You are assuming that a user's connection will be dedicated to p2pool, where at least bitcoind is required for p2pool to even function, let alone using the internet for other purposes.

With the way you're stubbornly blocking reasonable solutions from being implemented in mainnet P2Pool — solutions that arguably go a long way in solving many of P2Pool's teething problems, with benefits that far outweigh the risks, and where even kano (who has more to gain from mainnet P2Pool remaining in its current artificially anemic state, since he can all the more persuade current and potential mainnet P2Pool miners to mine with his pool instead) agrees that it would be for P2Pool's greater good — mainnet P2Pool has become your private pool, veqtrus.
I'm not in control of the main p2pool repo. ForrestV can merge what he wants. It is not my job to tell him to merge stuff I don't agree with.

veqtrus, is it your opinion that people should be able to mine on p2pool via ISDN?
No, 4 Mbps upload bandwidth is nowhere close to ISDN.

I consider 4 Mbps to be a reasonable minimum HW spec for p2pool
Yes, this is indeed a reasonable spec for a private pool.

Well that's an unexpected thing for you to imply about p2pool ... ... ...
Of course centralized solutions are more efficient, you don't need jtoomim's fork for that.

In the . conf what i have to exactly write? I found several versions.
Where is your blockchain downloaded?

In this folder "E:\Program Files\Bitcoin" in which there is bitcoin-qt.exe. But isn't normal that p2pool crashes in so short time always.
P2Pool tells you to create it in "C:\Users\User1\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin" where your bitcoind data folder is.

I made the txt saved .conf in the bitcoin core folder.
Where exactly? P2Pool doesn't seem to find it.

Coz he is more worried about the problems with p2pool and doing something about them, rather than sticking his head in the sand.
Increasing the new txs size/share limit is sticking your head in the sand about attack vectors. Unless of course your use case is a private pool aided by other hashers.

As a complete noob to p2pool, thanks to veqtrus for creating a Segwit version that doesn't require me to move away from Core bitcoind.  17.1 seems to be working fine now with no scary error messages from p2pool or bitcoind.  I wanted to signal my support for segwit, but not segwit2x.  Thank you for giving me a way to do that!  It was a bit of a convoluted path to find it tho.  I am sure there are a lot of miners that just upgraded everything per the error message and end up supporting segwit2x without knowing it... clearly.  I wish there was a clear path of instructions out there for those that support segwit, then another for those that support segwit2x.  In any case, thank you veqtrus for supporting what i consider at this point to be "real" bitcoin.
To be fair it would be hard for miners to support 2x without knowing it as jtoomim's fork throws an error if you mine with Core.

As with all things probability-related, there are always outliers.
By reducing the target block interval you make those outliers the new average. The new outliers will be just a few seconds.

There have been many instances of Bitcoin blocks being found within seconds of each other.
That doesn't mean that Bitcoin's target block time could be reduced to 30 seconds and is no reason P2Pool's shares could be 1MB.

okay thank you.. is there a possibility to combine the two branches again? it seems to be very uselesss to split this very small pool in two even smaller, separate networks..
In 3 months jtoomimnet will fork off to segwit2x anyway so it seems to be pointless.
In case the split of jtoomim's network happens, would it not be possible to merge the two versions that follow segwit, so that the reasons that some miners have to follow jtoomim even though they only support segwit is partially alleviated?
Merging would require creating a third network which contains a snapshot of the balances of the other two networks. It's easier to just abandon one of the networks.

I think one of the main reasons people choose to use jtoomimnet is the excessively increased new txn size/share limit which allows producing larger blocks at the expense of DoS vulnerability. Since a lot of "P2Pool miners" are just mining on centralized P2Pool instances this isn't a concern to them; they can switch to any other centralized pool at any time. Also since proof-of-hope blockchains are the domain of BU/2x/altcoin developers this represents a major disagreement.

What is happening is that my code has been checking for segwit transactions to not be included in old shares for months but I haven't included a check in the mining code since I thought that v17 shares would activate before segwit activates. Bitcoind is sending segwit txs in its block template but p2pool can't mine them yet. This has nothing to do with syncing other shares.

https://github.com/veqtrus/p2pool/releases/tag/17.1 if anyone needs windows binaries.

Unless you provide us some details about the software you use we won't be able to help you. OS? From source or not?

OS is Windows 10 Professional

Downloaded v17 from https://github.com/p2pool/p2pool/tree/17.0

followed directions in readme file to Reset Python27 however was unable to successfully install twisted. (as I said earlier I am not a coder I am a hardware guy) Everything else seemed to install ok.

I also noted that the run_p2pool application file is not present in v17 I am not sure if it is something that came from the v16 sig files but when I try to run the run_p2pool.py file it does nothing ...

Honestly I think I was lucky getting v16 to run.

At first I thought I would be able to replace the v16 files with the new v17 files ... that did not work.

Then I tried to configure from scratch. Still didn't work ... I am missing a step or two some where ...

I went back to the instructions for v16 they seam Identical ...

what steps have  I missed?

I wrote a guide for vtc but it may help you with btc too if you want to run from source. Also use the master branch which includes a necessary commit.

Can someone push a binary on the main page ? >>> http://p2pool.in/
ForrestV talked with me and will be making a release soon.
