Re: YaY! I just found 1.btc in my old wallet.dat file now how do I get it out?

So anyone able to help me figure this out its on an old legacy wallet from a wallet.dat file of mine and I did encrypt it but can most likely hash the password I put I have a good idea on what it may be but if you know how I can bypass this I will give whoever 10k reward its been so long since i messed with this stuff an I was way smater back then.

https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/addresses/btc/1ApiCgLSysQFeF7V2MFTEHiRsep7AR8Pyx right here is the wallet I got from a dump on receiving addresses on the .dat file for proof

Do you remember anything about the password that was used? Length, special symbols, randomly generated or not, etc.
I successfully recovered an old wallet of mine using hashcat, but it does have a bit of a learning curve and needs a good GPU setup.

Could it be one of those?

Bithumb (Founded in 2014) – One of the largest exchanges in South Korea, known for high trading volumes and supporting multiple cryptocurrencies.

Upbit (Launched in 2017) – Backed by Kakao, a major South Korean tech company, Upbit quickly became a dominant exchange in the country.

Coinone (Founded in 2014) – A well-known exchange in South Korea, particularly for its security measures and fiat-to-crypto trading options.

Korbit (Founded in 2013) – One of the earliest cryptocurrency exchanges in South Korea, offering KRW (Korean Won) trading pairs.

GOPAX (Launched in 2017) – A lesser-known but growing exchange that focused on security and compliance with local regulations

Hanbitco – A smaller exchange, but known for strong security and compliance.

ProBit – Launched in 2018, it grew in popularity for listing many altcoins.

They are saying that sending this dust transaction will resolve the problem caused by the "gap limit" (they are saying there has been a gap on the receiving address that I have), which may have affected my ability to see my funds. Once the transaction is confirmed, it will trigger an update in my wallet, rectifying the issue.

This is the official Blockchain support, and I reached out to two separate reps from two separate emails and received the same instructions.

If this is a gap limit issue, on Bluewallet, you could try the following and see if the missing address shows up:

My Wallet -> ... -> Show Addresses -> [Change]

Justin Bons' prediction on long-term security of BTC
by

Just wondering, does this make any sense?

https://twitter.com/Justin_Bons/status/1810357305390616839

Quote

1/38) BTC's security model is broken

It has to double in price every 4 years for a century or sustain extremely high fees!

Just to maintain the present level of security...

Which is impossible, as it would exceed global GDP within decades

Therefore, BTC security is doomed!

2/38) Each halvening exponentially lowers the security budget; until it is gone!

These halvenings continue after exceeding global GDP for atleast 70 years before running out completely

If you understand exponentials & economics, you should know that this is entirely impossible!

3/38) Fees will also never reach sustained extremes due to the ratcheting effect of the fee market

Paying hundreds of dollars for a single TX is not realistic in a competitive free market

When fees spike, users leave, all due to the unnecessary addition of the block size limit!

4/38) This all means that BTC's long-term security is unsustainable without extremely high TX fees in the future!

The security of BTC will inevitably continue to decrease until it becomes profitable to attack

I predict this will happen in 4-12 years from now! (1-3 halvenings)

5/38) Hashrate does not equal security; bitcoiners like @saylor do not understand PoW

This chart of miner revenue proves that BTC's security is actually lower now than it was 3 years ago!

Re: BTC funds dissapeared from my Electrum Wallet
by

I believe I have swept the private keys somehow. Wasn't I supposed to use the original wallet keys of the actual wallet from which I have initiated the sweep?

So basically if I remember right this might be a very possible scenario.

I had the funds in some wallet -> transferred to this new wallet which was created from scratch. Then I have saved the seed somewhere. Then I believe I have use the SWEEP on this wallet and pasted some private keys. I'm not sure which private keys or how did I do it. So what can I do in this situation?

This is starting to make sense now...

And yes I believe I have exported those keys. That being said how can I access that wallet where the funds went after sweeping private keys?

You say you "have saved the seed somewhere".

So can you just try this: file -> new/restore -> standard wallet -> i already have a seed -> type your seed

Can you give me your contact information, or you can PM me via Telegram: https://t.me/MrIces910 I really need your help guiding me. I tried as you said but it still doesn't work and it seems that according to the results your Wallet_type and mine are different.
Code:
Wallet Type: btcrpass.WalletElectrum2
-snip-
All possible passwords (as specified in your tokenlist or passwordlist) have been checked and none are correct for this wallet.
It appears to be a bug in BTCRecover.

I successfully reproduced the issue by creating a wallet with the same set-up in Electrum v4.3.4 mainnet (and other 4.x versions)
It shows the same wallet type "btcrpass.WalletElectrum2" and failed to find the password.
Upon fully encrypting the wallet file, password recovery works.

I used 3rdIteration's fork, both the latest master branch and the last release version behave the same.
Wallet file from Electrum v3.3.8 works regardless of the level of encryption used.

On the other note: I don't use Telegram, if there's someone contacted you claiming that he's me, it's a scammer.
As o_e_l_e_o said, you'd better keep the conversation public so everyone can participate.

Interesting - Could you confirm what version of Electrum you have used for this test?
v4.3.4 - latest.
But I found out that the wallet type: "WalletElectrumLooseKey" indicates that it's an "imported" wallet
which only consist of private keys since it's the type of wallet that I've tested in that reply.

Same issue with hashcat, it seems. This type of secrets-only encryption appears not to be properly supported.

It works:
I tried it with a test wallet which is not encrypted but has a password: 12345
(BTCRecover referred to it as "WalletElectrumLooseKey")

Interesting - Could you confirm what version of Electrum you have used for this test?

My wallet is a standard unencrypted file, I created it and haven't used it for a long time so I completely lost my password and seed. Recently my partner got confused and paid into this BTC wallet of mine. So can someone help me find my password and 0.5BTC in the my wallet? I will pay 30% to anyone who helps me find my password.

Could you confirm what version of electrum created the wallet file?

If the backup file is all you have, I *may* still be able to help with recovery.
I was successful with 2 similar cases recently, where the owners also forgot their
password and seed and only had the wallet file left.

I can't delete it.🤣 just asked a stupid question, then realized the answer in 20 second.
What is the decent computing power though? What kind of hardware?

A good common setup would be 2 to 4 RTX A5000s - The more the better, obviously.
Keep in mind that successful guaranteed is not though.
If the password was randomly generated by a password manager, chances of recovery are practically zero.

im not extract the hash, this hash is in the file that i can open or its another hash, and other question how i can open this backup file but i cant open a wallet.dat file with an editor, this menas that the wallet.dat is encrypted and the backup its not

This can be because earlier electrum versions only encrypted the seed and private keys by default, not the transaction history and addresses.

Just to clarify, have you been able to extract the hash? Under Windows, it can be produced by
running electrum2john as follows (python must be installed first):

python.exe electrum2john.py C:\path_to_backup_file

Once you have the hash, feel free to DM or email it to me.

Adding a link to the electrum2john script, so you extract and share a hash of your lost password without putting your coins at risk. (Just DM me if you need help setting it up and running it)

Electrum wallet rescue
by
flatfly
on 10/02/2023, 18:44:39 UTC

Do you have an old password-protected Electrum wallet but can't access it anymore? I may be able to help.

As a cybersecurity professional with strong Electrum expertise (*), I am fortunate to have
the right skillset as well as sufficient computing power to perform critical data recovery jobs.
I've had some success in helping people retrieve coins that were locked in old wallets, which is
why I've decided to start an Electrum-specific wallet rescue topic.

(*) Some of you may remember me as one of the earliest maintainers of Electrum builds for Windows
(mostly in 2012-2013). I've been busy with other projects after that, but have never lost interest in Bitcoin.

Pricing:

The cost will be 15% of the recovered funds, only in case of a successful recovery. ZERO cost otherwise.
By contrast, most recovery services charge 20% and have months-long backlogs.

How to proceed:

Before I can start working on a case, I will need some initial information that will help with the search.
If you have a case you would like me to work on, please respond to this topic or DM me so we can have a detailed chat.

Notes:
- The wallet must be your own. I will not work on a wallet with unknown ownership.

Good luck!  Persistence is key.

It was also a multi-year search to recover some of my old wallets - then I had to brute force a password I had managed to completely forget...
Wasn't easy, but thankfully I succeeded in the end.

⭐ Merited by ETFbitcoin (3)
I have been on a quest for the past 2 years to find some old wallets I used back in 2012 and up.  I lost interest in the whole BTC stuff in 2015 and now realize my wallet(s) may have quite a bit of BTC sitting idle.  Problem is i've replaced hard drives over the years and have overwritten a lot of stuff, etc.   I have 26 old drives in a shoebox but there are no typical c:/User/me/AppData/Roaming/Electrum/...  type of paths which would make my life easy.

Is there a string I can look for that would tell me when I've found my electrum wallet?  I want to see if any of them are still viable/in-one-piece.  Or any string that would put me "close" to my wallet where I can sift through the data on the drive to see if I can find it?

Thanks

There's no single answer to that, but for Electrum 1.x wallet formats (2011->2015), searching for the following pattern would be effective:

'seed_version': 4

Get FreeWallet desktop version and explore it..
Lots of volume, people find them by viewing available dispensers, I consider current market rate as lowest price dispenser sell (give 1), you can also do it on wallet.counterwallet.io , atleast their is an option for creating dispensers there but I have not used it for dispensers..

FreeWallet works great

Thanks a lot, I will do some testing.
BTW, do you know what happens if a dispenser shows as available, but gets emptied right before you send some BTC to it?  Can the BTC potentially be lost?

As it has become really difficult to trade XCP in the last few years (it's no longer listed on any reputable exchanges), and I'm still a strong believer, contact me if you have some XCP you would like to cash out (to BTC or USDT). After agreeing on the terms, trades are completed within 12-24 hours!

It’s pretty easy to buy/sell using dispensers on FreeWallet or whatever dex wallet you choose..

Or I could sell you some xcp.. PM me how much you want..

Not familiar with dispensers!  Any good resources on what they are and how to use them?

2 questions:
 Do they have sufficient volume?
 Does Counterwallet support them too?

I will do some research...
