I asked this in the TG too - any plans for utility with the NFTs since holders can get rewards or something later?

The websites are still live, the chains still work, the coins are mined and traded. But all social was nuked and the team disappeared like Satoshi. Last word was we'd have update in q1 2021 about Russian crypto regulation. What do you think about Grimm and Defis XGM guys? Are they really dead or do they have a heartbeat?

Re: How to invest in Crypto wisely and strategically
by
mammothine
on 19/05/2018, 12:12:05 UTC

The fact that you are investing in crypto at all indicates you have a stomach for risk. If you do not, you should not be investing here, as every coin has the potential to go to zero faster than traditional asset markets. However, the flipside is that risk can often lead to outsized gains, so really, really do your research, follow your gut, divide your portfolio in a sensible way, and watch it regularly (or constantly).

Also: common sense advice for any investor and trader, but never be so attached to any asset that it keeps you from trading out of positions that are failing or have news that will negatively affect the long-term viability of your holding. Good luck!

Re: Micropayments vs subscription fees
by
mammothine

Interesting question. In your example, no, Netflix would be subscription only. But that is mainly because there are already other options to 'micro pay', mainly, buying a single movie or TV episode using a different service.

However, I can imagine (and wish it were possible) to pay for a single article paywalled on a news site to which I don't subscribe (nor ever have any intention to subscribe).

There is literally nothing I wouldn't sell for bitcoin or any major alt, especially privacy coins. House, check, car, check, books, electronics, etc., etc. crypto is as good as or better than cash to me.

Re: Bigger Than the Internet
by
mammothine
on 24/04/2018, 23:25:51 UTC
Bigger than Skype, Hotmail? Sure, Bitcoin is a revolution in the world of money, but bigger than the Internet? I think that's an overstatement, because Bitcoin is part of the Internet, and it would be nearly impossible to operate without it, because it needs a globally connected network to keep nodes in sync. Last year Blockstream has launched a satellite that allows people to use Bitcoin even without the Internet, but we're still far from operating independently from the Internet, so until it will be possible, Bitcoin will not be bigger than the Internet.

I think by 'bigger' than the internet he means it will change society more profoundly than the internet. It will change how we bank, how we work - it will continue to mint millionaires, shift power, open up possibilities that were not there before. I agree.

Re: Crypto currency in a card?

Interesting project. But according to site:

[BUTLER is NOT a PAYMENT CARD, BUTLER keeps or needs no personal data or any other type of private information]

Amazing if true, but I'm wondering how this is possible...in the USA you can't get a reloadable debit card without very serious KYC. How is the team going to get around that with this??

Re: Is Verge XVG a Good Investment in 2018? Verge "Partners" w/ Pornhub w/ XVG :O
by
mammothine
on 21/04/2018, 18:14:21 UTC
The partnership is actually Mindgeek, which runs Pornhub (and casino), Brazzers, and many others. Pornhub alone gets like 150 million viewers per day and accounts for more traffic and EYEBALLS than Netflix.

Add to that the TokenPay debit card, ringCT release, RSK development, and the likelihood that the Mindgeek legitimizes the currency to the point of attracting new partnerships .... yes, you would be wise to begin accumulating at these lows and think long-term.

Re: Samsung has now entered the cryptocurrency world
by

Samsung is one of the largest if not the largest company in the world. They do more than tech, and have their hands in every industry you can think of (insurance, finance, advertising, etc. etc.). Selling miners is likely just the very tip of the iceberg in terms of their embrace of crypto.

LYNX is really interesting. Pure raspberry pi mining, dedicated devs and community, unique vision. They launched in the middle of the crash, so still under the radar. Worth a flyer if you like long-term unknowns - you can scoop up a million for a few bucks.

Beyond the usual suspects, there’s Metal (MTL) which seems about ready to go. Neat project with legit backers and team. Worth a look if you need a good swing trade idea.

Long-term, ETH, NANO, XVG, maybe VTC and LTC. None of these are disappearing anytime soon, all for different reasons.

I’d take half of it and launch my own project. The other half would be split almost evenly between btc, eth, nano, xvg, and mining rigs. Maybe some goes into my kid’s college fund. Otherwise, all the way fucking in!

Re: Merit & new rank requirements

There are many members who sold merits right now but i dont suggest you cheat the system by buying or trading merit because what comes after that will make you regret it all the time, the same regret as why you did not buy bitcoin long time ago.
For those abusers, punishments like permanent bans and red tags waiting for them. Never should try abusing any system of the forum, including merit system.

Fair enough. I’m actually more interested in giving it away than acquiring. Chicken meet egg.

But you can not give away merits if you dont acquire any sMerits from people. Do you really get the basic of this merit system? Please read again the OP.

Oh I get it. Thanks.

Re: New technologies and businesses
by
mammothine
on 19/04/2018, 14:34:33 UTC

Here comes the Bitcoin, redefining how a transaction of money should look like:
- secure
- without fees

Which businesses do you think are in danger because of this new technology?

Not just cryptocurrency, but smart contracts change everything. Pretty much all of western civilization. Any money transfer business if it doesn't play, will be fucked. The CC industry, unless it supports crypto, will be fucked. Any industry that is digital and centralized and handles personal data, could be fucked. Government could potentially be fucked. Lawyers will need to adapt or, you guessed it, fucked. Insurance. Healthcare. Education. All can be improved via this tech, and for the betterment of society, hopefully.

Re: Will There Be a "Digital Run" on the Banks?
by
mammothine
on 19/04/2018, 00:20:20 UTC

I love the idea of a run on the banks and all of us in crypto being 'right' but I'm not so sure this is coming. They are generally very smart (if a bit, mmmm, self-confident) people and have made crypto hard to own and acquire. As crypto gets bigger in 2018, I would expect grosser attempts at limiting crypto for average people. They are, in a sense, at war - on the other hand if they embrace it wholeheartedly, you know it can't be good for anyone either.

But you lay out a very persuasive argument. I think we'll see banks fail within our lifetime - whether people go to bitcoin or any other crypto is the question. i do think most people are pretty woke to bank shenanigans, but we still have to make a better case for adoption, not to mention more unity as a community.
