More Semantics, He said long before he started the piece that it was a stock image as this little project was not worth more time that a stock image on mahogany.

Glad to see we can repeat ourselves time and again with the same old semantics you were using a week ago.

Since were playing the semantics game, lets play my favorite game "here is the facts as written in the encyclopedia"

As Derivative works done in his own style his pieces are LEGALLY considered original. Dont take my word for it, ITS RIGHT HERE. So calling them original works is 100% the truth and fact. Thats not semantics, that's universally the truth

Was pointing this out to your potential buyers so that there wasn't any confusion (this seemed to be a problem with one of your previous customers). I wasn't talking about legalities. Wink  This thread has been pretty hilarious on a slow Sunday evening though.  Cheesy

Thank you for your high quality sauce! Hubby & I have been enjoying the gift-set since X-mas. I think our favourite flavour-wise so far is the Hornet Bomb.  Killer swarm was also very delicious. It really makes for a nice spicy stir-fry.  It is not the hottest sauce we've tried, but definitely the hottest by far that is extract-free.

Funny story - This morning I was having some leftover chicken & eggs for breakfast.  Decided to put some of the Hornet Bomb sauce on and I used it pretty liberally. Well...  reading is fundamental. I took the wrong bottle and put the Killer Swarm sauce on by accident. Oops!  That woke me up more than the coffee did. lol

Looking forward to future orders.

Ahhh I just missed this special!  I recently purchased the gift set, but probably would have ordered more with this sale. Oh well. Wink The price + shipping was still pretty cheap so I can't complain. The package just got here(that was quick!), but this is an X-mas gift for the husband, so won't be able to review/enjoy it until then.

The hickory smoked habanero powder interests me (I imagine it makes for some nice dry rubs).  If we like the sauce, we'll probably put in an order for that in the future as well.

I'm pretty sure the answer should be 2.

Each digit has an assigned value, then these values are added together.

0 = 1
1 = 0
2 = 0
3 = 0
4 isn't used
5 = 0
6 = 1
7 = 0
8 = 2
9 = 1

So 2581 would be 0 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 2.

Should all of the coins be round?

Should we keep the designs only gold / silver or are we allowed to add color?

Should entrants refrain from pointing others to vote in this contest? I understand this can be a gray area, but the more clarification we can get on this the better.

Are we allowed to use some or all of a design that we submitted for the previous contest? I'm not planning to but in case someone else would like to it will be best to clarify this now.

I would like to know the answer to these questions as well.  I might submit a revised version of my last design, but would like to know if this is acceptable before putting work into it. Thanks.

Thanks for the links.  Never played the KH series and did not realize the composer was female.  Square-Enix really does have some amazing music and am happy to hear that they hired a female composer.  Listening to the soundtrack now and it sounds beautiful!

Re: Am I the only girl on here? : (
by
Iynx
on 08/10/2014, 17:21:11 UTC
I still don't understand why being a pretty girl would automatically entitle us to random btc donations on here, like, just for being a girl? How? why? Do you see a pretty girl walking down the street and throw pound notes at her? I know some girls (or guys pretending to be girls) were begging on here and that's pretty straight forward, equivalent to a begger on the street, homeless asking for money, etc, and it's nice to be kind to someone in need.
But the whole btc concept of throwing money at girls just for being pretty really confuses me, I don't get it.

You must be young if you haven't figured this one out yet. Tongue  Naive guys fall for this all the time. You don't go around begging for gifts... you don't have to! All you have to do is lead a guy on with some pretty pics and make it sound like you're interested in him.  It helps if you act extra girly too.  These type of guys think that they need to shower girls with gifts in order to keep their interest.  It's so very painful to watch, because no matter how much sense you try to talk in to the guy, he's so enamoured that he won't listen to reason.  Lots of men that want to scam know this and so they will pretend to be a pretty girl to scam.

I used to play an MMO called FFXI and this sort of stuff was rampant.  You wouldn't believe the stuff people would do.  I knew several males that would play female characters in order to scam.  When it got too weird for one guy, he faked his own death to avoid the player he was scamming.  Of course he was back a week later, claiming to be the girl's parents "to keep her memory alive" lol sounds legit, right?  Roll Eyes Then there were the real women who would flirt for help/free stuff.  Not really sure if you can call that scamming though as I do believe the guys would get something out of it(at least I hope they were smart enough to get pics lol). Tongue

So yeah, the norm would be (much like this forum) you were considered male until proven otherwise.  I understand where the sentiment comes from, but I don't believe that's any excuse to be rude and treat you like a scammer. Especially in the newbie section where you're not conducting any business, but just asking a legitimate question.  Like others have said, I think there are quite a few women on here, but they prefer to keep their sex private because of unwanted attention or as you can see, being labeled as a scammer.

To answer your question though, I'm female myself (just not a pretty one XD) and am happy to see more on here. Smiley

It looks like you assume that what somebody(anybody!) said 3 years ago holds true for all eternity in the future.

This is not what I think at all and makes me sound closed minded (an assumption of the way I think). I did like your biscuit example though, 'cause it reminded me of how I began to like olives (oh man were they awful at first)! Cheesy

As for techie parents, I had none of those. Every year I go home there is something computer related to fix. XD
My brothers played a lot of video games though, and I assume that's how I got interested in them. Was difficult to get my female friends to play them, but they did try.  I think Mario Kart probably garnered the most interest.  I like supporting Nintendo for this reason, as their target audience seems to be more inclusive in general.

Good job Coinographic with resolving issues with the competition.  I think you did what was most fair in the end and most of us can agree with that. Do you still plan on doing more competitions here in the future?  I hope the drama didn't discourage you too much. Smiley

One thing though, I looked at the spreadsheet and noticed BTC-Graphicsdesigns vote for me was not included.  I assume it got taken down for her getting disqualified, but thought the spreadsheet should reflect that.  Thanks & congrats to all the winners!

Anita Sarkeesian said that 3 years ago. It looks like you assume that what somebody(anybody!) said 3 years ago holds true for all eternity in the future. If I talked about 3 years ago how much I hate eating biscuit chocolate and how horrible the taste is, but the last 6 months I talk about that the taste isn't that bad after all, that I gotten used to it and that it is actually one of my favourites as of late, would you just continue ranting on that tjohej hated biscuit chocolate 3 years ago? Or say I hated Bitcoin 3 years ago, but the last 6 months I love it.(ie. a cryptography enthusiast explained to me in detail how it works over 4 hours of Q&A and everything I had doubts for got answered at that time so I became passionate about it ever since)

Hmmm... you just made a huge assumption about me though, but I won't take that personally. ;P I'm actually a pretty open minded individual and realize people change their minds, however I don't think it's logical for a person to dislike something for 20+ years then do a complete 180 with little evidence of such.  Why would I assume she likes them now?  What games does she like or advocate for?  Heck, she couldn't be bothered to play the games she reviewed for herself. Don't you find the way she presents herself suspicious in the least? Just look at the amount of scamming that goes on in this forum and you can see what people will do for even small amounts of money.  Scammers are involved in all sorts of charities, (have had numerous ones for breast cancer harassing me on the phone) in fact they flock to stuff like this.  It's important to properly vet any charity before you donate to them, especially ones that are obviously preying on your emotions.

As for the chocolate biscuit, if you don't like them you should probably stay away.  They're not very good for you anyways.  Cheesy

Actually none if I am honest. Compare my IP - I don't really care what you think.
Maybe the voters realised that my design is great? Or maybe its because I am the only female who entered?

Not sure where you got the idea that you were the only female who entered. I also don't know what that has to do with people picking a design though... ? You picked a symbol of male power for your design, so if anything people would have assumed you were male. Wink

I must apologize for yesterday as I was extremely frustrated with alot of things.  But after taking a night to think about it, I realize it wasn't fair to negatively criticize your design simply because it was hand drawn.  You seem to have been as transparent and honest as anyone could expect and probably put more thought into your design than anyone of the rest of us. (Not to say the rest of us didn't work hard on our designs, but you have a very lengthy description to go with it).  You also designed a box and the coin is solid gold and not questionable with white gold like mine or S4VV4S.

With that in mind, if your design is chosen and needs to be modified, I will volunteer to assist with any photoshop/illustrator changes that you might need to have done.   Smiley

Good to see some sportsmanship in this thread! Wink

I had no idea who this woman was, but after a little reading and looking at her website I can tell you she isn't doing any favours for female gamers at all.  In fact, I really think she is going to have the opposite effect.  Do I think there is gender bias in video games?  Of course I do, but that really comes down to the lack of female developers out there.  Does the money going towards these videos do anything to fix that?  I really doubt it, it's designed to upset female viewers (making them feel victimized) and offers nothing constructive to them.  If you want to attract women into video games, why not show them clips of games that would appeal to them, instead of horrific acts of violence towards women?  She could instead put that money towards helping women get involved.  That's more constructive I think.

I notice the games she picks are very specific genres that are supposed to be violent and cater to a certain audience.  They are not representitive of video games as a whole. Her one example of a non-violent game (well relatively... I guess stomping on heads is sort of violent ;P), Mario was very weak... and offensive towards Princess Peach.  Yes, she plays the damsel-in-distress, but that doesn't make her "useless" and if she had played the Mario series, she would know that you can play as her in quite a few of the titles.  You are encouraged to play as her on certain levels as she has her special floating ability.

What does Anita expect her end goal to be? Censorship of these games? As an artist I feel this would be the most deplorable option.  This is not going to help women gamers at all, it will only garner resentment.  There are seriously a lot more options out there that she fails to bring up.

I can think of a lot of examples of popular games where there are strong female leads/characters, the Metroid series, Final Fantasy series(also has a lot of effeminite male characters), Tales of Xillia/Symphonia, Tomb Raider, Chrono Cross & Trigger, ...Balloon kid... XD.  Right now I've been playing Civ V with my husband and they have lots of female leaders you can choose from which is pretty cool.

So I guess my main point is, I would not donate any Bitcoin to this cause and you probably shouldn't either.  Anita fully admits that she doesn't like video games, so it's kinda difficult to take her seriously on this topic.  Spend that money on a video game that deserves it, not some crummy made videos. I will be voting for # 9 by campycoin. Worldtreasurefinders made a very good case for this design and I tend to agree with him.  I enjoy the designs simplicity & lack of fluff.  Often, the most exquisite things in life are are ruined by adding complexity.  This design makes the link to luxury by association of gold bars and also would be unique to your company (uniqueness seemed to be an important criteria to the contest).  I don't think any of your competitors have done something like this.  With the simplicity, you shouldn't have any issues getting it minted either. Also... on a nerdy note it makes me think of bars of latinum from Star Trek. The real "precious" part is the latinum(bitcoin in our case;P) located inside of the bar. That's just me being goofy though! Tongue

Like many others, I really enjoyed Mr. Bau's design and it was tough not to pick it.  I liked his concept of the bitcoin symbol being created out of multiple gears working together to maintain the network (all pieces working together for a common goal).  At least that's how I interpretated it.  I thought it flowed together quite well. Ultimately, I was  worried about the design losing too much detail in the minting process and so opted for campy's less is more theme.  I also saw more of a connection to luxury with campy's design.

If I may, I'd like to make a few suggestions to Coinographic if they intend to do more design competitions as I see a lot of drama here.  I would completely take voting out of the equation.  I think it's great getting the community involved with your design, but you don't really need voting to do that.  Secondly, when you're deciding on the top five designs, really take your time to pick them.  At least sleep on it, having fresh eyes is always helpful.  I don't think a scale from 1 - 10 is a good enough evaluation either.  Write down specifically what you do or don't like about the concepts.  If you don't already, have a designer help you with this process.  Once you have your top 5, post the reasons for choosing the winners. If people understand why you made your choices, they'll be less likely to think you just picked at random.  You can then ask the community for feedback on the top 5 designs, but your company ultimately chooses the final design. This way you'll avoid all this, "I vote for #so&so", without any relevant feedback as to why they feel that way. I imagine you'd prefer quality, not quantity.

Lastly, I'd like to thank Coinographic for putting on this competition despite the hiccups.  I had a lot of fun participating. Thanks! Smiley

Very cool designs so far!  I would like to enter my submission as well.  With all the merchant adoption happening this year, I thought it would be appropriate to do a design that commemorates merchants, naming the coin, "Year of the Merchant".

The front of the coin features a young merchant peddling her wares. The series of dots and dashes around the inner edge are actually morse code, spelling out "Vires in Numeris".

The back hologram continues the merchant theme by featuring a merchant's stall with the public key. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Smiley

Not buying that you had never heard of Monopoly before. Far too many similarities.  there is also hundreds if not thousands of different types of monopoly, you had to have known.

I think maybe I didn't word that quite right.  I wasn't claiming to have thought of the concept of Monopoly... the game was invented well before I was born! XD  I was specifically referring to Mariopoly.  I had not seen this version in stores before.  Some friends of mine had talked about making up their own versions of Monopoly and this is what I came up with a while ago.

Ah, my bad.  With the clarification I see what you are saying now. monopoly is such an interesting concept as a game.  As i mentioned in a previous post. I play it often. It can be played with so many different strategies, and no game seems to play out the same as the last.

personally, I love the game, but I've also been playing it since I was a kid so I may be biased.

I do like the looks of your version, looks like you put a lot of work into it.

No worries. Smiley I quite enjoy it too and agree it gets fun with the strategy of trading/playing politics. If you're only playing with two people it becomes boring really fast though.  This happened to my husband and I when we were stuck in a small town for a weekend with no internet access & rainy weather.  All we had available for games was Possumopoly (The Red Green Show version of the game).  Was fun at first, but got old really fast. lol

You would still need to create the models to print (say, with a program like blender) or download them from somewhere, but yeah, 3d printing would be ideal for this sort of thing, and far easier to use on the long run. As for the rules, they seem quite appropriate to the theme. Wink

I don't have any experience with 3-d modeling software, so I should probably work on learning that. Smiley Out of curiousity, are there 3-d scanners available as well?  Or are those pretty pricy?  Either way, I can't afford it, but would be a nice toy for down the road. Tongue

I'm under the impression that there are some affordable 3d scanners out there, but I haven't really looked into it yet to be honest. On the other hand, you have plenty of models you can download from the net, in sites like thingiverse, for example:

Mario and Bowser - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:338542
Mario figurine stand - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:231246
Yoshi - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:211601
Mario - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27678

http://thingiverse-production.s3.amazonaws.com/renders/1c/20/37/cf/19/Mario_Posed_-_UPSAMPLED_preview_featured.jpg

I haven't checked all the models, but they seem to be fairly high quality, and should be printer ready. Have fun. Smiley

Thanks for the links to the models, they certainly would work very well. Are different colours available in 3-d printing?  Or would I have to paint them afterwards?

Sorry but monopoly type of game is really boring, you should try the game bang!, its really fun.

I admit that Monopoly isn't the most intense board game, but I find it to be very inclusive (it's a happy medium between something like Axis & Allies and Candyland).  It's a simple game to decide on in a large group of friends with varying interests.  Anyhoo, it was my hope that the twists would make it more fun to play, or as others have said you can turn it into a drinking game.  Anytime someone passes go, you take a shot.  That would get kinda dangerous really quickly though! Wink

So that is your work?
This is really impressive. It is nice that you share that.
Design is really great. I like it a lot.
Have you tried to sell boardgames?
That is just question, cause I think that you are very, very good at that.

Yes, it's my work, although character designs belong to Nintendo obviously. Smiley

There are a lot of reasons I won't be marketing this in the future so you won't be able to buy it.  If you really would like to play it, I have all the pdfs in the zipped file that I linked to in OP. They're print ready. You're more than welcome to download them and print yourself a copy for your enjoyment.

Why not have a tournament with your friends. Make it interesting, and tell them to put up bitcoins per game. "Winner takes all"

Instead of using $ as on your notes, make it Satoshis.  Grin

You could fund this with faucet payments, if they do not have BTC yet, just create wallets for them.

Good work.

That actually sounds like a lot of fun to do.  Smiley  I love betting on games (do this a lot in Boggle of all games... lol). I'd really like to do something like this, but I've had a hard enough time convincing my husband that bitcoin isn't a scam.  I've offered to send him some bits to play with, but he's really not interested. Maybe he'll warm up to the idea in the future. As for friends, I think I'd just end up seeing a glazed look in their eyes.

Great idea! I love boardgames. Hope you can invent more games and sets.
 I'm trying not to advertise, but you should probably try some alt-coins that oriented to start-ups|crowdfunding or business oriented. Not only rely on donations but try to make something bigger. There are some dying cryptos with friendly communities (like Globe) or something still promising - like dolphincoin or swarm... I just mean you have a little chance to be an early adopter and significant player with alternative cryptocoins, not the mainstream bitcoin. but it's always good to accept bitcoin. Digital gold standart ).

Thanks! I really would like to make an original board game when I get the time. As it is now, I have a bad habit of starting projects that only get half finished, so I'm trying to finish those up first.  I'll try to take a look into the alt-coins as you suggest, though I'm not really concerned about being an early adopter. Ideally I would just like to do some side-work for some coin.

awesome boardgame lol.

I love yoshi!  Tongue

Yes he's one of my favs too. =)  Him & Koopa Troopa.
