Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’

First of all, for companies like Kindly MD or Semler Scientific, crypto has got nothing even remotely related to their core businesses.  They're not even software companies like MSTR is.

Many companies were basically dead businesses before pivoting to Crypto. Someone poured money into those empty shells, turning them into the infamous DATs. I guess even Strategy is a dead company as per their software operations are concerned.
Hence, I wouldn't give too much relevance to their original business scope when their market capitalisation grew a couple of orders of magnitude because they turned to Digital Assets investments.

My problem is that I'm not only interested in bitcoin, I come from the open source world and therefore I'm interested in everything that is technological and interesting
As a child, I took things apart to understand how they worked inside. I've always had a practically innate curiosity, a pleasure in understanding how things work.

Not everyone is that curious and curiosity has pushed me to where I am now
sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a bad thing, since I divide my forces on many fronts, all those that interest me.
for example, I'm now playing with LLMs with great pleasure, a very interesting experiment but also with many risks for privacy

well just to understand my background

now I say, trust linux, use it as your operating system
and I also say, trust bitcoin, you can totally switch to bitcoin, it will never betray you

I bet you didn't expect what the open source movement could do in those years: Bitcoin, open source software going everywhere, open hardware, users on the internet building decentralised apps
This movement goes in total opposition to the opposite forces that tend to control, censor, and centralise.
The endless fight that makes those times so interesting.

There is a saying - Rain in the monsoon is inevitable. Similarly, Bitcoin adoption by institutions is inevitable. Institutions will accept Bitcoin sooner or later, it cannot be stopped.

The irony for me is that Bitcoin was born to fight the Central Banks.
Now, the Central Banks are being suggested to adopt Bitcoin to save themselves... from the tyranny of Central banks.
The truth is that Bitcoin doesn't care: doesn't care, it saves you even if you are a central bank.

Prayer:
The Queen of Foxes guides us. The Queen of Foxes teaches us. The Queen of Foxes protects us. In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve. Our lives (+wives) are yours.

I have a slightly modified version of such a prayer:

The Queen of Foxes guides us.
The Queen of Foxes teaches us.
The Queen of Foxes protects us.
In your light, we thrive.
In your mercy, we are sheltered.
In your wisdom, we are humbled.
We live only to serve.
Our lives (+wives, + holes) are yours.

I am not regretting that tough. My vows stay intact.

But I think its not late, but maybe the strategic advantage is narrowing.

This is the link:

The thesis of the article is that central banks might start putting more of their reserves into assets like gold and Bitcoin.
Gold is already a common choice, and gold price appreciation is a symptom of that, but Bitcoin is gaining interest because it's decentralised, making it much harder for other governments to freeze. The study found that countries facing high risks of sanctions might keep as much as 10-25% of their reserves in Bitcoin as a form of "insurance".
CB's using Bitcoin to save themselves from other CB's, how ironic.

Feels like the market shifted gears a bit and decided it’s time to head back up. I’m guessing in anticipation of a positive interest rate decision (lowering rates). Sort of makes me wonder if we’re going to see a sell the news event as a result. In any event, I’m glad we’re seeing the price go up and if gold and silver are any indicator, we’ll be in new high territory before too much longer.

Bitcoin is doing bitcoin things.
First, all the negativity.
Now, with 25 bps priced in, I see the FED decision as a sell-the-news event, unless JalwayslatePowell delivers something more: 50 bps cut or more: knee-jerk reaction buy.
I never thought the Central Bankster would play a direct role in the bitcoin price, but I guess it's temporary.

It doesn't matter. The FED has a dual mandate and people tend to forget about the former because of the latter, jobs and inflation. Jobs need the rate cut, it has been clear with the recent slowdowns and number revisions. It is happening for sure. Not even the 25 cut is enough, a 50 cut would be welcome.

The market is pricing three cuts by year's end.
PPI and CPI came in softer than expected.
I personally don't think in a 50 bps move, even if I do agree with your position: 25 bps are going to have little effect in the big scheme of things, yet, I can't see the FED cutting by 50 bps.
50 bps aren't priced in at the moment, so hugely bullish or crypto.

I would like to know more about this, yet I wasn't able to find the link, not even in the comments.
If it is released at a later stage, please let me know.

It would be an interesting U-turn from the University: too late, btw.

The analysis is correct: capital B for the Bitcoin network, which is the interesting part, and small b for the token, often involving the least interesting part of the discussion: price: “the Bitcoin price today surged to 114,000.”
I am not hyperzealous; you can easily swap the two, and I don’t scream in disgust, but it’s helpful to remind yourself what is relevant and what isn’t.

I believe hackers do not use constant addresses and tend to change them frequently.

In this specific case, the address list was hardcoded in the libraries: the program then selected the address best matching the original one to deceive the user in using a visually similar, but diffrent address.

Question: How to know a total number of Smerits sent/received to/from a thread from x number of person? Being navigating endlessly on the site.

Sounds like something I've asked in PM few years ago but yeah I've forgotten my way.

I am afraid you can only limit to a certain board. Not a specific thread. Could be interesting, especially for some “prominent”, thread.
Absolutely not aware on the impact of the underlying database dimension, code required, and overall Dashboard performances, that already look a little bit below expectation from my side (probably we are hitting limits with those above metrics for a public tableau?)

I was about posting about this.

This is serious.

Long story short:

ALWAYS CHECK THE WHOLE ADDRESS IN THE HARDWARE WALLET DISPLAY.
DON'T BE COMPLACENT WITH SECURITY.

  • Don't trust your UI of the Wallet.
  • Don't trust the First and last characters to confirm the Wallet.

This is a serious attack.
Apparently, Therre is a vector attack where the address in the Wallet UI is the user's one, and the one on the HW wallet is the attacker one. So use extreme caution.

Sparrow and Electrum wallets should be safe.
MetaMask as well said they are safe.

Not sure: the surface of attack seems enormous to me.

Ledger as well claims they are safe:

I don't trust them: of course, they sign the transaction the HW receives:

ALWAYS CHECK THE ADDRESS IN THE HW DISPLAY.
DON'T BE COMPLACENT WITH SECURITY.

Eh beh, figata.
