mine cause you're always wish you had what is left in the pool that you've already mined....

What am I missing here?

Re: Difficulty setting in config pros/cons
by

on 15/07/2017, 01:18:29 UTC
That difficulty is how big chunks of work are required by the pool. Higher difficulty means it takes longer for your miner to solve the job (find a share) and vice versa.

Both too low and too high difficulty is disadvantageous.

The difficulty of your shares are calculated accordingl to well, their difficulty which is what the pool reported hashrate is calculated from.

You'll probably want a difficulty that allows you to find a share between about every 10-30 seconds.

Most pools will override your defined difficulty setting as time goes on if it's set too high or too low so it mostly acts as a starting difficulty.

Not defining it will just mean the pool will give you the starting difficulty (which you can see when you start mining).

So in the end it almost sounds like no matter if you set a defined difficultly or let the pool decide it...it will EVENTUALLY find the "perfect" mining difficultly after x amount of time?

Difficulty setting in config pros/cons
by

on 13/07/2017, 16:24:50 UTC
Downloaded the ccminer the other day to mine an altcoin and opened up one of the configs/.bat file that came with it and noticed a "-p d=128" built into the command.

At the time I had no idea what that meant so I left it alone...but when I went into the pool stats I realized it was a set difficulty setting.  I deleted it out of the config/.bat file and now I'm mining at a much higher difficulty...

What are the benefits/cons of not having a set difficulty in your config?

Just curious if I should have left it alone or not...

Re: Wallets - Multiple Questions

But some wallets I couldn't find a "wallet.dat" file, for example the bytecoin wallet was, "bytecoinwallet.wallet"....so I'm assuming that's the same as the "wallet.dat" file correct?
This is not the section to ask about shitcoin wallets. This section is for Bitcoin related questions. Some Bitcoin wallets do not store theirs as a "wallet.dat" file.

Also, maybe a really dumb question, but I'm assuming the moment at which you backup your wallet.dat file isn't stuck in time at that moment with that exact amount of coins correct?
This is where many people are deeply confused. A Bitcoin wallet does not hold coins. A Bitcoin wallet is a collection of keypairs, thus it does not matter when you've backed the keys up.

Say I backup my wallet today and then put in another 10 coins into the wallet and don't back up the wallet.dat file again and my computer crashes, when I reinstall the new wallet on my computer and overwrite the wallet.dat file with the backed up one, does it show the new 10 coins or just the previous balance at the moment I backed up the file?
After you synchronize and rescan the wallet (both of which should be automatic with Bitcoin Core) all funds will show up. It is recommended to occasionally make newer backups though.

Sorry...I started the thread (my fist post/thread ever on the site) and said to move the thread if it wasn't started in the proper place.  Figured "other" would fit these types of questions.

Other than that, thanks for the clarification on the .dat file question.

ASIC usb miner - Worth it for coins OTHER than bitcoin?
by

on 04/07/2017, 17:52:39 UTC
Everywhere I read people act like it's too late to use USB miners to mine, but what if you just mined coins other than bitcoin that weren't that valuable now, but you feel might have potential down the road? (game credits, cure coin, etc.)

Yes it's a gamble, but wouldn't they be killing it in mining these cheap coins compared to cpu/gpu mining?  What am I missing here?

Anyone on the forum have real life experiences they could share?

Also...

1.  Can you mine any currency that doesn't have an ASIC resistant algo? (SHA-256, Scrypt, X11, Quark, Qubit, Etc.)

2.  Those of you who have bought and used the USB stick, does it seem worth it so far?

3.  Is it complicated to setup and get started?  ie - Does it need special drivers or a special miner to mine?  (If so could someone provide a link)

Simple answer.

1. Yes each wallet must be downloaded unless it has an online wallet. Never use an exchange as a wallet.

2. You will lose your coins if wallet.dat is deleted. Find wallet.dat here :

First search %appdata% hit enter.
Look for the coins name and open folder. A wallet.dat file will be there. Back it up !!
To restore your wallet or to change to another one simply replace the wallet.dat file.

3. Use this forum.

So I decided to take the dive and start backing up my wallets, but wanted to double check on a few things which tie specifically into the post above:

1.  Do I just need to backup the "wallet.dat" file or the whole folder that contains the wallet.dat file in my - %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\"coin name here"

2.  If I change the name of my wallet.dat will it corrupt the file.  For example, say I have like 5 different coins and 5 different wallet.dat files I wouldn't know what is what. (unless of course I make different folders that labeled the coin...yes I know it's a simple solution, but just wondering)  So if I changed them to say bitcoinwallet.bat & ethwallet.bat etc. etc. would those files still work?  OR could I do that, but have to just eventually change it to wallet.dat when I want to use it again?

3.  If I delete a wallet, then reinstall a wallet, do I just need to go into this folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\"coin name here" and just replace/overwrite the "wallet.dat" file once the new wallet is done syncing with the network?

I figured I'd start with a wallet that has a small amount in it so in case I screwed something up I wouldn't lose much.

**First post - Please move this post to the correct section if I posted in the wrong place**

I'm confused by the wallets and feel like I've found mixed answers around the web so I figured I would try my luck here.

  • Do I need to download a wallet for EACH currency I own/mine or is there an a downloadable wallet that holds multiple currencies?
  • If I delete a wallet from my hard drive do I lose all my coins or can I just re-download the wallet and get access to my coins as long as I have the address/password saved for the previous wallet?
  • Is there another good site/forum/place that would go into more details about wallets in general?

Thanks and sorry if there is a post here that already addresses the issues/questions...I just couldn't find it.

1. There are different kinds of wallets with different kinds of features. If you wanted a wallet that holds multiple currencies, try jaxx (not saying its the best though):
Android | iOS | OSX | Windows | Linux

2. You lose your coins if  you don't have a backup (using recovery phrases, private keys, etc). Make sure to back em up before storing your crypto.

3. This post explained it decently.

Gotcha!  Thanks for the help mjglqw!

I understand that you use a wallet online. Then what does it mean to download a wallet on your computer. Your wallet is on the website and your hard disk does not have this wallet is irrelevant. Knowing the password you always will go into it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can download the wallet to your hard drive and synchronize it (which takes forever usually lol) This type of wallet is what I'm worried about losing the data on.

Reason being, I downloaded 5 different wallets for 5 different currencies, but I'm about to reformat the computer.  So does that mean:

A - I need to back up all the wallet data on a usb and then put it back on the computer once it's reformatted
B - I could just save the addresses/passwords for each wallet and clean reformat my computer then re-download the wallets and be good?

I know there online sites like that have wallet options, but I feel like it's mixed emotions when it comes to long term holding of coins in an online wallet.

Does that make sense or no?

Depends on wallet you are using. Best are wallets which gives you seed from which you can make full recovery  (deterministic wallets)... then the only need is to store this seed.
So if you are using deterministic wallet (most of them are) ... just keep the copy of seed. Other cases you have to locate and store the wallet file( do not forget pass or make unecrypted backup).

ahhh ok!  I'll start to look up deterministic wallets and compare the wallets I currently use to see what they are.  Thanks I appreciate the help!
