And it's perhaps impossible to change what once made it so strong in a trustworthy way. As you said it is just a meme and it is like a stigma and nobody would really believe DOGE could compete with the big ones on a technical level. And ultimately, that is the truth for now (and might remain forever).

Wake up. Bitcoin is a joke itself. No one believes in unicorns and magic internet money!

I heard and read that the original developers of the coin has abandoned it. Do you have news about others tried taking over the project. Its current price, which is low and cheap one, has stood at 18 satoshi. Would you mind explaining why you think that "the coin will progressed"

It is already progresseding Tongue Satoshi abandoned Bitcoin a while ago. NOOOOOO CRYPTO DOOOOM IS COMING!

So since the start of 2017, 380+ new shitcoins have been added to the list (as tracked by coinmarketcap.com). The list went from ~900 to ~1281 cryptocurrencies. And 6581 "markets", whatever the hell that means.

So Bitcoin's % dominance as tracked there is not being 'eroded' by other alts supposedly taking market share away. It's being eroded % wise because of all the shitcoins merely being added to the ever growing list.

In other words, just by virtue of adding a new shitcoin to the list, Bitcoin's % market share of the total is shown to go down. Because the individual fiat market caps of each new shitcoin added are fakery. Complete bullshit.

A more accurate way to track % and total market share would be to restrict the list to say the top 500 by market share, and anything below that gets taken completely off the list.

If one wants to get accurate info, all data MUST be shown. It's a fact. End of the story.

Nope. You can another 100,000 shitcoins to the list. Won't make a difference to Bitcoin's true % dominance.

Let's explain this in another way. Hidden data means incomplete info, thus that's not the reality.
Doesn't matter if we like it, fake or real coins. They are part of the game

Not taking sides in a war is usually smart, but not always, and this is one of those exceptions.

Taking side in a war is usually dumb, but not always. Not taking one is dumbest (or malign neutrality perhaps)
If one is measuring his/her acts based on ideas, that's going to end badly

BTC/BCH squarehead: "But, but the others..."
Honey badgers: I DON'T CARE!!

PS: No exceptions

except satoshi. that traitor!
srsly do you expect people to dig up their cold storage every time anybody forks off some turd. or just this time?

Bitcoin is not upon an idea. IT IS THE IDEA. Not exactly the same.
About the other concern, well everyone is free

You have the balls to say that paying high fees is financial freedom. FREEDOM
Otherwise I can go back to banksters, why? Different faces, same slavery problem

No, you pay high fees, BECAUSE it is giving you freedom. If you value the cost less than you value the freedom granted, do not use it. It is OPT-IN.
In other words:
The demand for financial sovereignty through the use of the - voluntary(!)- network of Bitcoin is higher than the supply right now, that is why it is expensive, not because of technical limitations. And spam attack, ofc  Cool

Freedom has a cost. No one forces you to pay it.

Ehm... no. You basically are saying
-If I want to voluntarily use the bitcoin network, I must pay those high fees. That doesn't sound like freedom for me. I cannot manage my resources freely if I'm losing a percentage every time besides the spent.

Please rephrase that, because only two alternatives available: fiat banking or the dark side

DogeCoin may finally update the 2 years old code and have segwit soon — Tai Zen is organizing a professional company to update the code and developing DOGECOIN NOW. DOGECOIN WILL WENT TO $0.86 SOON.
https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/7b5cn8/i_had_a_dream_dogecoin_went_to_086/
Does actually DOGE need segwit? Transfer speed and tx cost are low already, and there is no bottleneck in the chain as far as I'm aware...
I could be wrong, but isn't that due to vastly lower usage volume than Bitcoin and Ethereum have?
Indeed it is, capacity for a standard coin will likely never hit that of bitcoin - If I remember correctly, the main capacity issue with bitcoin was caused by somebody (likely a miner) filling every block with transactions pinging between two accounts to force an increase in the tx fee, (I'll see if I can find the article).
I remember reading about people spamming the blockchain, but I always assumed it was due to all the faucet websites and micropayments. Had no idea that miners deliberately screwed with the blockchain this much too...

Mr/Mrs DOGEPRICE is a little high sometimes hahaha. Segwit was already implemented on the code IIRC, in last update this year. But not activated, just in case. *

I see there are a lot of dog lovers here? Does anyone really earn money on this coin? The schedule is very unusual, I still do not understand how to work with it?

Take a look at least to the last few pages, you'll find useful sites and info Wink

Oh no! Is this for real? We're doomed, go tell to forum admins they have to close this thread

*Edit:Btw if there was spam on the network, which I'm not aware of, it didn't show on fees

There have been many doge forks and derivatives throughout the years. dogecoindark, dogecoinlite, dogecoin-eth, dogecoin gold, dogecoin token, dogecoin plus alpha zero turbo with SegwitX10 mega. They are all trying to copy and imitate the dynamic intricacies of the now faded doge. We don't need a fork or a new take on doge, what we need is a revitalization of what made doge great from the beginning.

Things we can do:

- Raise money for the current dev team or a new group of official sanctioned devs. The escrow to be provided by anyone who still official capacity in dogecoin. Doge needs bitcoin security updates and maintenance. It would not be difficult to fund other programmers to do so, although ideally it would be better for the original devs to be active again. Either way, doge is a community coin and we can move it forward as a community.

I am pledging $14,000 for active devs.

- Contact exchanges and entertain the idea of a 1:1 dogecoin fork in which we can maintain the same ticker "DOGE".

- Generate a new roadmap the coincides with the latest in crypto development. DOGE stands out as a donation currency and a ton of people are new to crypto in the last few years that are looking for something like this. Not only that, but a lot of old dogecoiners are now rich and are sentimental for doge, they just want a reason to be involved. Imagine the new levels of donation we can achieve in 2018. Donations and Tipping. If we can create an official and easy to use tipping app, it would give true purpose to doge.

- Stop looking to the past. It's time to look forward. Yes there were bad players, yes there were hacks, yes the developers aren't active - But our blockchain is one of the most stable in the industry. Focus on our low fees. Focus on adoption in India, Africa and Venezuela. Focus on creating content (memes) and most of all... focus on teaching new people about crypto with dogecoin, it's the lowest barrier of entry currently.

- Try to be a little more kind to new comers and people with questions. Even the wild speculation should be taken with a grain of salt and treated as enthusiasm and motivation for other shibes.

- Have fun!

Have you made posted a thread on Reddit yet? I feel like we might have more success there than on Bitcoin Talk. Would love to see what kind of reaction this would get. Do mention the use of an escrow in case we end up collecting donations for a roadmap though. And let's not start collecting until we have a vision that the community agrees on. Just my fifty Doges though.

wakka622 Aren't we learning nothing about the RagnaFork over Bitcoin these days?  First thing you do is criticize forks, but then the revolutionary idea you thought is some sort of DogeCoin Cash? Wow. Such contradiction. Please clear this up.
What makes Doge special is that it's a good currency. Maybe if you look for complex features, bells & whistles... you're looking for a store of value ie Bitcoin.
A currency is just the opposite, is plain SIMPLE
Fast - Much checked
Cheap - Much checked
Secure - Much checked

If one of the above is in danger, anyone can propose a patch, or maybe a preventing idea.

Two main points unfortunately claimed til now (on reddit too) are against the previous exposed model

Fork&Split: Huge inflation, apocalypse...
Burning/limit coins: Quite antagonistic. Deflation will lead Doge to become closer to BTC's characteristics (store of value)

Btw there are currently two active campaigns on reddit: #DogecoinMilkForEveryOne and #DogecoinSocksForTheHomeless.
Besides there is a new & cool tipbot since a few months, replacing the lost one https://www.reddit.com/r/sodogetip/ Such WoW!  Wink

Hey it seems like you have some extra fiat Grin. Many possibilities!
Buy doge. Donate to devs/users Cheesy or campaign, maybe your own ideas. Use them if crypto enviroment succeeds, at least they will perform well against fiat.
Invest in a store of value if you want to profit more.
Cash it. Burn the notes.
Actually limitless choices you are free

At the current price of 18 satoshi, I'm sad because when the DOGE price skyrocketed last May, I bought 0.35 btc when the price was 120 satoshi, hoping there will be a big recovery before the year ends.

You could've bought even at 190 sats
