you should get a thesaurus. We get it, your a "babe" Smiley

btw: have you actually made anything from the web miner?

I had a webminer on a 1000+ hit a day site for a month and this was back when the difficulty was way low like 3 months ago, made like .000000323 BTC

IMO (and I am the webmaster of several sites) you will do much better not pissing people off by using their computer's resources , then the few cents you will make from using a web based miner on your web sites.

You have to realize you may get users that are running a P4 with 256mb of ram and IE7

that webminer is going to slow their whole computer down to a grinding halt and possibly crash them
and I am not "trolling" this is a subject I have thoroughly experimented with myself. Just a nickels free of advice for you babe.

Well, thanks for the advice.

And no, I'm not making much at all and don't expect to (no doubt a strange concept to most around these parts). I view it more like street performing for a few stray nickels than a serious money making scheme. There's a lot of talk on these boards about spreading the word about bitcoin to Joe and Jane public, this is my way of doing it.

And while you may think I need a thesaurus (because, gosh, using the same word five times over two posts surely shows my lack of vocabulary), I'm sure you meant 'We get it, you're a "babe" ' as opposed to 'your a "babe." ' I won't point out your other mistakes as I'm sure it's just human error and this isn't your PhD thesis or anything.

Bottom left hand corner of the screen there's the option to switch it off. Please feel free to do so.

If my CPU cycles are my property, then this is sort of like stealing french fries off my plate over and over again until I slap your hand away. Kinda scummy, IMO. Bitcoin should be striving for legitimacy, but everyone seems to like playing in the gutter instead.

Well, i don't know how to say this without offending anyone.

For me, it looks like a cheap mechanical wrist watch with a generic asian clockwork (probably by some company called "BTC"?) or maybe with a custom engraving of these three letters.

Worth: probably 5$.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

No offence, but I guess you're not the intended target audience.

Check out this site called Buy It Cheaper (http://www.buycheapr.com/us/result.jsp?ga=us10&q=eta+valjoux+7750) and then bear in mind that this particular watch is a limited edition.

If it doesn't appeal to any early adopters of bitcoin, then might do to someone who's already wealthy (or a bit of a spender) who wants to take a punt on bitcoin, or who is just into collecting exclusive/expensive watches.

bitcoinbabe:

is it really necessary to use the word 'porn' five times on the front page of your blog?

In the context in which it is used (i.e. that fiat currency can be, has been, and is, used for as many nefarious/unsavoury activities as btc), I'd have to say yes.

Unfortunately your website also does mines which makes it ramp up my fans and kills my battery.

from your website:

thats interesting.  i'm running on a Mac.  does the miner only work on Windows?

As far as I know, it should work on Mac too. There's also a dedicated Wordpress plugin and the above code, which littleshop pasted, is take from the Bitcoin Plus website miner page: http://www.bitcoinplus.com/miner/embeddable (and no, it's not a referral link, just for your information).

Now of there was a book (not an ebook) on beating or curcumventing the financial system by investing in bitcoin...

that doesn't take a book. Simply stop valuing your Bitcoins in US $. Done.

Well, duh, of course! But in the context of selling books on amazon...

So, while Falvinge is a great resource, for a successful TED talk you need someone with a balance of oratory and presentation skills combined with knowledge. Sadly, Falvinge aint it.

While I can understand where you're coming from, some of the interviews lately have been a bit monotonic, Rick actually does great presentations. He did one at Reboot11 about the Pirate Party that was very well received.

http://video.reboot.dk/video/510337/pirates-go-to-parliament-by (from 2009)

(Reboot is an unconference happening more than a carefully planned TED conference which shows though)

Ah, I take it back! He does have some life in him after all.

In the first link possted in this thread where he is Max Keiser's guest he looks a little constipated and lacking in sparkle. This, on the other hand, shows him to have humour and a depth of character rather than just a robotic talking head. And yes, TED Talks would certainly make this same presentation look more appealing, so the fact that he still comes across OK here drives your point home all the more.

It could work like this:

1. People go to the library, take some books home, and scan them in.
2. People who support the project donate some anonymous bitcoins.
3. The system automatically divides the bitcoins to each person taking part in the project each month. The more pages you upload, the bigger your share of the donations.
4. Continue until every book existing in the world is uploaded, for free, without any restrictions, in one amazing library for every person on the planet to access.

That might be doable but with the proliferation of PDF books, torrents and the Kindle reaching critical mass the price of physical books is sliding towards zero.  Since I realized this I am selling my books on amazon and it is a losing battle to be the lowest priced seller.
Too true. Unless listed for a penny, books just seem to languish on Amazon gathering cyberdust (and real dust, in the real world).

However, I'm finding that any books on finance - particularly on improving your finances, investing and trading on the markets - sell within days of being listed, and they aren't listed for just a penny either!

We need a TED talk.

It would be amazing PR directed at the perfect demographic. Best of all: it would be free.

Anyone have any idea how to make this happen?

A TED talk would be fantastic... a TED talk by Bruce would be a nightmare.

No offence, Bruce, I love you and what you're trying to do for Bitcoin, but we need less of an evangelist and more of a charmer. Actually, I'm thinking Rick Falvinge would be ideal for TED.

I beg to differ on Rick Falvinge being ideal for a TED talk. He's brilliant on the facts but his delivery leaves a lot to be desired. The best TED talks tend to be insightful, informative and inspirational. Rick inspires me to want to go to sleep... and I'm a bitcoin enthusiast.

His image is a little sloppy too. If he's going to wear a business suit and tie, then he could stand to look a bit sharper; otherwise, he could try going for the sartorial style of Steve Jobs or Peter Thiel - different (in the normally staid business/commercial field) but not threatening - both men who know how to present new, innovative ideas, and ideas that went on to break new frontiers no less.

So, while Falvinge is a great resource, for a successful TED talk you need someone with a balance of oratory and presentation skills combined with knowledge. Sadly, Falvinge aint it.

The bitcoin client really needs some encryption and a welcoming pdf that opens up automatically, with some basic information on where the wallet is, how to encrypt it, and perhaps functions like loading a wallet from a USB stick. I encrypt my files manually but know for a fact that most generation myspace/facebook people arent doing this.

Chances are that most people across Africa will be using mobile phones to access their bitcoins and the web, not laptops or PCs.

Just as most Africans by-passed owning a landline and went directly to owning a mobile phone, most of them have also never owned a laptop or PC before getting access to the web via their phones, and probably never will.

Also, with many Africans (particularly in Kenya and other parts of East Africa) already used to mobile phone payment systems like MPESA, bitcoin could take off quite significantly and spread more rapidly throughout the African continent than in Western countries.

Re: How do we get the women on board?
by

on 30/07/2011, 12:48:05 UTC
Well, frome the way this thread has gone, it seems it's more important for some men to be right about women and slutty underwear than it is to find out how to get women to use bitcoin in large numbers.

It seems the idea of women in underwear is way to distracting for some of you, so I'll reiterate to try and get back/stay on topic:

Imagine a non-technie, non-libertarian woman has only heard negative things about bitcoin, like the Silk Road saga, and then couple that with the difficulty of securing your currency (to a non-techie). But let's say curiosity gets the better of her and she decides to see what she can actually buy with bitcoin, and all she comes across (for now) is a site that sells outfits like the ones that have so far been suggested or pointed out (http://chicapparel.info/index.php and http://cryptocommodity.org/tats/backsm.jpg). What d'you think she'd think? Do you seriously think she'd be chomping at the bit to get some bitcoin to buy any of these outfits?

Knock yourselves out guys!

For example is the following outfit sexy or slutty?  Its a pic from a random night at Vanity nightclub at the Hard Rock Las Vegas but it may be NSFW.

http://cryptocommodity.org/tats/backsm.jpg

People use too many labels.

Personally, I'd say slutty.

For what it's worth, I have a friend who used to be a pole dancer. She'd happily wear something like that for work. She'd never wear it outside of work, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't buy sexy underwear/lingerie for herself to wear under her regular clothes.

So are there women who'd think that was sexy? I guess.

However, to get back on topic, would a site that sells such an outfit be the best way to get women on board, especially with so few mainstream-friendly sites currently available? All it would do is cash in on the sleazy reputation that some would like to portray bitcoin as having.

LOL. I have matching lingerie and I also have some slutty underwear (trust me, they're not the same thing). The latter was bought for me by a guy who only got to see me wear it so his feelings wouldn't get hurt.

I love it when men think they know women oh so very well. Cheesy
I love it when women think every other woman is exactly like them.
I don't think all women are like me. Not even most of my women friends are me or like each other. But when it comes to women's underwear, many men don't seem to know the difference between classy and brassy (nor, for that matter, sexy and slutty), but their wives and girlfriends tend to put up with it anyway.
Tongue
I've talked to a lot of women who say they love sexy underwear. These are women who haven't been sexually interested in me, so it wasn't said in any way to impress me or for me to feel better about myself. My current girlfriend also loves sexy underwear. For most of the women who love sexy underwear, it is all about being attractive to their man. They love the way the man they love look at them when they're wearing something sexy.
I'm in total agreement. However, like I said, sexy doesn't equate slutty.

Right, because women LOVE slutty underwear (and whhich is why their men tend to buy it for them more than they tend to buy it for themselves).

Are you kidding? Every ladyfriend I've ever had has had at least some slutty underwear she would bust out with, even the really quiet, unassuming ones.

It's not a bad idea at all... but it would most likely take some of bitcoin players to contribute to this.   Let's say one of the exchanges waives all fees to convert the donated coins to USD for them then it's something that would get them press and allow for wikipedia to collect USD from bitcoins.

I'd be willing to make it easier for them to get donations... flexcoin id : wikipedia for example

but the converting to USD has to be though an exchange.

Or side-step the whole exchange hoopla and make it easier to donate using bit pay.
