Does anyone have a working node?  I have followed all the steps to get my my wallet online, but I can't get it working.

I've added a blitz.conf with up to date peer list, but I am getting zero connections. Any tips on getting some connectivity?

seems like since bitmain got into x11 a bunch of x11 coins have come out to soak up the spill over ASIC power.  Whats the point of a "joke" coin?

What are the features of this coin? I don't see the point to it. Just a x11 fork of bitcoin? Or what was the original codebase dash?

Re: Why I'm selling all my alt coins and putting everything into Golos
by
solarrobot
on 29/09/2017, 06:23:00 UTC
Golos is an unregistered security that was sold to some USA and EU investors illegally and it will eventually be delisted like all the other ICOs including Ethereum.

Investors are risking legal and criminal culpability for illegal selling on unregistered exchanges.

Study the facts.

Crackdowns are coming eventually. China just the first salvo of what is coming from regulators in major nations.

Steem started dropping when the Poloniex wallet got disabled for "maintenance". That was 2 months ago, and I think when a lot of people realised they couldn't withdraw their Steem from Poloniex, they sold it for bitcoin, which they could withdraw. And the Steem price hasn't really recovered, because the wallet on Poloniex hasn't been re-opened.

It's a shame when exchanges mess with coins like that.

That’s an example of what is going to happen to all ICO issued tokens when the delistings come forth.

And STEEM is still trading on Blocktrades and Bittrex, so imagine the utter collapse towards 0 of the STEEM price if it had been delisted from every significant exchange.

Everybody going to get plenty of warnings but they will ignore the warnings of course.

Lol, the SEC isn't going to make ETH illegal. Have you seen the ETH enterprise alliance? some of the biggest company's in the world are behind ethereum (microsoft, jp morgan just to name a few).

A bunch of decentralized exchange projects are coming out too, i think you underestimate the adaptability of this tech.

New ICO's will definitely be scrutinized, but only if they aren't done right. This whole china scare is a good thing. Gotta reign in some of the bullshit projects there are sooo many.

Re: Please share your EXIT strategy...
by
solarrobot
on 29/09/2017, 06:14:24 UTC
Just have to set some stages to take some profit.  Set a percentage. for every 10% increase, sell 3% of your holdings.  If you keep it at a low percentage, you will always hold a significant chunk even if the price goes way up.

If you want to spend some more energy, you can do a little bit of long term trading this way. Split the takings into profit and then a "short/re-invest" pool.  When the price goes down put some of that money back into the same project  or if you find a new project you want to invest in, put it in that (but save it for an overall bear market).

this way your exit strategy is built in, automatic, you don't have to wonder if you are doing the right thing.

Is there discussion around the parameters that the main feature of this coin plans on addressing?  How will the network define "social or tech" projects. So vague, if it's a real goal what is the plan around this? What are the incentives for people to use a charity coin, there has to be an angle that has some real efficiency in it.

1. Checkpoints updated (check)
2. Minor fixes?? It's a single line change. Who knows how this affects PoW, which could mean more coins mined.

And that's it.

Don't try digging DeepOnion out of its grave.

Oh yeah, their "DeepSend" feature is late. STILL waiting to see it! hahaha.

Deepsend has always been q4 or the roadmap. Listen, I'm not saying alarm bells shouldn't be ringing, and people shouldn't be cautious, or demand better updates from developers, but until someone runs away with the money it's not a scam. Lots of projects work in private repo's until they have something substantial to update.  I appreciate you looking into the code though, and i don't think this thread is bad, i just think that non of the evidence is hard evidence of anything, and the project has kept to it's word so far.

I think it would be cool if there were an airdrop to other alts to spark interest (one time)

Maybe Bitshares, LSK, other ones with public chains.

I think this is a good idea. Biggest mistake is to limit airdrop to one network. If the point of the airdrop is to spread awareness and create a well spread distribution, many networks is the way to go!

links on op updated, deeponion.network explorer didn't work any longer.

Guys if you wanna know what's happening to the DeepOnion Price.

It's pretty much the same as https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/torcoin-tor/

Over time, of course, it will go to $0.0x and $0.00x

No value, it's just a 'dev' enrichment process, that's all it is

Block explorer is working. In fact they have two.
I get why some people think DO is a scam, but most of the development has been happening with the forum, and in some ways the community building is really quite impressive. So far the development team has lived up to everything they've put on the roadmap, and all of the funds are transparent, developer addresses all that. People saying that devs have 100's of scam accounts are just trolling, there are only 250 people on the airdrop.

It is kind of an oppressive regime, but they run a tight ship in that regard.   If Development doesn't come forward in Q4 like on the roadmap then that will be the end for sure.

Scam though? If it is it is quite elaborate, and if it is, it's more of a sadistic trap than a scam.  People work hard for DO, if developers pull through then it will be an awesome coin. If they don't it will be a very sad community, but maybe some one could just fork the project, and fork the community and make a real working network!

Time will tell, for now there is no proof of scam, and i've looked around a lot.

Re: EOS ICO SCAM 👺👺👺 Wow! Can you believe this? 👺👺👺

2. 1 year long ICO to collect a significant percentage of the entire ETH supply. Nobody would ever need this much money to create the platform. Astronomically more money is being raised than would ever be required. First day (of 350 more days) only: $181,295,950 (ico address here, also note the ETH that has already been moved out)

entire ecosystem suffers because of this

This is true, I do think that the start of the EOS sale marked the start of the bear market. I think they did sell a shit ton of their ETH immediately.  As the price continues to drop however, i'm less concerned. At this point it doesn't seem like they are going to be getting the $1b that it looked like in the beginning. Still think EOS will be a successful project though, maybe in the future the ICO for the project will seem reasonable.

How does waves compare to bitshares? I guess i should just download waves and see. But it sounds like Waves and bitshares are very similar.  I've used bitshares some, not a huge fan, but it works alright. Are there any real advantages of waves over bitshares besides marketshare?

You won't get a response.  They have a 15 year old fanboy on here who buries posts and thats about it.  I'm too poor to have the exposure some of the dudes on the last few pages have and thank Christ for that.  I think the one dude lost over five BTC and nothing but snark from LBC?  Wow...

There's literally no excuse for them to have "Trump Bombs Syria" in the current events feed on their webpage, and they know that, so they dodge and blame "typical BCT users" for their glaring failures.

Gotta agree with you on this one. The platform shouldn't try to be netflix first of all, and especially if they aren't going to do any work to implement it or even curate it that tiniest bit.  They would do much better off with a simple database of tagged content, and just encourage good tagging...

Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments

Bytcoin is an exciting project to me, minus some of the distribution concerns, but i'm a crytpo nerd, i eat this stuff for breakfast.

Can anyone explain to me why someone who doesn't use cryptocurrencies would start using byteball over the far more established projects out there?  The chat format is nice, but a chat program isn't really a draw without the network effect already in place. Who wants to convince their friends to use a new chat program.

Maybe bytecoin should team up with signal, an encrypted chat project which is open source. A kind of partnership with an established network if there could be a way to fuse the two could be a game changer.

? Byteball is the only DAG crypto aimed solely at payments.  It's in it's own lane and doesn't have to compete with anyone.  It just needs better marketing as most people do not even know it exists.

Byteball doesn't need to partner with any chat project imo.  You can already send encrypted messages with your payments I think.  With a few tweaks, Byteball will have it's own capabilities in the future for messaging.  I'm sure Tony already has this in the works.

The only things  hindering Byteball as of now is the dumping from the whales due to initial distribution, and the lack of marketing.  These problems will be fixed or dampered as we move towards the end of the airdrop.

I mean being a DAG crypto is interesting, and has it's efficiencies but a closed system currency needs the network effect to be useful at all.  What is going to bring the network effect to Byteball? So far it's been the airdrop + the tech is new.   I buy real things with bitcoin, i pay real people real money with ethereum. Those are useful to others though for a variety of reasons that byteball is lacking.  Not any different than any other minor alt coin... but if it's going to beat the rest, it is going to need more than just a different network structure.  The bots are cool, seems like that is a place for major growth. I was just suggesting that to partner with a system outside of crypto that shares open source attitudes that would bring utility to both could be really cool, and really expand what is possible.  No reason to reinvent the wheel for every feature.

Re: Why I'm selling all my alt coins and putting everything into Golos

225 isn't bad, especially since it's been a bear market. Glad it's worked out for you Smiley

Steem in general is a slow economy.  I think it is expensive to run, or at least witnesses get paid a LOT.  It's code heavy, so things break and don't work, so a lot of resources go to keeping it working. I don't think Golos will be any different in the long run. Maybe it will really take off, but it's got an extra level of exit schemes for people who are just gaming the system.  That combined with developers not able to keep wallet's stable (wallets are offline regularly across exchanges).

I still hope steem (and golos) prove themselves, if not it will probably happen on EOS. I really hope that steem can port itself to EOS when it comes out. Being connected to a broader ecosystem will be so important to it.

Re: Zsnark in Ethereum - implications for Monero Dash etc
by
solarrobot
on 21/09/2017, 23:58:17 UTC

zksnark in Ethereum is just an option. In Monero it is specialisation.

If I would need some sort of privacy I definetly will use Monero instead of other coins.

Also I still confused about possible backdoor in Zcash and zkSNARK technology

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2011221.0

Especialy after dark markets was busted by feds shortly after adding Zcash as payment method. Coincedent? I am doubt peoples who seriously worry about their privacy will use something like this after all being said.

ZKsnarks are a type of cryptographic proof. you can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-interactive_zero-knowledge_proof  The backdoor in zCash might exist in more than one place, but I think the major one that people wonder about is the setup seed, which is talked about in the link. I guess the same question could be asked of the setup seed on the ethereum network as well.  Does any one have some insight into this?

Not necessarily an exit strat, but there are stable coins, like SBD (steem dollars) that are pegged currencies.  This is a good way to lock in gains, if you assume there will be a correction. Stable coins have been talked about for many years, but still not many options. I'm really excited for more stable coins in the future.

Re: Do Altcoins really have a future?
by
solarrobot
on 21/09/2017, 23:40:02 UTC
Coins that are just trying to be a currency will die out, there are a few which will have a network effect and the features that are useful to people, the rest have no purpose and will go to zero value.

Platforms that provide particular services will survive and flurish.  Much of this will happen ontop of existing protocols like ETH, or Bitcoin, but there may be uses that are specialized enough they will need their own type of blockchains.   Blockchains as databases have a particular use, so there might be certain types of business environments that need their own financial database, so these types of chains will probably only grow from here.
