So wex has been unavailable for the last 30 minutes or so (don't know exactly when it started).. Should we be worried?

EDIT: On twitter: "We have difficulties in the work due to the DDOS attack"

What about buybacks? Are they buying out at market rate of 0.4? This is not what they originally claimed.

People have put their BTCET up for sale at around 0.5 BTC, so naturally they start there when buying back. They buy whatever users have for sale first before buying anything at 1:1 ratio. So leave your BTCET on your account for a year or so and you'll get it bought out at 100% value, right now they are just buying up the cheap ones to save money.

So how does everyone feel about the chances of getting your tokens bought out by wex? Still tempting to double your btc, but with the whole FBI deal, payment issues and so on, it sure is a gamble. Thoughts?

Buyback time of tokens 1-2 years according to latest update.. That's about two eternities in crypto time :/.

It took 8 months only for bitfinex to buy back 100% of tokens.
https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/198

Yeah my guess is that it will take less than 1-2 years for wex as well. It will ofc depend on the usage of the site, if all the users flee and the volume is really low it's going to take a long time, if it regains its popularity it will go a lot faster. My personal guess is < 1 year, but we'll see.

It's still tempting to transfer funds there and buy USDET/BTCET for example. If they are alive long enough to repay debts, you're getting double your cash. Not a bad deal to be honest, but at the moment I'm not going to risk it.

This is crypto. I'd much rather take a gamble on various altcoins with decent charts and fundamentals, for a shot at a 10x-20x whale trade. Given everything that's happened, half-price doesn't seem like nearly good enough of a deal. Even if you assume that they will remain operational for the foreseeable future, even the site admins themselves (on the forums after the takedown) said that the tokens would likely take 1-2 years to redeem. That's a lifetime in crypto.

Yeah it's too much of a gamble for me too. I have crypto outside wex now, but it feels like a 50/50 shot between losing it all or doubling it by doing that, don't really want to put ALL my eggs in one quite uncertain basket Smiley

If you _really_ trust them, you can buy a bunch of BTC on any other site, transfer it to wex and buy tokens for it, effectively doubling your BTC. But it does feel like quite the gamble though.

It's about 83% back, not 55%.

61.79% is in crypto coins. 38.21% is tokens. Tokens are about 0.55 of worth.
So, 0.55 * 38.21% + 61.79% = 82.81% of the funds has returned.

Tokens are sold at 0.55:ish now because people are willing to get 55% of their fund out now instead of waiting and get 100%. If you don't sell your tokens you will get 100% of their value back (assuming the site doesn't go belly up before then).

So if you're willing to wait, you'll be at 100%.

The server is on Moscow time. About 6hours before the new site goes live, they will be doing the data migration from the old site atm. the cutoff for changes on the old site expired about 25min ago.

It 00:30 in MST now, noticed the withdrawals got removed at almost exactly 00:00. Where did you get 6 hours from? I haven't seen any expected time when the new site will be up, did you?

So will the balance be converted tomorrow? I thought the balances would be updated before the 15:th, but I still have my old balance on the site (fiat and coins, nothing is converted to 50% crypto or other coins)

Nothing will be converted to coins after the launch ~ the 15th. They have said this numerous times. If you want the 55% refund converted to BTC, LTC and ETH you must take it now before the new site launches. After that, your balances will remain in the currencies you held when the site went down. And a portion of those currencies (< 45% apparently) will be converted to tokens. They will have fiat services on the new exchanges, so you will get the fiat credited to your account.

Thanks for the explanation! I have no desire to take the 55% deal, but thought that the people that waited for the 15th would get a potion in coins (haven't kept up in the last week or so). Anyway, good to hear.

Also somewhat comforting for me as a fiat holder that the BTC price dropped from 4800 to 3500 in the last day or two Smiley

I'm still a bit unsure about fiat, someone enlighten me.. If you wait for the 15:th, what happens with your fiat balance? Will you get 55% in coin (and the rest in "BTCE tokens")?

So if fiat does NOT get converted, and the fiat withdrawal is very limited.. Our fiat is stuck there? I'm guessing people will be reluctant to sell their BTC / similar for fiat if it will be hard getting it off the site.

Why bother taking fiat off site, just buy btc send to your btc wallet and then sell via a local fully legalized exchange...

Unless u try to avoid the taxman...

But that's my point.. If there is a site where you can sell your BTC for fiat, but not get the fiat out of the site.. would you sell? No. There would be nobody selling coins for fiat, so that's not an option.

Well, with $100k+ in fiat, I missed the BTC train (and BCH), so I have less than half of what I would have had if I was in coin at the time. Taking a 50% loss now would bring that down to a quarter. Sure BTC trading is about betting, but now I'm betting those 50k that they will honor the payback rather than losing them with 100% certainty.

it all falls back on the saying "1 bird in hand is better then 2 in the bush"

Yeah, I understand that some people wants to cut their losses and get something back. But if BTC-E would plan to run with the money, they would have done so by now in my opinion. The major risk now is just the feds shutting them down again or something along those lines, I don't think they intend to rob people. So with that in mind, I'll take that bet. Also, a typo - I'm risking losing 25k of certain cash, but can potentially gain (or well, not lose) 75k more with a quite high percentage of success, so.. I'll let it ride. So I'm betting on the 4 birds in the bush instead of 1 in the hand Smiley

I'm curious as to why people are doing the "gimme 55% now and screw the rest" refund. Isn't waiting 2 weeks worth 45% of your funds? (or maybe it's just because I have a lot of funds on there that I find it a bad option)

Just checked, my old login and 2-factor authentication worked. I also had all my funds (LTC and USD) visible on my user. Will they later remove 45% of the funds and replace it with random crapcoins, or what's the deal now?
