Hi guys,

Can someone please clear up this up as im confused as hell:

Coinbase are currently selling 1 bitcoin for 8260 euro but on gdax the lowest sell order is 8580 euro. I would expect the sell book on gdax to be close to what coinbases rates, but that doesnt seem to be the case?..

Thanks!

Lightning network = Segwit2x?

I was just wondering if someone could clear up whether the lightning network updagrade was what 2x was supposed to be? If not, then why the reason for 2x if the Lightning network upgrade was supposed to fix the problem of high transaction fees?

Thanks in advance!  Grin

Re: Understanding private keys and how recovery is possible?

how do the 24 number of randomly generated words match against the 256bit private key?
Read through this thread.
And where is a list of private keys and the amounts in those wallets are stored for if you want to recover your wallet?
If such a thing existed, anyone could steal your coins at any time.  In order to find your private key, an attacker would have to search through the extremely high amount of possible 256-bit numbers to find your randomised number, which with current technology can't be done.

You will have to keep the seed phrase safe.  Preferably by writing it down on paper and storing it in a secure location.

Great thanks! Yeah i didnt think there was  record a such of the private keys as that wouldnt work, which is why the recovery is super confusing  Huh.

One question - What is 'the seed'?

Interesting.. I have to say I'm skeptical. I haven't seen a good argument for why bitcoin can still reach $8k.

Understanding private keys and how recovery is possible?

Hi guys,

I'm still learning about bitcoin, and i understand mostly how it works. What I'm struggling with is, how do the 24 number of randomly generated words match against the 256bit private key? And where is a list of private keys and the amounts in those wallets are stored for if you want to recover your wallet?

Hope that makes sense!

With all the drama around 2x now over and BCC seeming to take away some of the market from BTC, is BTC still king and still set to rise to $7k this year? Thoughts?

Im in the same position as you. Some people seem to think there's a 20-30% correction coming after the fork, but even if that's so and you buy before, surely that would be offset by the free coin you get?

I've decided to go in now even though I know the price is high just for the free coin. I'm planning on holding for long term so I dont see a huge problem. IF theres a 20-30% dip at some point, I'm sure it will get back its price and then some. Its been the history so far so hopefully it'll repeat itself.

Any comments/feedback welcome!

Could Segwit2x make BTC drop in price?
by

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about the upcoming fork and what it will do to BTC prices? If the miners start adopting 2x over BTC, then surely that would make BTCs price plummet and 2x price go the other way? Is this more of a gradual change?

Thanks,

GDAX is a company by Coinbase and basically provides additional options on top of simply buying and selling coins. You shouldn't have to worry about being contacted by them instead of coinbase.

Regarding the phone costs, did you try skype? It's very cheap to make international calls if you load a bit of fiat on your skype account.

Ah okay, thought that might be the case. Thanks for the suggestion, I did think of that this morning. Bit of a 'Doh' moment!

Coinbase/GDAX Scam
by
tbch2325
on 25/10/2017, 08:56:20 UTC
Hi guys,

I'm having an awful time at the moment with Coinbase. I sent them £5,500 in order to buy bitcoin 4 weeks ago, but due to a mismatch from the account name it was being sent from, the funds were never cleared on their account to credit my Euro wallet. The payment was sent on the 26th September and I got an automated email on the 29th September explaining whats happened, that the payment will be reversed, and I will see the funds back in my account within 1-2 business days. Its now almost been a month since I received that email and there is still nothing in my account.

I've phoned them 4 times now, each times costing me around £100 (as calling from the UK) and each time I'm told its with a 'specialist' and they will get around to dealing with it when they can. That was since I called yesterday, when the representative i was speaking to on the phone said that she couldn't see any transaction on my account, and asked me to send a screenshot of the transaction. Weirdly, her email came form a company called GDAX which appears to be another exchange. I've been told again that a specialist will look into it (for the 100th time) and someone will get back to me (and they never do).

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm seriously worried I've lost all my savings that I was hoping to put into bitcoin. Coinbase support has been absolutely shocking so far, I dont understand how such a large company have struggled with this.

Thanks for any replies

Can someone please tell me if these fees still apply when sending from a hardware wallet such as Ledger?

Thanks again

Electrum high fees?
by
tbch2325
on 19/10/2017, 14:14:57 UTC
Hi guys,

I've recently started using Electrum and the fees seem crazy high. Heres the break down:

Send 0.00579666 BTC (£25.17)

Mining Fee: 0.0009334 BTC (£4.05)
Additional Fees: 0.002 BTC (£8.68)

Thats like half my bitcoin just to send it?

I thought the whole idea behind bitcoin was that it was cheap and quick to send currency? Super confused! I understand the additional fees are 2FA, but £8.68 and £4.05 for mining? So for me to send £25.17 its going to cost me the best part of half my bitcoin?

Whats going on here?

Thanks for any response!
