Re: New essay seriously questions Bitcoin's future success
by

As what I have understand in the article the banks can defeat Bitcoin by making a currency big enough to compete with bitcoin. And this will need a big innovation since the inflation rate was one of the big disadvantage of investing in the bank. They will need to increase the earnings of their investors to earn people's trust which in turn can result for them to suffer in a great financial lost. And since they can not manipulate the bitcoin because it's decentralized it will be really hard for them to outrun the bitcoin.

There was lots of issues before that attackers exploit android bugs to steal bitcoin from wallets. There was an android-Bitcoin Malware on playstore/Google store. But the google have removed it already. Not sure if there are still apps like this. You might have downloaded a malicious software. That's why scrutinizing each app is necessary if you are using android wallet.

It's been few months since I had 1 or 2 Bitcoin. I used them when my baby was hospitalized. And Bitcoin was a good investment indeed, I can use this during emergency time.

Re: How is bitcoin better than litecoin?
by
thebenjamincode
on 06/08/2015, 06:10:07 UTC

One factor that makes litecoin lower in value compared to bitcoin is that there are only a total of 21 million bitcoins available while litecoin can reach up to 84 million based on its mining algorithms. With this, some analysts believe that litecoin can offer a psychological advantage to bitcoin, as consumers often prefer to have transactions in whole units instead of fractions. Litecoin also enjoys a faster speed of transaction compared to bitcoin, as the former takes only 2.5 minutes while the latter needs 9 minutes. But at the end of the day Bitcoin is much better than Litecoin since the number of crowd who use Bitcoin is greater. And cryptocurrencies live only because of the population who used it, if the population drops the currency will drop. But with Bitcoin as the founder of all the currencies, the integrity and stability is much stronger than litecoin. It earn the trust of lots people and it will surely live longer.  It can still be a future currency of the world, and many believe of that.

Re: Is it true? Bitcoin Isn't a Currency but a Technology?
by
thebenjamincode
on 06/08/2015, 05:51:12 UTC
One does not exclude the other.

It's technology, yes (not a 'technology stock'). It's a commodity, too. And many people consider it a currency as well.

What the governments say about this is irrelevant. If everybody would use and accept Bitcoin as money, who are the governments (or anyone) to decide it's something else?

Yes you are right. People consider it as a currency. But then now Bitcoin faces daily hacking and theft risks, lacks access to a banking system with deposit insurance, and it is not used to denominate consumer credit or loan contracts. So I guess Bitcoin appears to behave more like a speculative investment than a currency. Am I right?

Re: Banned in Bitcointalk for 1 month
by
thebenjamincode

Yes, this happened to me a few times (not sure exactly). I do admit that my posts were bad back then. I think all of the bans occurred in 2014, but I'm not sure. I did PM BadBear about it, and he did give a nice explanation with some tips. A combination of a high number of posts + low quality + signature campaign will most likely get you punished.

Looking at your account it seems that you were banned on July 4th. That day you've made 19 posts and you probably drew attention, unless you were already reported by some moderator. I do not have enough time right now to analyze all of your posts, however if I look at only posts made on June 28th, it is pretty much clear to me. I see 10 one liners, and a few other shorts posts (again, no time to asses quality of each).

It is okay to make mistakes, I accidentally showed some support to tspacepilot in his war again QS a few months ago because I replied too quickly.  I've had situations where my post contained ~300 words (however, it is not all about length but the discussion of quality needs a separate thread) and the next poster (also a signature campaign participant) posted a one liner. That post took almost 30 minutes to properly get written with research.

The point of this is that people make mistakes, and one must definitely spend a lot more time reading before replying (unless you're the first one to reply).

Thanks for the info. I guess it's the quality of the posts I made. I should be careful nextime and takes time to read all the posts and replies. However, I wanted to know if I'll still get ban if I posted a lot but this time my posts were with good quality?

Re: Do you think Bitcoin could bring about world peace?
by
thebenjamincode

Those who believe Bitcoin is the solution to all the world’s woes are setting themselves up for disappointment. War existed before fiat currencies, and war will exist without fiat currencies. While we like to think of ourselves as civilized creatures, we often find ourselves unable or unwilling to solve our problems without having to resort to war.
What Bitcoin can do, though, is reduce a government’s ability to go to war. If a government is unable to print off new money in order to fund a war effort, they would be forced to rely on their reserves. This would make the decision to go to war a far more difficult one, not only for governments but also for the common people.

Recently I have read a debate if Bitcoin is a currency or technology. It stated there that it is a technology stock and not a currency since the governments have not approved it as a currency. I wanted to know your opinion in this debate. Is bitcoin a currency, or isn't it?

Re: Can Bitcoin become the best technology ?

A day ago I was thinking if bitcoin is a currency or a technology since it's a tech stock.  Now, for the uninitiated, Bitcoin is supposed to be the online currency that will free us from state-backed ones. It's a cryptographically-sophisticated virtual currency you can use to buy real things over peer-to-peer networks without leaving a trace in the real world. The idea is to create money that central banks can't debase and governments can't tax. In other words, digital gold. Actually, make that anonymous digital gold.

I don't think the Internet is going down due to an economic downturn.

But...you should check out MaidSafe. They are building what you're talking about, a decentralized internet.

i somehow don't fully understand the idea of maidsafe
i think its a lot better if they just offered free internet to everyone rather than making a decentralized one

there are lots of coins that dies because they are mostly scam and does not really care about improving the use of cryptocurrency.
i hope that the real altcoins who focuses on making cryptocurrency better would prevail and make it onto top so that people could use it
and replace bitcoin from the things that bitcoin lacks
