Good luck everyone on future endeavors -- may we all have better luck than this one (thanks again for screwing everyone, Yifu).

Don't forget to leave fair trust feedback for Steamboat after this mess. Although I do wish there had been more communication throughout the ordeal, in the end I feel the refund was fair and he made good on his promises. Thanks again SB.

Hell yeah, just left my feedback on his trust score. Wish I could give him more , like +10 or something!  Cheesy

The total must be some portion of the assembly fee if the conversion rate published (~118 IIRC).  At that conversion, I calculate a $36.11 return for assembly + testing per unit.  Is that what everyone else is seeing?

Yes, this sounds right. Steamboat says it would be 25% of the full amount as that is all he has left.

Assembly refunds:

Very little of the funds received remain to process refund requests. We understand our announcement of a 25% refund of assembly costs, and 100% of the shipping and hosting fees played a large part in our customer’s decision to request a refund.

My notes from looong ago show:
$35 parts per board
$98.5 full assembly labor
======
$133.5 full assembly per board, at the quoted refund rate of btc@$126.61 = 1.05441908 BTC full assembly per board

Found the best summary of the promised refund from SB:

haha, u think he will refund your BTC back ? dream on, he will refund u in btc yes, but at the value u paid than, for example, if u paid 1 BTC for 100$, now u will get 0.15 BTC back ... u will ask where is the rest ? in his pocktes Wink

Hey Rammy2k2, you must have missed Steamboat's current status update.
He is going to give you your BTC back at the locked value of $126.61 BTC. He is not basing how much he will give you back at current BTC value of $900. So if you paid 1 BTC for 100$ (in your case) he will give back .789 BTC.

The unit cost and payment were priced in USD. This was necessary as while we would like the vendors we work with to accept BTC, that time has not yet come. As such, the refunds will be processed based on the USD price of the units, and remitted in BTC. While we are not responsible for fluctuations in the exchange rate, we have chosen to lock the rate to that of Sept. 11th, the day we announced we would be accepting assembly refund requests, in order to attempt to help ease the BTC losses of our customers. The exchange rate will be $126.61 per BTC, based on the price history of Coinbase.

I will start a list in a new topic here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=424576.0

I purchased assembly for 16 units.

I agree, this is getting a little out of hand. This is a bit unprofessional for the delay in not even a status update on these refunds.
I payed for Full Assembly Service + Parts Heatsinks, etc & Standard Shipping for 16 units.
I have PM'd my transaction information & details to you trilogy456

Thank you dearly for starting the list, trilogy456!   Smiley

Actually, this seems very helpful to me. To know that he is working on refunds that take quite a long time to handle due to the complexity really helps ease my mind to know that he is still there... and fish! I've been waiting for a cash withdrawal from MtGox for about 3 months now because they have to manually process everyone's withdrawals due to a bank back log. And i'm still waiting for that. So, things aren't as easy as they may seem. There are a number of things that must be done for refunds such as calculating how much to refund (based on the ~$120 per BTC conversion), and what exactly was sent to him from each and every person and for what did they purchase exactly that is or is not to be refunded; and he has to do this thru looking up transaction id's in the liquidsynergydesigns website, and there are likely many other things that I can't even think of that could be involved with further complicating the refund process.

...In other words, try running your own business, you may be saying "Hey, I'm gonna do this and that and this and that, because I know what is the right thing to do cause I've seen what wrong people like Steamboat have done, and that ridiculous store down the street doesn't know how to run their franchise either!! MEAHH!!" and then once you're placed in that position, you realize you can't really do what you thought because things that you couldn't even imagine beforehand arise--i.e. this is also why most people don't have the balls to open up their own businesses because they feel they must know exactly how everything must work out completely for the business to work. But, you can't predict or know everything that may happen. You just have to go with what you can do with what you got, and tackle situations as they come.

Thats not going to happen as the only option he has is to mine with them.  Although at 5g thats not really gonna do much.  Current calculators are showing its $1.70 a month or 0.0021 BTC a day.

Lets take bets, our refund or BFL's monarch shipping, which is first?

I bet you...    .000135 BTC that our refunds will come first!!!   Cheesy

I would have preferred something honest like this

"Hey guys, after all is said and done... due to the delays of avalon chips and the paid assembly workers, facility, etc... Here are the options available:

1) Full Refund of chips at today's BTC with NO Refunds of Hosting/Assembly/Shipping as these were spent on the above due to the delays.

2) Ship your completed miners when the chips arrive.

I know this is not optimal, but at here is an honest/open communication" Date: September 11, 2013, 10:11:14 AM

I quite like the last update email that pacifies us with news our hosted miners are happily hashing away.  But no subsequent emails telling us how we actually get our mined BTC.  It's like "yeah guys I have all your ASIC's hashing away.... crickets....oh you were actually expecting the money from them??"

I received an email from steamboat on the 14th dec listing the payment details for my 5 hosted miners. I have received payments for 5th nov to 13th dec so far to the original address that I paid from. I was in batch 6 and would have preferred a refund but the payout so far was 0.65 btc. a bit to go yet to make back the original investment. The group buy was a gamble from the outset and I would have been prepared to lose the lot but I do believe SB has tried to make the best of the situation for everyone.

Im wondering if it might be better for those of us who have requested a refund to actually get our miner built.  This way we can hopefully mine with it and attempt to sell it for USD.

Steamboats delivered on the miners, just not on the refunds for assembly/hosting/etc.

With the miners you are getting ~.08 BTC per month for each klondike. It will be .06 BTC per klondike next month. Thats $45-$55 USD per month gradually decreasing on top of the time spent on tweaking/monitoring/repairing whatever happens.
I would rather go with the refund in BTC at the locked value of ~$125 per BTC that Steamboat mentioned in his latest post.

I.e. Not including your chips being refunded (which by all means go ahead and get those refunded too).  For the ~$50 per klondike refund on the fully assembled option =

$50/$125 =  .40 BTC per Klondike ( a value right now of ~$300 if you plan on cashing it out),

And .40 BTC is a ton per klondike considering Bitcoin WILL very likely make bitcoineers into millionaires if held on to for the years to come:

Article:
Lee is adamant that, in the long run, the price will continue to increase “until it hits the price range of a globally-adopted asset”. He added:

“With simple math and using some logic, you can quickly compute that globally adopted asset price. You would calculate and compare the circulation value, against the average holding times the number of people using bitcoins.”

Lee sees the value increasing as more and more people become interested in digital currency, likening interest in bitcoin to interest in the Internet back in the early days.

“In the mid-1990s, the technical folks were the early adopters and the first to recognize the benefits. Then, over time and with more press coverage, the mainstream joined the party,” he explained.

Unlike the Internet, the adoption and popularity of digital currency can be directly tracked and measured, using the price of bitcoin.

It's not that clear since we actually paid in BTC.

When I bought assembly, testing and hosting, it was very clear that I was paying an amount in US dollars in the form of BTC. Why are we even bothering to discuss this? I would still like a refund, no matter what form it takes.

We are discussing this because if you payed, in an amount in US dollars in the form of 22.17 BTC, upon failure a couple of seconds later, you are to receive your refund exactly in 22.17 BTC.---not in 2.34 BTC because the value of BTC changed within those couple of seconds. (It doesn't even matter if it was seconds, hours, days, or even months) The whole point is that you must legally receive, exactly what you traded.

If you trade a shotgun to someone for a laptop, and he is still yet to find, and build this laptop. And he fails to find it, he must return the entire shotgun to you;not 1/7th of the shotgun because the value of it increased in relation to the laptop.
