What's the point of using a third party for LN deposits? Isn't it against the philosophy of LN and even Bitcoin?

Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented
by

the point was that common output sizes are just that---common on the network.

By "common chip sizes", I mean they're common to CM (ChipMixer). For Non-CM transactions, chip sizes are not common at all. That's why what they say in their FAQ won't work. CM actually realizes this in their FAQ too by saying "After a while [chip sizes] will get more common", but it's unlikely to get common because the chip sizes are not round numbers.

For non-CM transactions with CM chip sizes to become common (the scenerio in their FAQ), other services/people need to use CM-sized chips without using CM. So CM maybe assumes people themselves split coins in their own wallets to CM chip sizes (That's how I understan what they mean in FAQ)

any examples of that actually happening?
I'm not aware of CM-specific examples, but it's common for many mixers and exchanges,

BTW, I agree Wasabi creates a more obvious TX, but what I've been trying to prove is CM usage is also clear, even though less obvious at first glance. I wanted to warn users that they should treat CM coins dirty by default (like all mixers)

Thanks for replying.  Wink

the on-chain footprint of coinjoins is much more obvious. blockchain analysis heuristics based purely on common output sizes are unlikely to be very useful.

Not only the output amount. How ChipMixer creates the chips follows certain patterns, you need to emulate the patterns too. Just splitting your coins into ChipMixer's chip sizes in your own wallet won't help against analysis like the FAQ claims. It can only fool stupid analysis tools.

There are more problems. Many users sweep different chip sizes in single TX making it even more obvious. Even if none of these worked, then chips will lead to someone's tainted coins and will raise alarms at the exchange etc.

The smallest denomination that can be mixed via ChipMixer is 0.001 BTC, compared with (currently) >0.094 BTC via Wasabi. Both have their use cases, along with Joinmarket.

Good point, I skipped that. Sorry.

Wasabi is a fine idea in principle but refer to that binance Singapore event.

Though they obviously couldn't tell where the original coins came from they could instantly tell they had come from a wasabi mix so gave them the boot.

Mixing with a flashing sign that you've just mixed is not a useful look going forward.

I didn't know that Binance issue, Google'd and learned, thanks for letting me know. Yes, Wasabi transactions is obvious, but it's also easy to tell if you used ChipMixer, because of the common chip sizes. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Some cons and pros of both:

ChipMixer
Pros:
* Low min amount
* Fast and simple, no learning curve
* Run on all (Tor) web browsers, even on low-end PCs, no download
Cons:
* Trust required for funds, and not keeping logs

Wasabi
Pros:
* No trust required
Cons:
* Min high amount
* Learning curve, confusing for beginners
* Download required & doesnt't run on 32-bit systems

I now realize both have their use cases, I don't know why I made that overstatement.

@kufarrr and others, please read this, if you haven't already:

I don't see any reason why we should use ChipMixer or any other mixers when there is Wasabi Wallet. These mixers should die honestly. Plus, you can get a dirty UTXO from ChipMixer, the process how they refill their chips is not clear.

hi orcun, thanks for your thoughts. No one said this was going to be easy!

We agree that having good technical product is just the first step in building an exchange. Bootstrapping liquidity is the critical challenge for us. We can't wait to get launched.

Thank you for the replying.. I hope you succeed and save us from bookies robbing us with their odds Grin. just wanted to mention the challenges, good to know your aware of them.. I am sad to miss beta, also can't wait

I still think it will fail but let's hope a miracle happens..

We believe in miracles  Cool

Here's a screenshot of the current home page - we've been working hard since beta, responding to feedback. Site looks even better now... and the UX has gone up a level as well.

https://i.imgur.com/3EHNHKI.png

We are feeding in events from last autumn (in the absence of live events). Looks like our market maker bot thinks it can get away with lazy pricing, just cos it's Easter weekend  Grin

If Covid-19 delays launch much longer we'll have to do a second beta (a beta beta??)

Interface is really slick.. Few questions if u don't mind

1.Will we have a clear guarantee market makers won't reject successfull bettor's orders or you won't close account of bettors who beat them? (heard it happening a lot non-Betfair fiat exchanges)

2.if there is not enough volume, you will ever trade in your own markets? (since you talked about your market maker bot)

3.Last, are you afraid of degens.com adding BTC and compete with you?  Grin They have Betfair like interface. (Sorry if this question sounds weird, but i'm a regular bettor there )

sorry if they are too early to ask and thanks in advance..

I'm not sure about your experience but whenever I reach them out, they always are replying as soon as possible but it's not that forever and it's taking less than an hour. I think that's already the longest time that I've waited for them to reply.
Yep, the volume for games aren't that much and you can find some more or a better place if you want to but I think they're all good. However, if you think they don't pass on your taste, look for another one.

Its not about passing and going to another site.. I contacted their support, agent keeps saying "how can i help?" even after I asked the question. In one case he replied 9,5 hours later!.. And his reply didn't even answer the question.. In another case they replied 4 hours later. If agent is offline, support chat shouldn't show on site. SIMPLE. after trying to talk for 4th time, I insulted and quit, never to visit again.

Removed the insult from my original post even though they deserve it, won't even lower mywself to their level

⭐ Merited by exbet.io (1)
Exbet will fail. PERIOD.

Betbtc was a BTC bet exchange for 4,5 YEARS!.. They had everything, Betfair interface, good odds and API.. it had shit liquidity and in the end became (had to become) a sportsbook..

Fairlay the biggest BTC exchange has shit liquidity too. You may say because of its interface but why did Betbtc fail then? Exbet got excited for nothing..

BTC BET EXCHANGE business has no market except for a small number of players which will be banned by market makers, thats what happened in fiat exchanges except maybe Betfair..

I wanna try Onehash for the 1st time. Because am bored of normal books.  Grin But I don't understand mutual betting much.

My question is, what if I bet and there is no one on the other side and that side wins? Will I lose my bet?  Huh

Thanks.

Sad to miss the beta

Hope it succeeds , but think exbet.io will fail like other bet exchanges failed. Betbtc had no volume (even with Betfair design). It still failed and became a normal sportsbook. Many more examples, even in fiat bet exchanges. In the end, even if exbet gets the volume, exbet will turn to something  which will cancel bets who beat their market makers.

people kept saying they miss direcbet, and dbet opened. they complained about odds a bit, then this thread became dead, i don't know why. it was dead before corona too. this thread should be at least 100 pages by now.

i think dbet needs a sig campaign after the coronavirus.

Too many red flags about this casino, everyone should stay away! Plus, he posted above the IP addresses of some users.

Probably run by a teenager in a dark basement.
