Re: Beware of WEX.nz - account suspended without any reason.

Hi there,

I've had a similar issue, I tried to access my account after not using btc-e for a few years. They ask for drivers id and address confirmation, then 20 or so days later, ask for a passport and high res photo of you holding the passport. They will not communicate with you in any way, other than to ask for further identification documents. Kind of a scary place to be sending so much personal info.

At best it seems like they want to discourage you from claiming your funds, at worst they're collecting your info and selling it. I haven't heard of anyone getting their account access back after verification, is there anyone out there?

I think the issue that people (such as myself) are having with BTC-E is that not only is their reason for suspending peoples accounts a bit strange (so you've not used it for several years, so what?) but that communication with their support team is so unprofessional that undermines any confidence in their business.

I don't want to send high res photos of my passport, and me holding a passport to a company whose identity/location I'm unaware of, who don't reply to my emails promptly (eg within a week) if at all. At best they seem wildly out of their depth, unable to cope with the scale of their business and customer support, and at worst fraudulent.

Thanks for the reply! That makes sense from a pragmatic point of view, and I agree with the sentiment but its a pretty damning indictment of BTC-e and their reliability / trustworthiness in my opinion. From what I've seen from other posters, they seem to be freezing peoples accounts without any reasonable recourse for the users to have them unfrozen. I imagine they're making a nice profit from suspending the accounts of users who haven't been active for a while.

It feels like BTC-e will be the next MT Gox.

Re: [SCAM][UNSOLVED] BTC-E.COM REFUSING TO UNLOCK MY ACCOUNT (thousands of dollars)

Hi there,

I'm in a similar situation, trying to unlock my btc-e account after a few years of inactivity. I bought a few litecoins and then left them on the exchange. After a frustrating and slow email exchange with BTC-e, they now no longer reply to my emails. I've no idea where to go with this. I've no idea why they'd lock my account like this when all I've done is not use their exchange for a while. They asked me to send them high res scans of my passport, but not only does that sound shady (I don't think I ever sent them copies of my passport to verify against in the first place??) but I've seen on other threads that this doesn't actually get you anywhere anyway.

I'm still using the same email address, I just don't understand their behaviour, is this just a case of me being scammed? Its only a small amount of coins, but the principle is bothering me. If a major exchange is doing this, then it really makes me think twice about the future of crypto currency.

Any advice or details of similar situations would be great, thank you in advance for your help!

Are BTC-E a trustworthy site?

Hi there,

I bought a few litecoins several years ago using btc-e, and then left them on the exchange for a few years. Recently I've tried to get access to my account to retrieve them, and I've found my account is suspended. Contacting BTC-E has been a difficult process, they take at least a week to reply to my emails, and have asked me to send high res copies of my passport, as well as photos of me holding my passport amongst other things.

So far I've held off sending these documents, mainly because it seems strange that they'd require them when the only reason they've suspended my account is lack of use?? I'm still using the same email, which should surely suffice? I don't think I ever sent them a scan of my passport in the first place to register my account, so how would sending them a new one help them to identify me?

I've also read other threads on here as well as reddit that BTC_e still won't unlock your account even if you provide these documents. Has anyone ever had positive experiences recently with having their accounts unlocked by BTC-e?

Thanks in advance for your replies,
