Re: What does the Bilderberg Group think of Bitcoin and Crypto's?

they operate slow and methodical over generations, not decades.

I like this logic.  If nothing they move slow and methodically.  The goal is always to move your position forward, even if it takes great time.

Most of the math for bitcoin and even some basic ideas of this concept have been floating around for 20 years.

Someone or a group figured out that with "proof of work" systems one could provide a vehicle for "transfer of value" far cheaper then Visa can, and all transparent (public ledger) at the same time.

I'd like to think that, "Someone or a group," are an unwashed citizen soldier(s) looking out for our (the masses) best interest.  The stories we know now about our good friend Satoshi fallow this theme.

but, deep down I still wonder...

Love it.  "Ohhh, it's ok that I don't know what I'm doing.  It's not my money, I'm just responsible for it".  Cheesy

I am learning this stuff right now.

cool it on the kid.  He's doing a job and reaching out to get up to speed.  I would question the management not him, and hope they have some serious QA in place before this code goes prime time.

note to big money btc build out projects (pay attention winklevi)... don't let your developers post questions on this site without being trained, and even then their posts can't be associated with the project (biz/social media 101)

multiple forms of asymmetric crypto for key generation

More likely is that the NSA has some mathematical breakthrough that affects one or more public-key algorithms. There are a lot of mathematical tricks involved in public-key cryptanalysis, and absolutely no theory that provides any limits on how powerful those tricks can be.

Breakthroughs in factoring have occurred regularly over the past several decades, allowing us to break ever-larger public keys. Much of the public-key cryptography we use today involves elliptic curves, something that is even more ripe for mathematical breakthroughs. It is not unreasonable to assume that the NSA has some techniques in this area that we in the academic world do not. Certainly the fact that the NSA is pushing elliptic-curve cryptography is some indication that it can break them more easily.

If we think that's the case, the fix is easy: increase the key lengths.

Assuming the hypothetical NSA breakthroughs don't totally break public-cryptography -- and that's a very reasonable assumption -- it's pretty easy to stay a few steps ahead of the NSA by using ever-longer keys. We're already trying to phase out 1024-bit RSA keys in favor of 2048-bit keys. Perhaps we need to jump even further ahead and consider 3072-bit keys. And maybe we should be even more paranoid about elliptic curves and use key lengths above 500 bits.[1]

I was thinking about this while rolling 16 sided hex dice to generate some 256-bit randomness and wondered if my dice were loaded.

What if their is a "breakthrough" in hacking elliptical-curve cryptography?  I don't mean to sound dire or drab, and I haven't spent enough time on this sub-forum to know if this has been rehashed a million times (if so sage this to hell).  I did search a little and couldn't find anything on multiple forms of key generation/use, which leads me to my question.

Is there a need for another form of asymmetric crypto that should be implemented into the base code for use as an alternative or backup in the future?

Is there a need for an extended key length beyond 256?  Maybe people using keys larger then 256 pay a little more in fees for their added content size.

Just some questions seeking some intelligent answers.  Thanks for your time.

From blockchain.com html source

"Blockchain.com Bitcoin Wallet Coming Soon"

Seems like maybe an attempt at html5 wallet for ios, and maybe a relaunch of their android wallet to feature sync.  Who knows... maybe Nick spent some time in Cupertino and signed some behind the scenes contract to integrate with apples future cash system and in return be a blessed app in the store.

hmmm.

They are behind most of the large positive stories we saw last year in the press, and they are currently speaking directly to government officials at very high levels to get bitcoin legitimized. All of this makes them a fortune, sure, but they came from an uber-rich family so it is no big surprise that they will be very successful. Believe it or not, as douchey as they may seem sometimes, they are doing more than almost any other person(s) to help bitcoin.

You all should really be thanking them, honestly, and you know you should. You don't have to like them in order to thank them and show due respect. It makes all of us on this forum look bad when we attack people that are trying to help us as much as possible.

I agree.

Not only are they a positive force for Bitcoin in the media but if their ETF gets approved the price of Bitcoin will explode.

+1

they got all four of their reputational balls on the line.  I give them two thumbs up for their entrepreneurial spirit!

I just imagine some auction hall with a slick auctioneer selling off chunks of 10k btc.   Bidding starts at five million do I have five and half we do and do we have 6 hummblah humblahh blah blah blah blah SOLD for seven and a half million.

Like this --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxLxdgae-dY but with bitcoins and crappy looking rich neck beards (no classy cowboy hats)... the auctioneer is the same.

Re: Would you store all your wealth in BTC?

on 22/12/2013, 05:33:04 UTC
wow... the delusion is astounding.  You fools should be taking 20% of profits every year to improve your life.  You move forward and have less regret if it fails.  Life is not a binary game of all or nothing.  Learn to balance and move forward in steps.

The value system of a dirty neck beard in his parents basement doesn't go well with instant wealth.  People binge, and they they end up where they started.

Take some profits now, and improve yourself:

buy some nice fucking clothes so you don't look like a dirty slob
buy a usd 7000 car (not one fucking cent more), you don't need a Porsche or a BMW, but you shouldn't be driving your 1998 pontiac anymore either
buy a nice shaving kit

life is never an all or nothing game.  move forward in increments.

I know I can modify the config file to force outbound connections, and give priority to inbound connections, but how could a group collectively get together to leverage this feature in a manner that could bring more value to the system?  Do I need to spend more time on IRC?

Should have seen it coming with a 66% similar name

wow... best laugh all day!

The part that bothers me is that we've also found out that all the Microsoft encryption suite was weekend almost 12 years ago as well, and nobody in the general public seems to care much... oh well, I've got muh 6 pack in the fridge and the Packers are playing tomorrow!

don't forget kids the NSA, "helped," linux 8 years ago with some security software contributions.  I'm sure there was nothing naughty done to the random number generator ;-)

Enter in your total BTC amount in to this search and then post your rank! Let's see how we all compare. Smiley

http://btc.ondn.net/search

make sure you've left plenty of room for the web server logs.  It would be interesting to trace back geolocated ip address to people who claim to have a nice stash of btc.

I told your little web script I had 1MM of them... It told me I was ranked number 1!

Also could you expand on what you mean by the blockchain was restarted?

The first time you write a program, maybe, "hello world," it never works the first time you run it... it needs some tweaking!  Same thing with building a server/client based protocol.  The first few times it runs, it isn't right.  So you change it, and it works better, until it doesn't.  Then you change it again and start it back up... eventually it works good enough that it can be set sailed into the public... to be improved more.

Ask more detailed questions if you want more detailed answers.

I do, however, agree that we should refer to the Bitcoin Foundation as the American Bitcoin Foundation, since that's what it is.

That's not even meant to be snarky or ill-meaning, it's just... pretty clear that they are all-American.

this +10

We need other foundations from other nations!  We should have direction from other perspectives.

I mined early on as well.  Was generating 50btc every other day on a macbook pro in late 2009, and expanded with a dedicated video card setup a little too late.  I've seen all the ups and downs.  I have also spent many coins in the past to acquire things for my life that helped it improve.  I still have some, and I carry no regrets about decisions of the past in selling (I'm talking about selling lots at $3 each).  When I started they where worth $0.15 each.

There was an article that a wheel chair bound comp sci professor wrote that was published in maybe Wired?!?! <-- help would be nice

He went on about working with Santoshi early on and taking part in the startup of the block chain (it was restarted quite a few times because of bugs etc.), he contributed code and was there when it went it took off.  He said he's left all his early coins in trust to his kids.  He said that he never met Santoshi but communicated with him via email often.

I think the estimates for what he holds land around 40% of current and 15% of future total (or more).

Re: Blockchain scalability question

How can this scale if millions/billions of customers start using BTC from their wallets stored on their smartphones?
Wouldn't the network get overwhelmed if every wallet/node had to be kept in sync?

it's been answered but to keep it simple

keeping up with the full blockchain 24/7 requires more battery/bandwidth then what is practical today for mobile devices (which many transactions now occur using).  3rd party systems/applications have risen up providing access to the block chain for these devices.

satoshi never envisioned every system playing in the bitcoin marketplace to have a full blockchain feed

It's hard to say if this site is fake or not.... I'm too lazy to to do the google research for you, but if you can't find any history of them on the web, then take you money other places.

good luck!
